Fucken Karen freedom fighters give me the absolute shits. I want to get a haircut, I want to play golf, I want to go overseas. Me me me me.
These fuckers couldn't give a shit about the authoritarian nature of our government if it doesn't have a direct impact on them. Refugees locked up for 7 years? Could not give a fuck. Secret trials for whistle blowers? Could not give a fuck. Parliament suspended? Could not give a fuck. Being told to stay indoors to protect everyone's health and the Karen freedom fighters jump into action while completely ignoring the consequences of their wants. The US equivalent to our Karen freedom fighters are the second amendment gun nuts. I loathe these selfish fucks.

Scotty from marketing was out today spruiking a vaccine yet not made... Selling a vaccine not in existence, Similar to his "back in black" coffee mugs. Even more alarming is he wants this yet to be made vaccine MANDATORY.
Now, I'm all for a good vaccine... No problem there. But...... Are you going to physically hold me down and inject me with a rushed vaccine? Are you going to financially punish me if I refuse? Ban me from the city? Take my visa away? Freeze my assets?
What of Fundamental Christians? Doesn't this government champion "religious freedom"? Vaccines contain abortion material. Cells grown from abortions. Is he going to punish Catholics? Baptists?
As I said, I'm pro vaccine. But I'm not pro Fascism

Sheepdog, are there any churches that you know of that are against vaccines on that ground?
As I understand it, some (but not all) vaccines are produced using cell cultures that originated from abortion materials some decades ago. They don't produce any demand for ongoing abortions, and the abortion material in any dose would be measured in the nanograms. So as far as I'm aware most church organizations support vaccines
(weighing up those issues with the moral imperative to protect others). Interesting also that scomo speaks as a (what some would call) fundementalist Christian.
Though you do raise an important point re conscientious objection...
Maybe rather than being compulsory, there should be some societal penalty for those who refuse on grounds of conscience, e.g. having to quarantine whenever you travel etc?

If you want voluntary vaccination you have to accept that the community has a right to protect itself from infection by placing limits on the freedoms of those who choose not to be vaccinated. Once the vaccine starts to be widely available, for example, it is near certain that many countries will insist on it as a condition of entry. It may also be obligatory in certain professions such as health care workers. I don't think it needs to be mandatory to be effective but you know in the grand scheme of things it is hardly a major human rights abuse. If it is mandatory there will be exemptions for medical reasons....and why you wouldn't want it for any other reason, beyond pie eyed stupidity, is hard to imagine.

This is the rare case where i 100% agree with you.

BTW. In regard to your other post, no refugee has been locked up for 7 years, all are free to go at any time, all have turned down offers of resettlement in PNG or Cambodia, and no refugee on Manus or Nauru is locked up all have been free to come and go from centres at will for years, all even have the choice to live in the community, most on Nauru have chosen this option, those on Nauru can even apply to travel in the South Pacific region and those on Manus can also apply to travel within PNG.

But I'm guessing if you read the Guardian you probably think they are locked up behind barb wire fences, and get 7 hours of water boarding or something crazy.

Yep, the Oxford one, which has been showing promising results in the trials so far... which isn't to say its a sure thing.
I think the deal is that if there's no hiccups in the remaining trials, we'll get a license to manufacture the vaccine locally, and the government will cover the cost.

Scotty from Marketting at his bullshitting worst today. One minute he's saying there was a deal to purchase the vaccine formula for local manufacturing, the next minute the company says it's just a letter of intent.
So in other words, Scotty from marketing says to the Oxford researchers, if you create a vaccine that works, we want to buy the formula. To which the researchers replied well der, we are in the vaccine business and want to sell it.
There is still no vaccine. There is no timeline. There are no guarantees it will work. Theres no price and no fucking contract.
Our PM is a man of such little substance he holds press conference about absolutely nothing. Fix aged care you useless muppet and stop wasting time with meaningless announcements.

Pops, that's the deal according to Scumo. According to the Pharma company, they just signed a letter of intent to sell the formula if it's successful. A letter of intent is nothing. It basically says the Pharmaceutical company would sell their product if it's safe. I mean who didn't see that coming.
If the vaccine is successful, we still need to negotiate a price. Scumo's song and dance press conference today means the Australian Government will be walking into the negotiations wearing knee pads. The PM is an idiot. This press conference was just designed to distract people from his aged care fiasco.

Having some guarantee of supply of one* of the more promising vaccine candidates is nothing to sneeze at. But fully agree that we should have agreed on a price as part of this (you'd think there might be ongoing negotiations???).

Yeah ok Karen Boomer..... I don't have to accept any such thing, You are setting a dangerous precedent. Then all those that don't have the flu jab should have freedoms taken away too. 705 flu deaths in Australia in 2019.
Setting this precedent, we should all be chipped. It would make us safer. If people are lost bushwalking, we can find them immediately. Murderers, robber s can't hide. Those not chipped should lose their freedoms. Or be taxed more. I don't want MY TAXES spent on finding them when they could've been chipped..

In regard to the vaccine Scomo was talking about yesterday:

"The vaccine is currently in the third phase of trials and is being administered to thousands of people in the UK to see whether it's successful in eliminating the coronavirus. Early test results show it works"

BTW. He never said it would be mandatory :

"Speaking to 2GB Radio later yesterday, the Prime Minister said the government would put in place measures that would strongly encourage Aussies to get the jab.

"It's not going to be compulsory to have the vaccine," he said. "There are no mechanisms for compulsory...I mean, we can't hold someone down and make them take it."

"Nobody's going to force anybody to do anything as a compulsory measure, but we will certainly be encouraging people to take this up. There will be a lot of encouragement and measures to get [a] high rate of acceptance.

"What we want to achieve is as much vaccination as we possibly can, should the vaccine actually prove successful."

There are some who never get the point until it is on the end of a metaphorical stick in their guts. My reasons for suggesting that the word is no longer appropriate is that it is sexist. Many women, particularly younger ones, are extremely offended by its use. Most won't bother telling you. They will just consider you to be an objectionable, anachronistic prat and treat you accordingly. Your suggestion that my comments on your vocabulary are authoritarian is absurd. The right are always so sensitive to anything that suggests they should limit their objectionable behaviour. Probably has something to do with their toilet training.
