Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 1st July)

Best Days: Sunday and Monday morning south swell magnets

Recap

Tiny yesterday, while there's weak windswell showing today to 1-2ft.

This week and weekend (Jul 2 - 5)

Any small windswell showing today will fade tomorrow and we're unlikely to see much over 1-2ft, easing with a dawn and gusty N/NW breeze, shifting NW mid-morning.

We then look to the new S'ly swells from the weekend, and we've got a couple of weak though favourably aligned fronts pushing up past us.

The first will move through Friday evening and a small, embedded low looks to generate strong S/SW winds through our southern swell window Friday afternoon and evening.

This should produce a fun S'ly swell for late Saturday but more so Sunday morning, but at the same time a stronger front pushing up and past us will add some additional short-range S'ly swell to the mix.

So looking at Saturday, don't expect much over a weak 2ft of S'ly windswell, with Sunday seeing better surf to 3ft or so on the south swell magnets.

Monday looks fun as the S'ly swell eases from 3ft. Looking at the local winds and they are favourable with W/SW tending NW winds on Saturday, W/SW tending variable Sunday with the better swell and W/NW tending NW ahead of a late S'ly change Monday.

Monday's change will be linked to a strong polar storm forming on the weekend, then projecting a polar front up and into the Tasman next week.

This should generate a better S'ly swell event for Tuesday/Wednesday next week, but more on this Friday.
