You really do have to wonder how low and prosituted the Republican Party are now when they are willing to put the business of government and tackling Covid on hold for cash and the potential benefit of winning Senate votes in January 2021.

So far Biden speeches have been positive and I will admit pretty good, definitely didn’t increase the division in the states with what he has said so far indeed the opposite. Has sounded a bit like an old man listing platitudes, hard not too though when you makes these sort of speeches. He had a good message and one that should not have been offensive to anyone who voted against him. I hope he intends to do, and does, what he has said is his mandate so good work there. Benefit of the doubt from me.

Gotta say I was gobsmacked by Michelle Obama’s recent Twitter thread though.

“Let’s remember that tens of millions of people voted for the status quo, even when it meant supporting lies, hate, chaos, and division. We’ve got a lot of work to do to reach out to these folks in the years ahead and connect with them on what unites us.”

I find this so off putting, righteous, insulting and needless. She would’ve done better to say nothing. I would liken it to sticking the boot in and I understand the temptation but with the crazy tinderbox of tension, and considering her influential position, she should know better.

It writes off the Trump voters as voting for a status quo which I would imagine almost all those voters would disagree with, they voted for their own reasons and right or wrong belittling them like she has in this terrible and tone deaf thread is definitely not going to encourage anything but anger and resentment from anyone who voted for Trump.

This sort of condescending, righteous and empathy lacking attitude from many in the democratic establishment will be something Biden really needs to get under control if he has any chance of unifying and healing the American people. So far he is going well, with his speeches at least, so well done, credit were it is due, keep it up Joe and tell Michelle to pull her head in.

Unless Biden genuinely addresses the bigger underlying issues (which I think he has no intention of doing) things will only get worse in the longer term.

Anyone seen an article on why the USA hasn't erupted into unrest and violence as every single media outlet reported was very likely to happen.

I havent seen any articles, closest i can find is one from the other day on how elections rarely erupt into violence. (although even after Trump won there was protest against him getting in and some even turned violent)

It was very close for a few days, there was lots of controversy, lot of unhappy Trump voters would have felt they had been cheated, Trump and his son said things that weren't exactly helpful either, it was like perfect conditions, but still nothing?

So why hasn't it happen, any theories?

Only reason i can think it hasn't happened is Trump voters perhaps believing they still havent lost and still retain hope through court cases or something.

Or that Trump i don't think has conceded defeat yet?

Maybe when he does things will change?

PS. i know someone will say you sound disappointed it hasn't happened, not so much that, just more surprised and confused, and also surprised i cant find an article anywhere on the topic.

Commander in Chief Trump can leave a lasting legacy that World supports.
Trump has already committed to this peace process where Biden has failed.

Crew know that China, North Korea & Russia overwhelmingly endorse Trump.
All salute Trump for destroying western alliances.

Taliban overwhelmingly endorse Trump for being the nicest guy they know.

Feb 2020 Doha agreement with Taliban sees US troops out by Xmas.
Later, this was interpreted as May 2021.
Cease fire & power share...US would hand over the Killing duties to the Taliban.
US was to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners...in 10 days.

April : US fail to release prisoners so Taliban go on a daily killing spree
Aug -Oct : Trump releases Hard Core West Killers first then the full 5,000.

Oct Taliban :
"Honestly, Trump was much more honest with us than we thought, even we were stunned with his offer to meet Taliban in Camp David."

"Trump might be ridiculous for the rest of the world, but he is sane and wise man for the Taliban."..." We wish the President a speedy recovery."
"We hope Trump will win the Election."

Trump welcomes the terrorists support but will yer quit telling people I'm nice.

Biden on the other hand campaigned on US contingent to remain as Police.
Biden is committed to keeping troops in Syria, Somali, Afghanistan & Iraq.

Secretary of Defence opposed Trump pulling out all Troops. (He was "Terminated".)

Trump is planing total troop withdrawal
Thus leaving Biden at odds with America & The World.
With zero support to re-establish World strategic points.

Forget what AOC opinions on her own party are. What she recently advocated for her opponents is far more telling and (I keep saying it but...) Orwellian.

Namely - advocating for the archiving of details of Trump ‘sycophants’, so basically anyone who supported Trump. She is an elected representative in a democratic republic advocating for the creation of an archive of citizens details purely based on a difference of opinion, WOW, for what reason? Christmas cards? Seems more like a tool for retribution.

There is no way to explain this as anything but a malevolent and authoritarian action against people (some of which would likely be her constituents) based on nothing more than a difference of opinion. Not exactly unity and healing from the DNC congresswoman.

Reminds me of the ‘cointelpro’ FBI conspiracy, it’s a real thing.

This report highlights flash points.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/11/04/trump-social-media-...

eg: Several more overwhelming obvious factors rarely get a look in!

[ Stop the Count ] (vs) [Commander in Chief's finest Military Cheaters Count ]
Rep' Rifles (vs) Rep' Military Machine Guns = Bit of fizzer! (Dumbarses)

[WR] Covid Testing in Swing State Electoral Hot Spots
[WR] Covid Cases in Swing State Electoral Hot Spots.
[WR] Covid Isolation in Swing State Electoral Hot Spots
[WR] Covid Quarantine in Swing State Electoral Hot Spots

Sounds like the perfect recipe to lock down Hot Heads in electoral Hot Spots
Just enough to break up & isolate core cells of gangs.
Our Best Covid spreader (vs) Your best Covid Cougher...(Let's call it a draw!)

tbb noticed the pattern about mid year & can sadly example it even better now...
As covid cases rise the shooting rate drops & exaggerates when gangs can gather.
https://wamu.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/seamus-coronavirus-d3-us-cur...
June/July low covid cases exploded highest ever shooting rate...(A Killing Season)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_State...
Now see how the shooting rate offsets the covid rate each & every time.
Therefore the electoral Hot Spots are the safest spots to be during the US election.
Apex instigators would naturally be exposed to the virus & mostly isolated.
Again we saw this with the Covid Parties...Top Jock contracts virus & wins bet!

Note: Covid > Zero School / Uni / Religious mass shootings.
This anomaly resembles the lack of Planning & timing for Poll Violence.
The crowds & numbers are made erratic by extra security points.
The accidental harming of innocents is a real possibility...(Not part of the Plan)
Yes! A standard open School Vote Booth is a Target but not controlled one.
Shooter has less time on his side..less opportunity to command the attention.

As soon as you take covid away...the shootings return but even more amplified.
We can assume many are executions (hits) delayed then exaggerated by covid

Did some research into this anomaly thru the year & covid does control everything
If this Election was held in June..you would've seen many deaths.
Terrible thing to say & can't be sure, but the facts speak for themselves.
Covid exaggerates violence in every way ...more so in the US.

tbb had earlier pointed out the DV ramp with STFIYRDB.
Stay The Fuck In Your Rape Dungeon Bitch
At that time, tbb pointed out more DV victims than OZ Covid Cases.

More Covid = More DV (vs) Less Covid = More Shootings
tbb is sorry to say that...it's a cruel world made more cruel by Covid.
Yes! The election dodged a shower of bullets...but Covid violence creeps about...
We all shared a laugh when Donald checked on his wife's vote!
Covid DV is a tool for Voter Suppression
https://www.damemagazine.com/2020/05/26/domestic-violence-is-a-form-of-v...

tbb applauds Sickaz positive vibe so checked out Michelle Obama's jive talkin'
Michelle's Victory Speech : (Comes across all warm & bubbly!)
"But we've also got to recognize that the path to progress will always be uphill. We'll always have to scrape and crawl up toward that mountaintop!"

tbb would rather finish on a more positive note...

Facto I think that Monbiot article is very much on the money, despite the fact that The Guardian is corporate.

And from what I've read, the American communities with low economic development, poor health conditions and low levels of educational attainment are those most likely to be segregated by socio-economic status, race and ethnicity.

I'm happy to be corrected but to talk of addressing racism without talking about addressing underlying systemic/economic factors (i.e. those caused by neoliberalism) is just perpetuating the status quo and seems very much like hot air.

Considering 70 million voted for Trump, including increased minorities etc etc and he won all the flyover states again (pretty much) I'd love to read some sober analysis on Trumps economic legacy with the America First nationalism program.

Did it work?

If so, why and how.

My gut feeling is it's smoke and mirrors and globalism/neoliberalism continues apace under Trump.
It's just the rhetoric that changed.

Happy to be proven wrong though if someone can come up with a respectable counter-argument.

Good question freey.

Pretty much all talk and FA action.

"While the Trump administration has claimed that the era of U.S. offshoring is “over,” the reality is that the United States has not begun to address the root causes of America’s growing trade deficits and the decline of American manufacturing. Decades of trade, currency, and tax policies that incentivized offshoring, combined with an utter failure to invest adequately in infrastructure and good jobs at home, have contributed to growing inequality and an eroding middle class."

Not to mention the impact of the COVID-19 crisis...

For the past three decades, mainstream Democrats have tied their fates to the twin mantras of free trade and globalization, which have cost millions of jobs and many thousands of factories. Bill Clinton campaigned for and signed NAFTA in 1993. He also negotiated and signed the agreement that created the World Trade Organization in 1994. And he negotiated the agreement that resulted in China’s entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Barack Obama negotiated and campaigned for the failed Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. It is time for progressives to own and reject these failed policies, and to build and campaign on a plan to develop a 21st-century New Deal for the domestic economy.

In 2016, Donald Trump campaigned against globalization and these failed trade deals—which have clearly hurt U.S. manufacturing. It worked. He captured nearly 80% of the electoral votes in the top 25 manufacturing states, as shown above. But he has since failed to deliver for working Americans. Now the wheels are coming off. It’s time for a meaningful rewrite of failed U.S. trade and economic policies—all urgently needed to revive the U.S. economy at a critical time

Westofthelake's picture
Westofthelake's picture
Westofthelake Thursday, 12 Nov 2020 at 12:36pm

A quick bit of objective analysis from link above:

Here’s what the data actually show about the purported “blue-collar boom” under the Trump administration: The U.S. gained roughly 500,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs from 2016 to 2019. But these gains are exactly on par with gains across the entire economic recovery period from 2010 to 2019, during which 166,000 manufacturing jobs were gained each year, on average. The 2016–2019 gains did not represent an improvement over prior years in that decade, and even the decade’s overall gains had managed to restore only a fraction of the jobs lost in the prior decade.

And recent years’ manufacturing gains were abruptly wiped out by the COVID-19 crisis—with a staggering 740,000 manufacturing jobs lost this year, as shown in Figure B (BLS 2020). If President Trump wants to take credit for the job growth at the tail end of a decade of recovery from the Great Recession, then he must also own this collapse, thanks to his administration’s mismanagement of the pandemic—including a refusal to organize an effective national response (Scott 2020b). And while the June 2020 data show an upswing in manufacturing jobs, more recent jobs data indicate that the nascent and partial recovery in manufacturing is at risk due to recurrence of COVID-19 in states that have reopened, including many in the South and Western United States (Hannon and Kiernan 2020; WSJ Pro 2020; Bartash 2020).

As for social media, like the saying goes (that I just made up) - "You'll see more on (moron)social media."

RE social media: Currently reading 'Truth is Trouble' by Malcolm Knox, about free speech and the Israel Folau incident, and the prologue is excellent. One of those freewheeling pieces that connects seemingly disparate ideas into a cogent yet concise argument, whetting your appetite for the deep dive to come.

On media freedoms, Knox draws a parallel with the illusion of poverty in Western society. People on wages many times the national average, and far beyond the average wage of generations past, who genuinely think they're struggling.

Similarly, with social media and the atomisation of media, never before have people had as much freedom to speak up, say what's on their minds, yet a large cohort are under the illusion that they're being oppressed like never before.

Vic Local's picture

My big problem with Folau is he signed an employment contract saying he wouldn't make homophobic comments, then he did, then he was warned, and then he did it again.
After his contract was terminated he hid behind the religion / free speech argument.
He was fired for a contract breach not being a bigot. If religious people are exempt from abiding by the terms and conditions of their employment contracts, they aren't worth the paper they are written on.
Folau is still free to be a bigot, he just can't be a bigot without consequence which he signed up to as an adult.
Glad he's gone from the public domain. Fucking grifting arsehole took the big $$$ from Rugby Australia on the way out.

Actually, if true (and, IMO it's very plausible) it'll be fascinating to watch to see if how much this affects News Corp (whose business is struggling in a lot of areas).

From the Axios article:

  • There's been lots of speculation about Trump starting a cable channel. But getting carried on cable systems would be expensive and time-consuming.
  • Instead, Trump is considering a digital media channel that would stream online, which would be cheaper and quicker to start.
  • Trump's digital offering would likely charge a monthly fee to MAGA fans. Many are Fox News viewers, and he'd aim to replace the network — and the $5.99-a-month Fox Nation streaming service, which has an 85% conversion rate from free trials to paid subscribers — as their top destination.
  • Trump's database of email and cellphone contacts would be a huge head start. Trump's lists are among the most valuable in politics — especially his extensive database of cellphone numbers for text messages.

I recently watched Bombshell which is about exposing the sexual harassment that permeated Fox news from the top down. " The film is about selling sex, selling a candidate, selling yourself, selling the truth. And about how at Fox News all those things came together." Good movie, worth a watch. Especially how fucking toxic the Fox brand is, and how the whole shite show is controlled from literally one building. Anyways, there's a part at the end when Roger Ailes the slimy CEO is about to be given the boot. At the table with Rupe and Sons Roger boasts how he made them (the Murdochs) one third of their bottom line profit the previous year, $1.5 billion.

Fox helped make Trump and now he's going to bite off the hand that fed him. But Fox was making lots of money before Trump came along, and at a guess will continue to do so. I reckon he does tend to overstate his importance somewhat...

I love watching Fox News / Trump administration / GOP destroy each other.
Rupert is over Trump but wants to keep the Orange Lunatic's cult followers as audience members.
Trump is over Murdoch and wants the Fox News audience. He needs a platform to spread his BS and keep the $$$ rolling in to cover his debts.
The GOP can't move forward or back. None of their future leaders want to move first against Trump because the backlash from the base will be huge.
When Trump expands his media footprint beyond social media, Fox News are going to go to war. It will be like the two school bullies beating the shit out of each other while the students cheer on hoping for a long and bloody battle.
Now that everything has gone pear-shaped, these grifter turds deserve each other.

Fella's, start getting your heads around the fact that the Demo's are going to get A-class exposed for attempting to steal the US election. Its as obvious as Vic's anger issues.

How is it "obvious" that "the Demo's are going to get A-class exposed for attempting to steal the US election"?

Please don't say "use your third eye", "join the dots", or "wait and see".

Hahaha, Just had a minute of boredom, thought i'd rattle your cage a bit Vic.... But really that picture freaks me out.

The obvious thing is the media Ben. Its silent, dead. Nothing left in the tank, no-where to go other than around in circles. The stage was set and there's no audience. Maybe VIC in the front row..

Hollow statement. Try and fill it.
