Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

Recap

Flat surf across the Mid Coast while the South Coast offered clean small waves on the exposed beaches, best Saturday morning with the most size. Today a trough has brought an onshore change and our new W/SW swell has filled in to 1-1.5ft on the Mid Coast. We should see it kick to 2ft with the tide along with favourable winds.

Little waves this arvo

This week and weekend (Jan 10 - 15)

The coming days attention will be on the Mid Coast as we see some further and better W/SW energy moving in tomorrow, peaking into the afternoon.

Today's swell was generated by an initial fetch of strong W/SW winds, but a secondary system moving in on top of the active sea state generated by the first should produce a more consistent swell to 2ft with the odd bigger one likely on the favourable parts of the tide.

The South Coast should be around 3ft or so but with terrible conditions as today's S'ly winds shift SE in the morning (moderate to fresh) ahead of stronger S/SE winds into the afternoon.

Easing surf is due through Wednesday but infrequent 1-2ft sets should continue across the Mid Coast on the favourable parts of the tide before becoming tiny Thursday.

Local winds should become lighter and more variable across the South Coast on Wednesday morning and there should still be 3ft sets at Middleton, smaller and easing from 2ft+ Thursday. This is worth a surf, with Thursday also OK with lighter E/SE breezes.

Friday looks to offer variable winds that should be light out of the N/NE but with smaller, easing 2ft surf off Middleton.

As we move into Saturday the swell will bottom out and conditions should be clean in the morning before a trough brings a S/SW change by late morning.

There's no significant swell on the cards following the trough, just strong S'ly winds on Sunday and a weak, localised windswell across Middleton with linger S'ly winds into Tuesday.

We may see a fun mid-period SW swell for the middle of the week with lighter winds but check back here on Wednesday for a clearer idea.
