GYG Junior Surftag Titles This Weekend
Thursday 18th September 2025 – Manly, Sydney // Two hundred of the state’s best junior surfers will compete this weekend at South Curl Curl Beach with the GYG Junior Surftag kicking off on Saturday with the Under 14’s.
North Narrabeen Boardriders (NN) are the defending Champions in the Grommets Division after narrowly finish ahead of Queenscliff by less than one point in last years Final.
Sunday will see the Under 18’s battle it out with a record twenty teams entering the Junior Division including last year’s winners Freshwater Boardriders Inc (FBI). The win was the club’s first ever Surftag victory with sixteen-year-old Flynn O’Connor looking forward to competing against all the other teams.
“It’s always fun competing in tag team events and against all the other clubs,” O’Connor said. “We are not sure of our final team just yet, but everyone is super keen to back it up from last year”.
O’Connor’s older brother Lex and Northern Beaches Under 18 Champion Sully Tucker have been named in the Freshwater squad alongside Aussie Kelaher and Barney Hodgson.

SURFTAG SERIES Contest Director Steve Harrison is stoked with the level of surfing talent that’s coming through the junior ranks at club level, “There are so many kids’ ripping these days so it will be interesting to see which clubs make the finals”, Harrison said. “Last year’s win from Freshy was massive and so good to see a club that has never won before finish above some of the more fancied teams”.
With valuable ranking points on offer this weekend’s GYG Junior Surftag will play a major role in who takes out the overall series with the final two events the Titan Ford Women’s Surftag and Titan Ford Master’s Surftag scheduled to be held in October. North Steyne Boardriders are the current rankings leaders after a big win in the RJ Thomas Solicitor Men’s Surftag.
The 2025 SURFTAG SERIES will see up to five hundred surfers represent their local Boardriding Club in five Divisions: Men’s, Grommets, Juniors, Womens, and Masters with $30,000 in prize money and prizes on offer.
