South Australian Forecast (issued Monday 22nd September)

Best Days: Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Friday morning, Saturday, early Sunday

Recap

The South Coast offered fun clean waves both mornings over the weekend with Sunday providing the most size after a good increase in SW groundswell through Saturday afternoon.

The Mid saw good 1-1.5ft waves all day Saturday with the new swell, while Sunday was great again with tiny clean lines.

Today the South Coast was the pick with offshore winds and a dropping small swell best suited to Waits and Parsons. The Mid is tiny and bumpy with the extra north in the wind.

This week (Sep 23 - 26)

It'll be all about the South Coast over the coming days with small but fun amounts of swell and all day offshores tomorrow and good early winds Wednesday ahead of an onshore change into the afternoon.

A new long-range and very inconsistent W/SW groundswell is due tomorrow, generated in the Southern Indian Ocean and this should keep infrequent 2ft sets hitting Middleton with 3ft+ bombs at Waits and Parsons.

The Mid should see 1ft to occasionally 1.5ft sets but it will be really inconsistent. Fresh to strong but easing N/NE tending NE winds will favour most locations, while as the swell drops into Wednesday morning, a light N'ly is expected ahead of a fresh S/SW change around lunch.

Unfortunately winds will linger onshore from the S/SW to SW creating average conditions Thursday as a new long-range SW groundswell fills in. Friday will be the day to surf through with the SW groundswell due to peak across the region under light variable winds.

This swell is and will continue to be generated by a vigorous polar frontal progression that's currently south-west of WA, with a trailing front off the system pushing under the country towards Vicco while weakening over the coming days.

We should see some good size off this swell, peaking through Friday to 3-4ft across Middleton and 4-6ft at Waits and Parsons with 1-2ft sets on the Mid. Light variable breezes (tending locally offshore) should create clean conditions during the morning, with light onshores into the afternoon.

This weekend onwards (Sep 27 onwards)

The weekend will be another great one for the South Coast, but more so Saturday as the swell will become small under tricky and strong N/NW winds Sunday.

Friday's swell will ease steadily Saturday but early there should still be 3-4ft sets along the Middleton to Day St stretch with 5ft bombs at Waits and Parsons under N/NW tending variable winds. Get in early Sunday before the swell fades and winds strengthen too much.

Next week will start slow, but a largish SW groundswell is on the cards for Tuesday and Wednesday, generated by a vigorous polar front being steered up towards us from the south-west of WA. We'll look at this in more detail on Wednesday though.
