4,000 Waves Later, Blake Claims World Record
His feet bloody and ulcered, ear infected, frame ten kilos lighter, last night Blakey Johnston rode his final wave for July.
Only lasted ten seconds yet it's the arithmetic that's impressive. It was his 4,097th wave of the month, caught over 253 sessions at Sydney's URBNSURF wavepool.
Not sure of how many barrels, turns, or tubs of Vaso he's churned through but the stats will come out.
"Everyone deserves to feel awesome," said Blake, "and I truly believe we find a better version of ourselves when we dream big, dig deep and bring a crew along for the ride."

Fkn awesome.
Bravo!
That's an incredible achievement - unbelievable.
Have a rest mate!
Well done Blake - you the bomb!
Geez I am exhausted thinking about it.
Jeez Blakey your setting the bar high.....not sure if ive ridden 4000 waves in my entire life.....but where too from here bro.........?????????????????????????
How much would that have cost!! $100 a session would be about $25k wouldn't it?
25k is just a drop in the ocea…..urm….pool
It's all sponsored, wave pool is trying to drum up business in winter
$2385 for Winter Warrior pass. Surf every session of every day for a month.
Think it was just over a grand for the month if you're a member so about $5 per session for this bloke. Good value if you have nothing else to do but surf in freezing water all day everyday.
Surely URBN surf sponnoed him for the sessions.
Imagine Blake and Ned Brockman in the same room…
And cliffy young
Not sure they'd be in the room for long.
Unless it was for a push up competition.
2 absolute mad-dogs.
haha, a 'sitting still in a room for charity' comp..?
(just amazing, blake! keep the fuck away from chlorine for a bit!)
Awesome work Blake. Champion stuff.
Very well done Blake . You are a man on a mission in life . Good work .
Living legend!
Absolute dream run
nuts
my personal record is about 1400 in a year around Hanalei bay.
wave pools dont count
File that under things that never happened.
exactly, stay home, in never happened
any interest in a mystery indo trip for a fortnight next month? same price as a telos/ments trip, but apparently it's better, umm.. just cos, even though the guide has talked up the social element of surfing, oh, and there's no details, food or accomms, or prior testimonials, but the guide is bona fide!! ..and he says:
"NO-ONE SURFING.. haha.. hahaha.. bwahahah.. BWAHahahahaha......"
so he does.. I'm sure it'll be awesome.
(what is it with middle initial people.. 'looook, it's meeeee')
Unbelievable effort by Blake, I would have folded after 2-3 consecutive sessions with that water temp, supposedly 12 degrees, what a legend.
Meanwhile our neighbors are good friends with 3 mad Scottish brothers paddling the pacific unsupported from Lima, Peru, to Sydney, Australia a 14000km journey. They are raising money for clean water projects in Madagascar and are a few more weeks away from completion, their insta is a good watch. You can check them out here & donate if inclined, incredible feat.

Definitely aimed for quantity over quality.
Think i'd rather half a dozen waves of a lifetime at some pumping indo break in a month than score keeping a few thousand pool waves that are all the same.
That sounds about as much fun as reciting times tables lol.
Whatever floats one's boat though i guess.
I had the pleasure of seeing Blakey at the pool (I didnt know who he was at the time), he rips!
