Recap

Our first spike of S'ly swell provided some fun waves yesterday, though the localised nature of the low and quick movement off to the east has resulted in minimal, easing surf today.

This week and weekend (Mar 4 - 7)

One down, and now the bigger and best to come.

We'll see the surf starting to build again on dark tomorrow ahead of larger and better aligned surf through Friday and more so Saturday/Sunday.

The polar front linked to the swell will strengthen south-west of the state this evening and project north-east and then north-northeast up into the Tasman Sea under the influence of the Long Wave Trough.

A strengthening fetch of strong to sub-gale-force SW winds will initially be generated early tomorrow, strengthening to gale-force and swinging S/SW Friday while projecting north through our southern swell window.

This initial SW fetch isn't favourable but we should see a late increase in small surf on dark tomorrow, while the bulk of S'ly groundswell energy is due to build through Friday.

Friday morning looks to come in around 3-5ft on the south swell magnets, much smaller inside southern corners, while a stronger late kick in S'ly groundswell is due to 4-6ft, likely peaking Saturday morning to 6ft+.

The swell will come in from a better angle on Saturday, from the fetch of gales projecting up to our south-east and this will see southern corners getting a better spread of size.

The swell will ease into Saturday afternoon, with Sunday seeing great easing surf out of the S/SE from 3-5ft.

Coming back to the local winds and NW tending W/SW winds are due tomorrow ahead of a late S/SW change, with Friday seeing W/SW tending strong S'ly winds.

Saturday will see SW tending fresh SE winds, with Sunday being best across northern corners under a W/NW tending N/NE breeze.

Monday will be clean though the swell will be on the way out. Longer term there's nothing significant on the cards so make the most of the coming southerly swell episode.
