Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 11th January)

Best Days: Wednesday, Thursday morning in the South West

Recap

Clean good waves with a building SW groundswell Saturday across the South West to the 6ft range, easing through Sunday with bumpier conditions under a moderate onshore wind.

Perth was tiny Saturday and offered the odd wave Sunday with a light onshore breeze.

Today a fresh pulse of SW groundswell has filled in, building from 3-5ft in the South West and 0.5-1ft around Perth with variable winds. The swell has continued to kick in the South West towards the 6ft range with light to moderate onshores, while Perth is still tiny.

This week (Jan 12 – 15)

Today's pulse of swell was generated by a tight mid-latitude low moving in from the west over the weekend, and while the secondary low was forecast to be weaker on Friday, it's now been upgraded again.

This low is currently deepening south-west of us, generating a fetch of SW gales which will continue to be aimed into the South West as it moves east this evening, out of our swell window by tomorrow afternoon.

A moderate to large and consistent SW groundswell should be generated by this low, building later tomorrow and peaking Wednesday to 6-8ft across exposed breaks in Margs, easing steadily while swinging S/SW in direction through the afternoon.

Perth should see small 1-2ft waves Wednesday, fading into the afternoon.

Conditions will be poor tomorrow with a fresh S/SW breeze, with Wednesday morning looking best in semi-protected locations with a fresh SE'ly, E/SE around Perth.

Thursday will be cleaner at exposed breaks with an E/NE offshore but small fading S/SW swell from 3-4ft at swell magnets, tiny in Perth. Friday will be even smaller.

This weekend onwards (Jan 16 onwards)

Into the weekend some moderate sized SW groundswell is due, ahead of some slightly stronger surf Wednesday with persistent SE winds. There's nothing too large showing on the cards beyond that, but more on this Wednesday.
