Yellow Alert For WSL Final's Day
If you've been following Swellnet's rolling forecast, you'd be aware a new swell is due to strike Fiji tomorrow.
With its imminent arrival, the WSL has issued a Yellow Alert, meaning the event will probably (not definitely) start within 24 hours.
“The Yellow Alert is issued,” said Renato Hickel. “We’re very excited. In less than 24 hours, at 7:00 a.m. GMT+12, we will be making the final call for a possible 7:30 a.m. start here at Cloudbreak. The waves are already in the three-to five foot range with the swell building into the day and overnight. Hopefully in the six-foot range tomorrow morning, and still building throughout the day."
“We will have to deal with the winds the next couple of days. If we are not able to finish the entire event at Cloudbreak, Restaurants is an option to move there during the day, as well as finish the event in two days. That’s the plan, and exciting news for us, and a big swell is on its way.”

5.30 am start is very civilised.
perfect if you have work.. how long should it run?
Not sure B6- depends whether they wait a minute for swell to fill in and possible delay/postponement for onshore rotor winds.
A Spotter wave buoy in the Coral Sea helps us see if there's any difference between the modelled size and real time observations.
We could expect an over-performing swell if the wave heights out to sea are bigger than expected by Wave Watch III, but looking at the observations, wave heights have come in as expected. The tail/backside of the swell for Wednesday looks to be a little bigger than what the models had, so we could see early Wednesday still coming in at 6ft to possibly 8ft.
Most interestingly, the swell periods are coming in a touch under model forecasts which is a little concerning (purple line only peaking at 11.4s right now). The swell is still growing out in period but with it being so weak, this indicates the overall weak nature of the fetch.
Uh oh!! haha
That is a concerningly low period swell, particularly for this time of the year in Fiji. Is tomorrow the last day of the waiting period, or can they hold off till Weds?
Runs until September 4.
That second half of the swell looks to be the goods with the bulk of the energy.
Set your alarm Southern.
I'm gutted. Working. Probs gonna miss most of it with the exception of a sneaky glance at my phone.
As much as I'd like to see Jack win- I'm kinda hoping for a fairytale for Jordy.
Go Pickles!
Haha yep early start here @zen. Ahh buggered you have to work. Can always watch the replay and pretend it's live!
Yeah agreed, hoping for all the above.
Gut feeling has Jack and Caity tapping into the Fiji magic and making it happen but gonna be hard to get past the Pickle and Yago.
Really hope Pickles takes it out. Her freesurfing has looked next level on occasions.
go Caity and Molly ... go Jack and Jordy .... bye bye final 5 stupid format
Would love to see Jordy take it, but holy smokes Italo has looked on fire during the practice runs. It's a slog from nr 5 but.
If Caity gets serious, I reckon she's got it, but Pickles would be a very worthy champ.
Here's to this swell magically over performing. See you all tomorrow morning (day off!).
