Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 2nd September)

Best Days: Each morning from tomorrow until Wednesday

Recap

A bit of an improvement in conditions yesterday morning across the South West with a S/SE-SE breeze through the morning and solid 6ft surf at exposed breaks. Perth and Mandurah were around 2ft on the sets.

Today the swell was similar in size across all locations, but with an onshore wind moving in again across the South West, cleaner to the north.

This weekend and next week (Sep 3 - 9)

A new SW groundswell is currently filling in across all regions, and this should hold tomorrow morning to 6-8ft across the South West and 2ft or so in Perth.

Later in the afternoon our large strong W/SW groundswell from the central Indian Ocean is due to fill in, building to 8-10ft by dark, with the possibility of the odd bigger one. Perth should kick to 2-3ft late.

A drop from 8-10ft and 2-3ft is expected Sunday morning, while into the afternoon our reinforcing pulse of SW groundswell is due. This has already started to be generated by a vigorous polar front firing up to our south-west, generating a fetch of severe-gale to near storm-force W/NW winds.

8-10ft surf should persist across the South West Sunday afternoon and possibly even early Monday, easing through the afternoon and further Tuesday. Perth should ease from 2ft+ Monday morning.

Now, conditions are looking good over the coming days with a variable tending light offshore wind tomorrow across the South West (E/SE Perth), similar Sunday and Monday. Afternoon onshores are due across most coasts.

Tuesday will continue to see morning offshore winds, strengthening from the NW into the afternoon with an approaching cold front.

This approaching cold front won't be overly strong but will direct back to back fetches of W/SW gales up and into us.

The first front moving through Tuesday evening will generate a large stormy W/SW swell for Wednesday, with the secondary front moving through Wednesday evening.

Conditions will be poor with large 10-12ft waves in the South West Thursday, 3-4ft in Perth but with fresh onshore W'ly winds. Lighter winds may be seen Friday, but more on this in Monday's update. Have a great weekend!
