Currently approx 18,000,000 confirmed cases of Covid and 7 hundred odd thousand deaths over the past 6 months.
World [email protected] 7 BILLION.
Based on that we should expect a lockdown for the next say 25 years??!!!

I was listening to an Aussie Vs Kiwi rap battle on the radio a few years back. It was fairly even towards the end until one of the Kiwis boasted about being able to speak Maori while basically no white Australians can speak any Aboriginal language. The Aussie guy, quick as a flash said “Hey mate, I can speak Maori too: Whakapapa, Whakatane and FUCK you!” I had to take my hat off to the guy, he completely killed it. The Kiwi guy was speechless, there was nothing that could top that.

Another time when I was in Japan I was asked to speak some Maori. There was a stunned silence afterwards as they thought I’d been swearing. I was feeling Whakama (ashamed) haha.

"Whatever Indo,
It's a pretty meaningless stat in terms of covid 19 spread anyway, because Australian and NZ cities are very similar in terms of population density and structure.
It must really grate on you that in terms of Covid 19 response, progressive women leaders have performed so much better than uber nationalist male clowns like Trump, Bolsonaro, Bojo.
"Oh and BTW, Jacinta Price is a grifter. She represents nobody but herself, has very little support in the indigenous community, says crap that makes her the darling of right wing degenerates in the media, uses their platforms to increase her profile, and has her own for profit speaking tours. Fuck me, if that doesn't make her a grifter, nothing does."

Meaningless stat?

ha ha yeah right, it's the most meaningful stat you can have, more people higher risk of infection.(especially when you add in the fact higher pop equals higher international arrivals)

It's not a coincidence that Melb and Sydney are where the most outbreaks happen and hardest to control while smaller citys with lower pop are doing very good even if the density is the similar.

As for Jacinta Price only reason you see her as a Grifter is because she doesn't fit the view of how you think Indigenous people should think.

She doesn't have the support in indigenous communities that she should have because she basically says take responsibility for your actions, it's only you guys that can bring change, people naturally dont like that, they want easy answers and solutions, problem is there is no magic dust to sprinkle over things (although i guess money is seen as some as being just that)

Id honestly bet my house that ten even twenty fifty years from now unless a different approach is taken there will be virtually no change, maybe the date of Australia day will be charged or something trivial/symbolic.

Obviously to achieve change she needs support and to get the word out, she receives very little support from mainstream media or funding, so is basically forced to outlets like Sky news, if she had support from ABC, SBS and indigenous media i doubt she would bother too much with Sky news.

If i had magic dust, id make her PM, imagine that a right leaning indigenous women pm.

It’s a reasonable argument, on first look, that population density is a major factor in the spread of any virus. Surely that’s true.

But any quick review of which countries have done well and which have done poorly surely knocks it out of the water. Haven’t Taiwan and Hong Kong been at the very tip of those countries that have done well? Surely their population density blows even Sydney and Melbourne away. Vietnam did well too, some pretty dense populations there. NZ done wonderfully well. All the countries that have done best so far have shown early leadership and quick decision making that went hard.

Hong Kong and Taiwan have been credited for their success because they were prepared from earlier experiences with SARS1 and H1N1. Also, they didn’t believe what was coming out of China’s official statements and assumed it was much further along then what they were being told. Closed borders quickly, where they could.

Jacinda got good advice But also took the hard and early option. She closed borders before ScoMo. If she hadn’t done it so early I wonder how long before ScoMo would have taken the action he eventually did. She was a week or two ahead of him on every decision. While there is still debate about whether Australia could go for eradication, the majority of experts were either always supportive of that, or have come around. I don’t know how you could claim that it isn’t possible when NZ plus most of our states have achieved it, but it is being brought undone here by really poor governance, Dan Andrews with the quarantine debacle, Gladys with the Ruby Princess as the worst example of a number of boats that should have been stopped, and ScoMo and Dutton vacating the field on quarantining until they were forced to.

People were flying into Sydney until well into March and perhaps later and getting off planes and going home, with no advice to self isolate. Their move on that front was about a month behind “early”, way too late.

And aged care, what a fuck up, still is. The Federal government has complete jurisdiction there.

Also those Asian destinations that did well invoked that very Asian thing of cooperation and not thinking it was ok to go around places coughing and sneezing on people. Wear a mask if you’re out. Why was WHO and Oz authorities so behind the curve on that one? Waiting until absolute proof of their efficacy? That’s brain dead shit, you go for the moon shot if it’s cheap and easy and might have a real effect, but instead we got this anti risk management strategy that said there was no proof they had an effect. For crying out loud!

Australians are more blindly compliant or asleep on things they should be up in arms about, and now that we have something where a tiny personal cost will make a big difference, like wearing a mask, we have Karen from Bunnings and the Post Office, arguing nothing of importance to claim their right to spread disease during a pandemic.

So I think Vic locals glib assessment above holds a fair bit of water regarding Oz vs NZ.

I wish we were in NZs situation right now. And I was calling for us to go the NZ way back in March, which was about 7 years ago by my reckoning.

Hasn’t time been distorted since this all began.

I just cant see how Indonesia could every control things until there is a vaccine.

Bali governor a few weeks back was claiming Bali will open to tourist 11th Sep, seems Kandui resort is running with it now which i found real weird.

IMHO cant see it happening for a start Indo government have announced nothing and Bali governor has not real say on when borders open, not that it matters for us Aussies anyway, we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

@ Batfink Those Asian countries you mention have a totally different mentality within the culture & people and yes prepared by government.

Even here in Australia in the early days i remember going down Melbourne way to a few areas i saw no white fella wearing a mask not one, but went to Springvale and even then Chinese were wearing mask even when driving in a car alone, even when before Covid I'm sure you might have seen the odd Chinese/Korean./Japanese wearing a face mask thing.

The strange thing is with Asian culture for other SE Asian countries it's the complete opposite not sure why?

Yep Indo, and you’re right in pointing out about Asian cultures, they are much less homogenous than we silly whiteys think. But certainly many have a strong sense of community cooperation on not passing on disease by simple application of a mask.

Views from the says
“Currently approx 18,000,000 confirmed cases of Covid and 7 hundred odd thousand deaths over the past 6 months.
World [email protected] 7 BILLION.
Based on that we should expect a lockdown for the next say 25 years??!!!“

VFT, I’d be suggesting that we should consider what’s best for Australia, in Australia, to get back to more normal living, which cna happen with eradication only, NZ style.

In which case we could be back to living pretty normal lives from about October. Of course normal means that we wouldn’t be able to go on cruises or international flights, and everyone coming in would do at least two weeks quarantine, and why are we letting in so many non-residents anyway?

The rest of the world can do what they do, but looking at global numbers to assess what we should do just misses the point. What is the best chance for us to return to something like normal? Eradication! Every other option sees us going back to our current scenario, and if you think lockdown number two is boring, how will we go in lockdown number 5, or 8?

I don’t know why Morrison went the way he did. He was wrong not to try, and continues to be wrong not to try, and there will be much greater economic costs doing what we are doing rather than trying to eradicate it.

You asked in a previous post whether we think we can stop it. It isn’t about stopping the virus, it’s about stopping the spread. We are an island nation and have a chance to live relatively normal Karen friendly lives if we can just get some clarity and will from our leaders, the same ones who think the economy is more important than people’s lives, a false binary and he is still stuck on auto-pilot wanting to do the least damage to the economy. His approach is wrong, his goals are wrong and his problem solving is skewed.

But you might not get your Bali trip for 25 years, or more likely 2 or 3 after a vaccine is developed and done the rounds.

If someone can point to a post where Indo Dreaming has offered a solution, please do so, because all I can remember him doing is blaming everyone but his beloved Liberal Party heroes.
When Gladys and Scumo went for the "suppression" option, and demanded borders get reopened and social distancing rules be relaxed, they just gave up on the medical problem. They quit, They tapped out, They squibbed it.
Yes hotel quarantine was a farce in Victoria (largely due to the shit behaviour of guards, private contractors, and return travellers), but I'd rather have Dan Andrews implementing policies to solve a medical problem than have Scumo the quitter making the decisions down here.

Hmm.. A lot of conservatives here forget that covid was spread THOUGHOUT AUSTRALIA thanks to Sco mo and Gladys wth their ruby princess DISASTER. Even Indos graphs show that covid has NEVER been fully wiped out of NSW.
Now onto Victoria. Andrews chose to take a right wing cost cutting route - getting private security firms instead of paying more for army and police. BAAAAAD move.
A a labor leader, he should hang his head in shame going against his party's ideology. It kinda shows that labor aint Labor.
Continuing on right wing ideology (now backed by Labor)- the casualization of the Australian workforce, and the turning of shelter (housing) into a commodity..... With FOUR MILLION Australians now relying on casual wages to pay their mortgages or rent, they wait weekly, often daily for a phone call from the employer for their shifts. Melbourne has a MASSIVE casual workforce. And employers are often arseholes. If u say no to 2 or 3 shifts due to sickness, they simply wont phone u, and give the shift to someone else. So this pandemic is highlighting the tragic state of our work lifestyle, where right ring capitalism has taken us over the past 30 years. It doesn't matter if the government pays u the 2 weeks in quarantine. If you dont rock up to work, your job is gone. You then cant pay for your shelter. And with household debt at record levels, the dominos start to fall.
So yeah sure vent at Andrews for allowing the covid genie out of the bottle. Yell at Scomo for the disgraceful handling of PRIVATISED nursing homes in Victoria which are under federal jurisdiction. But remember that successive right wing bias governments heavily influenced by neo conservative anti union think tanks have created a societal petri dish perfect for virus just like this

To all those rusted on right wingers who refuse to look beyond blaming Dan Andrews for the Covid19 pandemic in Australia quarantining in all its forms is a Federal Government responsibility.

At a Federal Government level quarantining is a shared responsibility between (1.) Border Force, the Department of (2.) Health and (3.) the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Clearly there is a cross over on health matters BUT the primary responsibility rests at a Federal level.

Further, the Aged Care sector is a Federal Government responsibility. The Feds fund, monitor and regulate all aged care facilities.

Now, had Morrison close the borders early like Jacinda Ardern did and accept he was fully responsible for quarantining and send returning AU citizens to remote locations like Christmas Island then go into a total lockdown like NZ did life in Australia domestically would be pretty much normal now ..... but hey its all Andrews' fault, right?

If Dan Andrews hadn't made a mess of Victoria and Vic numbers were between NSW & QLD as you would expect based on population.

We would be all sitting back going fuck yeah killing it like we were the other month.

BTW. Even used the left's beloved Guardian as source for you all.

BTW. Notice with the graphs how the first wave aligns almost perfectly with population size of states major city's

These are in order of pop size, so you can compare.

1. Sydney
2. Melb
3. Brisbane
4. Perth
5. Adelaide
6. Canberra
7. Hobart
7. Darwin

But hey city population size isn't a factor, just like how the spike in Victoria aligned perfectly with protest, its just chance because "correlation does not imply causation" yep right.

Just had a scroll back to the start of april, when the NSW and FED coalition botched the ruby princess, spreading covid throughout Australia. Did Indo attack Gladys or Scomo? Nope..... In fact he was praising. The only dig he had was ANDREWS of course, for banning fishing at the time.

"@Sypkan

Thats not fair at all to both federal and state governments, they were warning and educating long ago about the virus and aspects like social distancing etc, but a large percentage of the population ignored these things, Bondi was the big example but the same was happening all around Australia.

Most people now are doing the right thing but people are still ignoring the government we can see it in coastal community's with people staying in their holiday houses and still out and about.

If this curve is flattening it's not because the public volunteered to do the things needed, it's because they were basically forced into it step by step by government and states..

IMHO both federal and state governments in general are doing a very god job, yeah 100% there is fuck ups, some big and stupid ones, and with hindsight they would do better, and there is things I'm pissed off about and dont agree with like ban on fishing in Victoria."

The only mention from indo on the ruby princess was about his parents... NOTHING about the botched situation, the deaths, the ruby princess passengers getting on planes and flying to perth, adelaide, melbourne etc - "My parents had a cruise ship holiday locked in up the Mekong starting in China just before this started :D

They love their cruise ship holidays, but I've got a feeling they wont be doing another now.

Imagine being one of those cruise liner companies, even when this clears up that industry is never going to recover, its always going to have a stigma ad fear attached to it now."

In fact, on the 5th of april, Indo was damn proud - "And our death rate on a word scale compared to infections is a very good ratio.
On a world scale other countries have been flying past us at a crazy rate on overall infections, Norway over took us today, Russia is next in line.
Actually feeling a little proud of our effort now"

I mean, we were only having spikes of 200....... "nteresting we did get another spike on Sunday only up to 200 but previous days were 90 & 140 bt not as high as days before that."

And on the 11th of april , Indo was stoked that we had dropped our world covid ranking from 20th to 26th!!!!!!. "Australia is falling fast down the world list of cases down to 26 this morning was about 20 or less a few days ago."
MATE WE'RE NOW 64TH!!!!!!!!!!!! You should be OVER THE MOON!!!!!

Yep and your point is?

As you can see we were all doing very well in the early days, something like this you are always going to have issues early as you find your feet 99% of countries have had similar issues, its completely new and unknown, bar countries that had dealt with Sars no country was ready for it, on a world scale we did amazing both federal level and state.

As you can see i was positive and proud and only whinged about not being able to fish like other states we're still able to do. (and if surfing had been banned and other states still able to surf, I'm sure many Vicco surfer would have been whinging)

The issue is not with the early days be it Scomo or Glady or Dan liberal or Labor, we had success with the first wave and got things under control, every state in Australia bar Victoria had things under control Dan was actually doing a decent job up until the BLM protest and the quarantine debacle.

Although interestingly i noticed in those graphs today even after the first wave Victoria didn't reduce numbers like other states did, we still had little bumps.

I don't have a theory on that.

BTW. Im expecting you were looking back at my post expecting to find some right wing anti lock down views or maybe conspiracy theory crap or something? to try to use against me now.

Sorry, not into it, happy to do my part and abide by lockdowns wear a mask ect even downloaded the app. (which you would have noticed although i supported it, i did say back then it seemed pointless if only recorded interactions up to 15 minutes or something silly instead of any interaction be it one second or one hour, because it only takes one second to spread the virus.

Oh come on zenagain. Blind Freddy could see aged care homes were a serious problem 6 months ago. The Federal Government had ample warning about the problem AND DID NOTHING.
This truly shit government has had 7 years to improve staffing standards at aged care homes but THEY DID NOTHING.
The profits of huge aged care businesses took priority over the health and dignity of the residents. The Liberal Party failed to admit the problem, and therefore didn't fix it. The residents and their relatives have paid a huge price for this government's shitful performance re aged care. AND NOBODY WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SHIT SHOW. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW CONSERVATIVES ROLL.

Zen,

It’s the federal govt responsibility.

They regulate, set the outcome standards for all residents including infection control, fund and monitor all aged care facilities.

It’s also the federal government via its funded accreditation agency that oversees the daily operations of aged care facilities.

The federal government should have foresaw the current Victorian crisis based on the early tragic aged care events in the UK, the US and here in NSW during the first wave.

Any and all blame for what is now happening in Victorian aged care facilities - staffing, PPE, infection control, deaths, EVERYTHING is down to Morrison.

It’s been a ticking time bomb waiting to explode for years. The federal government will want the current Royal Commission into Aged Care to never finish coz it will reveal to the world how complacent Morrison is.

Soooo, FFS stop blaming Andrews everyone, it’s Morrison’s responsibility FULL STOP.

Quite simply there wouldn't be a second outbreak if it wasn't for Dans incompetence

But off course as per usual the same people are trying to shift blame to Scomo.

What do you do in a time of crisis? Console and offer support? Suggest ways of managing mental health issues? No way! Grasp the opportunity to encourage division and apportion blame based on your existing prejudices. Great work Indo...but hey we are all glad you can still go surfing. It reduces the daily out pouring of your shit by what? 20% I reckon.

The hilarious thing is, the graph Indo Dreaming put up shows the virus was never illuminated from NSW.
A second wave was, and still is, inevitable in NSW because the NSW government reopened bars, cafes, clubs, and reduce distancing rules. A second wave was, and still is, inevitable in NSW because people in Sydney are not, and have never been, doing enough social distancing.
The fact a second wave happened in Victoria before NSW gives clowns like Indo Dreaming a political enemy to target. The problem is, when things turn to shit in NSW indo-dreaming and the fellow RW nutters will still be blaming Andrews rather than SOLVING THE FUCKING PROBLEM.

I can foresee each state falling [as Vicco has] like dominos. Probably to differing degrees.
Here in south Oz people have become slack with social distancing and hand hygiene
Weird shit happens such as my wife's work having SD rules in their office then having a social do at a pub with 63 people attending. Not against the rules but lacking in common sense none the less.

"Morrison was born in Sydney and studied economic geography at the University of New South Wales. He worked as director of the New Zealand Office of Tourism and Sport from 1998 to 2000 and was managing director of Tourism Australia from 2004 to 2006. Morrison was also state director of the New South Wales Liberal Party from 2000 to 2004. He was later elected to the House of Representatives at the 2007 election, representing the Division of Cook in New South Wales."

This bloke is no genius and certainly not a person to be admired.
He's a God bothering happy clapping dunce who has clearly kissed the right arses en-route to his current self believing position.
He has done nothing to resolve the Covid shit show. He should drop dead!

The vaccine news is looking pretty good. 12-18 months is the prediction. Given that it will take a while to get it to everyone that means the pandemic should be pretty much over by early 2022.
