There is a trough in the Coral Sea with an associated cloud band which is expected to play a role in focussing Tradewinds which form up later this week on the back of a SE surge.
The coming days look generally smaller with the South Coast offering the best of it, with a good new swell for the weekend.
Compared to earlier model runs the trough and E’ly dip aren’t expected to form any major swell generating low pressure through the Coral Sea or South Pacific. The broad E’ly pattern which sets up in the Coral Sea gets disrupted next week by cold fronts but longer term looks to set up again as we move to the end of the month.
Easing surf over the coming days so make the most of today. Next week becomes more active again with a possible mix of moderate to large swells.
There are lots of moderate to large pulses of swell due this week and a half.
E’ly winds in the Coral Sea should still see surf develop across CQ from Wed, with rideable surf through to the end of the week.
From mid next week we should see action return to the south as fronts push into the Tasman.
The outlook remains slow with small to tiny west swells due until later next week.
A new strong low formed in the Indian will change wind patterns and produce a new swell.
Model divergence remains pronounced for the outcomes from this, with GFS still suggesting some kind of trough/easterly dip and enhanced E’ly swells. The European model has a more subdued outlook with a weaker high and trade-wind band remaining further north in line with seasonal norms.
