Trestles Pro
June 9th -17th

The waiting period for Trestles has begun, with a lay day being called on Day One. The long-range south-west groundswell discussed in our early forecast started to fill in, but when it came time to make a call the swell was still too small and inconsistent to run heats

The next few days will see the swell peak in size and offer marginally better competition potential. Tomorrow and Wednesday (local time) the swell will offer good quality 4 foot sets at Trestles, though inconsistency may still present a problem.

Then, a reinforcing pulse out of the south-southwest will maintain 3 foot to occasionally 4 foot sets for Thursday and Friday.

In the early forecast we touched on a follow up southerly groundswell due this weekend, from a Southern Ocean gyre that developed south of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) the weekend just gone. The strength and orientation of this swell-generating system came in much better than forecasts, so we can expect a  larger and more consistent southerly swell into this weekend across southern California.

Looking at the gyre more closely: An expansive fetch of south-west gales (with stronger embedded core winds) has produced a great long-period southerly groundswell that’s due to arrive Saturday, building strongly all day before peaking Sunday to 4-6 feet - see image below.

Local winds look great both mornings with offshore winds ahead of sea breezes.

Easing surf from 3-5 feet is then due Monday, getting smaller again towards the end of the waiting period.

With this upgrade in swell for the weekend, the organisers now have more flexibility in the call for the coming days. If the current long-range groundswell comes in a touch slow or undersized they've got the luxury of passing it over and waiting till the weekend.

On a final note, two tropical storms have formed off the Mexican coast; they being tropical storms Cosme and Hurricane Barbara. Cosme is positioned best in Calfironia’s swell window and is expected to reach hurricane strength today, but at the moment the swell potential looks minimal and will be masked under the long-range groundswell energy.

Interesting, looking a gift horse if it wasn't foggy today.
Very quick turn around from newy
Some jet lag mixed with turbine noise and morning sea state sickness.
Winds look iffy , expect an air show.
Combo swell not ideal .
