Hi
I am looking for a photo from a surfing magazine late 70s

Its at Waimea Bay with two guys taking off and Eddie Aikua is inside them hand out taking off body surfing

It was on a mates wall cut out from a magazine. Any help where i could search would be appreciated as in my memory the wave was huge.

I'm out too, but if anyone finds it then post it here. Wouldn't mind seeing a Waimea bodywomp.

GreenCT...might wanna rule out some red herrings.

Bodysurfing Tips(1970's)
Bodysurfing was never even remotely alternative pre 2010
Bud Browne('60's Bodysurfer/Filmmaker) shot big wave bodysurfing in all films.
https://swelllinesmag.com/2015/05/26/bud-browne-a-body-surfer-bodysurfin...

Surf Mag Photographers (1970's)
Any surf photos were filmed thru homemade casings.
As today all / any alternate camera men were hired for Front Page Surf Mags
No film or time would be 'wasted' on even the best of bodysurfers.
Not too many Mag guys had the gear but also guts to hit the lineup (Merkel?)

Waimea Tips
Pre Leggie Waimea drop-ins meant inside surfers always (one arm bodysurfed)
Typically 3-5 boardriders with inner / outta bailing into prone bodysurfing or die.
Impossible to ID an inside prone boardrider let alone a random bodysurfer..
Example: Did Eddie typically bail onto face from his whitewater buried board?

Eddie Aikau died March 17 1978
*This rules out late '70's more mid '70's
Eddie would most likely be on patrol on 1970's Biggest Days.
Meaning Eddie had least time than any to free surf Waimea.
Eddie's typical Waimea bodysurf session was to rescue boardriders

1970's Waimea Rescue would see Eddie swim with Float Strap.
Tiding drowning soul away from rocks via Rip to Chopper lift.
With luck or maybe not bodysurf a wave ashore with float arm.
(Exhausting just thinking about it !)

Knowing what we know!
One must discount Surfboard bail or Float-strap assist return wave.
Even if he was bodysurfing...Why shoot it for free for Board Mag?
More likely the cam was on said "Famous Boardriders"(Start there!)
Precious little bodysurfing photos or Lifeguard photos exist from 1970's.

Consider if Photo is intentful bodysurfing Action then it is pure Gold.
note Waimea only breaks a week of a rare year...should narrow timeline.

Glenn Whitford (Redwings)
tbb can offer up 1990's version of Waimea bodysurfer with Boardrider.

Nigel Butler
2000's (Gold Coast Extreme Bodybasher) re: "Cheyne Horan Troupe."

Thanks for asking GreenCT ...as with crew tbb would luv to see rare photo.
ps: Maybe a City library has "Eddie would Go" biography for loan?
