There’s two types of people when it comes to shirako: those who spit and those who swallow.

I’d give it a nudge in the right setting, I guess. If it was well presented in a restaurant or such. Cant really see myself gobbling off a stud bull mullet down on the high tide line.

Wouldn’t mind a “part-time salary of $166,290”. Kudos for the LNP making a good work-life balance possible. “If ya have a go you’ll get a go”

Not to mention Christian Porter is still on the back bench with his $300,000 plus a year salary

Does any country not have a well lubricated revolving door between the public and private sectors?
Japan certainly does. The Japanese phrase for revolving door is 'amakudari', literally descent from heaven. The salaries paid to the ex public officials are not enormous, but the contracts often feature eye-watering end of contract bonuses. The more 'successful' bureaucrats will take a succession of these jobs and are referred to as 'wataridori', migratory birds.

The hypocrisy of the LNP is breathtaking. The party of small government small taxes of business yet its members spend their lives sucking the teat of taxpayer funded jobs.

If you are suggesting LNP are corrupt and Labor aren't, well I'm sorry its just not true, we even saw that in Victoria with branch stacking.

Plenty of examples of corruption on both sides on all levels, its just part of the game, luckily not to the level we see in some countries though.

Are you suggesting the link you provided at 8:55AM is corruption?, I personally don't see that as corruption, is it illegal? Is it hidden? does the law see it as corruption?

Maybe some may see it as unfair or maybe not moral?

I personally don't have an issue with any political party doing this as long as its legal which i assume it is, to me it's more just looking after your own.

I guess you may not have any personal experience with what is known as the principle of (employment) selection on merit.

It is a universal principle of employment ensuring you get the best person for the job.

Sure "jobs for the boys/girls/mates/old school tie" has been going on since the dawn of time but that doesn't make it right. The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has been stacked with so many of Scotty's mates that the head of the Law Council has expressed grave concerns about the AATs effectiveness given the incidence of poorly qualified appointees.

To brush this form of nepotism off lightly as you are is to support the degradation of the conventions and pillars of proper governance / government.

Politics is mostly the last place in our society / economy this form of corruption occurs: Ministerial appointments lasting decades in many cases no less, without an open and transparent selection process, if that isn't corruption info what is?

Appointing females to even the numbers is a Labor policy, Guy - merit doesn't enter the equation. Happily the Libs female members have called it out for what it is - discrimination. On another point, watching the news tonite reminds one of why socialism is a joke and will never usurp capitalism - May Day rallies across Europe and Nth America with burning cars and fighting police - what exactly do these leftie knobs want other than to protest and cause chaos?

indo-dreaming's picture

100% Rex

If anything things are moving the opposite way not just in politics but in many work places, basically boxes need to be ticked for work places to appear inclusive, diverse and progressive, surely at times the best person for the job is not getting the job and compromise must be taken to tick boxes.

Anyway if thats what people call corruption then god Australia is doing pretty good.

BTW. speaking of quotas and gender equality, has anyone noticed the talk has only been about two genders?...how can you have gender equality if you don't include all 64 genders?

Socialism is alive and well in Australia. Plenty of generous subsidies and handouts from government give the private sector a boost in this country

“In the private sector, a CEO that kept spending money on imaginary technologies or who completely misunderstood the potential benefits of their product would be removed by their board or their shareholders. But it’s not the invisible hand of market forces that drives Australia’s obsession with fossil fuels, CCS and gas-fired recoveries, it’s the visible hand of government. Research released last week by The Australia Institute shows that Australian governments spend more money each year subsidising fossil fuels than we spend on the army.”

No issue with a brief lockdown on flights. But threats of 5 years jail is a dangerous precedent. Imagine Ricky Ponting being led away in cuffs at Sydney airport because he found a flight home from India say via Israel. The scomobogans would lose their collective IQ of 51

GuySmiley's picture
GuySmiley's picture
GuySmiley Monday, 3 May 2021 at 2:34pm

I also agree with a short-term flight ban if it were to allow some focused action here to address the heightened risk of returning passengers having Covid, you know, heaven forbid like remote quarantine at a Howard Springs like facility. None of that is happening coz Scotty wants nothing to do with his constitutional quarantine responsibilities. So this short-term flight ban will likely be extended, in the absence of targeted action as above it will be popular but is it right? To abandon Australian citizens like that with a legal right of entry.

(i can say that now, as beijing biden opened that door...) ...but there truly is, a heap of indian people in indo just got caught paying to circumvent quarrantine... the arrogance of big bucks (celebrities, sports stars... of all colours) plus certain 'cultural'elements make for a lethal mix...

Most countries have banned travel from India

The list might be longer but from a list a few days old

"Countries implementing India travel ban
Australia
Bangladesh
Belgium
Canada
France
Germany
Hong Kong
Indonesia
Iran
Italy
Kuwait
Malawi
Maldives
Netherlands
New Zealand
Oman
Pakistan
Saudi Arabia
Singapore
Thailand
United Arab Emirates

United States"

sypkan Monday, 3 May 2021 at 5:11pm

it's not right at all really guysmiley, but tbh, even if scomo had his quarrantine act together, I'd probably still support the flight ban

it's hard to know how bad things really are in india, due to their very unequal access to healthcare, the usual government cover ups bullshit, and the general modern phenomenan of misinformation, but it seems they're where china was at the start of the pandemic, or where the uk and others found themselves months in. many countries banned flights to those countries then, and fair enough I say

was the uk ban 'racist'?

didn't appear so...

(according to our much undervalued gatekeepers of all things wholesome and righteous...)

sypkan's picture

...but a lot of it does come back to your main point about oz, quarrantine facilities, and a lack of preparedness and/or planning...

seriously, how long can oz keep this piecemeal shitshow running?

I heard someone say no overseas travel until 2023 the othed day, if that's the case, surely they cannot keep squeezing the hotel lemon until then and beyond?

yeh, Im sure nz and singapore might enable some sort of overseas travel, but honestly, I cannot see a free and easy trip to indo until at least 2023 the way oz government's are responding

if that's the case, we most definitely need purpose built (more sensible) facilities

Our success with keeping Covid out in a sense is almost a downfall, many countries can still have decent numbers of arrivals as they already have Covid in their countries so even though they still want to keep it out, they can still have more relaxed quarantine systems as not drastic if it does escape.

For instance a mate from Germany went to Nicaragua on a surf trip a few months ago and just had to do quarantine at home.

Anyway it's all about how you look at things some people will never be pleased, im hating it that i won't be going to Indo anytime soon, but im also happy that my mother who has a weak immune system due to medical issues is still okay and doesn't have to isolate away from the world because covid is running rampant, and im also happy the economy has bounced back and that i have plenty of work, unlike some countries that have been hit hard by Covid and economies getting smashed, things could be much much worse..

last week i was at my local hospital and again a subcont male and mother entered, the male was gobbing up phlem in a tissue and coughing, i left and put mask on and returned, informed covid people at entrance, they shrugged their shoulders and said people lie to them a lot, asked them are they calling security...no.

Sigh ...

At the start a group of over privileged Australians returned from Aspen and promised to home quarantine at home in Portsea. Well that lasted about a day before they decided to travel throughout the Mornington Peninsula and the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne spreading covid everywhere they went.

It was this group of Australians who most likely resulted in state governments agreeing to take on hotel quarantine thereby letting our do nothing Scotty (who was arguing for home quarantine at the time) off the hook.

happy's examples and the Aspen gentry and all hotel quarantine breaches to date highlight the need for a strong commonwealth based (remote) quarantine system. Currently we still don't have nationally consistent guidelines for hotel quarantine FFS.

How goods Australia! Fckn Scomo, he wrecked a perfectly true and good statement!

Launched the Sea Wok off the beach on the back of the high tide at 4:30 this morning. Swell surprised me. Dodging and traversing lines of white water under the pale light of the half moon. I thought the waves would be tiny but kept losing sight of the lights in town between swells whilst catching livies!

Water temp starting to drop. Currents changing direction. Definite North drift. Still lots of murk and 22 degrees, give or take. Didn’t see another boat all morning.

It’s my birthday this soon and I like to drag it out into a week long festival of indulgence. Why wouldn’t you? Got more than I bargained for today though. After a couple of searing runs with dropped hooks I was starting to think something was up. Just as the tide was about to peak I picked up a longtail. Whilst still busy dispatching it, the other rod went off into a blistering run. Very nice birthday Wahoo.

Thanks Huey - you’re a fucken legend.

Get home and Margs is live on TV. Nice touch.

Got a link?

Your post is 8hrs old but i can't find any news reports to confirm your post?

Not even the ABC or Guardian are reporting what you suggest.

All the latest news says the India travel ban will be reviewed weekly but is set to currently be lifted on the 15th May.

I cant find any news on Indian travellers then being taken to Howard Springs?

The only news on Howard springs (a facility that's been used for quarantine for some time) is about how it's going to become under NT state control rather than commonwealth control.
