Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 6th January)

Best Days: South swell magnets for the keen dawn Friday

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Fading E/SE swell tomorrow
  • New S'ly groundswell for the afternoon tomorrow but with SE winds, easing Fri with a morning W/NW breeze

Recap

Fun waves in southern corners yesterday with 2-3ft of E/NE swell, while today we've got cleaner conditions across a greater variety of locations with the swell out of the E/SE and still 2-3ft.

Make the most of the swell today as it'll be all but gone tomorrow.

This week and weekend (Jan 7 - 10)

The trough linked to the fun run of E/NE tending E/SE swell has moved out of our swell window, with the swell due to fade from this afternoon with 1-2ft leftovers tomorrow morning.

A surface trough moving up past us isn't due to generate any real size with a weak S/SE windswell to 2ft or so tomorrow along with fresh S/SW tending SE winds.

Our new S'ly groundswell for the afternoon is still on track, but anywhere picking up size will be straight onshore. Friday looks a touch better with easing 2ft to possibly 3ft sets on the south swell magnets at dawn (tiny elsewhere) with a light W/NW offshore wind ahead of NE sea breezes.

This is probably worth trying to make the most of as the rest of the period looks void of any major swell generating systems.

A tiny pulse of N/NE windswell is possible early next week, but besides that the outlook is slow. Check back here Friday for any changes.
