Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Fri 9th June)

Forecast Summary (tl;dr)

  • Tiny over the weekend with fresh and gusty NW winds
  • Small NE windswell potential for Mon/Tues
  • Tiny for most of next week, potential for small NE windswell next weekend

Recap

Solid NE windswell in the 3-5ft range yesterday supplied good surf. This morning has seen clean, leftovers with still sizey 3ft sets, easing through the day.

Still some solid leftovers this morning

This weekend and next week (June9- Jun 16)

Not much chance for the weekend f/cast with a high to the north of the state and a low passing to the south driving a fresh W/NW to NW flow across the Island. No major swells are expected with the low being too zonal (W-E) to send much S swell wrap into the NE of the state. Expect tiny surf Sat with just traces of leftover NE swell to 1-1.5ft.

Small amounts of S swell wrap into the NE on Sun but don’t expect more than 1-2ft at S facing beaches, flat elsewhere.

Zonal low supplies some small S swell wrap Sun

Into the new week and it looks like we are in for a very low energy week, with a weak, blocking high moving into the Tasman.

Tiny traces of S swell Mon look to give way to some small NE windswell Tues as the high directs a modest, weak fetch of N’ly winds off the South Coast. Nothing much more than 1-2ft at this stage is expected.

The rest of the week looks even tinier with a front pushing through mid week, but too far north to generate any useful swell for NETas.

There’s a chance for NE windswell to develop later next week and into next weekend as pre-frontal N’lies freshen off the South Coast but models are divergent so we’ll have to see how it’s shaping up on Mon.

Seeya then and have a great long weekend!
