South Australian Forecast (issued Wednesday 2nd September)

Best Days: Saturday and Sunday morning down South, Monday protected spots down South

Recap

Small clean fun waves yesterday best suited to the exposed beaches down South, while today the surf was even smaller but clean enough at the swell magnets. The Mid's remained tiny and average.

This week and weekend (Sep 3 – 6)

The coming couple days are lay days in competition terms with a strong but easing onshore wind and building S'ly windswell tomorrow, easing back from a small weak 2ft+ or so Friday with variable winds through the morning.

The weekend is looking much better.

Our mix of long-range and inconsistent SW groundswell and shorter-range SW swell for Saturday with favourable winds is still on track, although the short-range swell has been upgraded a touch.

This is due to the frontal system swinging in from under WA being a touch stronger. The mix of swells should peak at 3ft across Middleton on the sets with 4-5ft waves at Waits and Parsons and 1ft sets on the Mid.

Conditions look great for most of the day with N/NE tending variable breezes and then Sunday will be smaller but clean through the morning with a stiffer offshore ahead of a mid-late afternoon W/SW change.

Next week onwards (Sep 7 onwards)

Our stronger long-range SW groundswell for early next week is still on track, with a vigorous polar low due to fire up in the Heard Island region this evening, aiming a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds through our far swell window.

A strong but infrequent SW groundswell should be generated, with the forerunners arriving through Sunday but with no size, while a peak is due through Monday to 3-4ft at Middleton and 5-6ft at Waits and Parsons.

Also in the mix will be a more consistent short-range W/SW swell from a front pushing through the Bight over the weekend, clipping us later Sunday.

This should kick up an easy 2ft+ of W/SW swel for the Mid Monday, with the South Coast seeing an afternoon kick in size, just above the underlying SW groundswell.

Winds look as if they'll tend W/NW ahead of a small front approaching through the day Monday, creating fun surf in protected locations on the South Coast.

Longer term it looks like we'll see easing amounts of swell into the middle of the week with dicey winds, but more on this Friday.
