You know when the Caps lock button is stuck on that "losing" is the most bitter of pills to swallow...

081120

"So it's worth keeping in mind just how the process would have to go for this to end up in the Supreme Court. Trump and the Republican party can't just call up the Supreme Court and ask them to intervene.

If they think something has gone wrong, they'll need to file a lawsuit in the relevant state of federal court first. From there, the case could then make its way up to the Supreme Court after several decisions and appeals from both sides.

At that point, the Supreme Court would then have to first decide if it would even hear the case (it doesn't have TOTAL power over anything and everything in the US)....then it might decide on that case.

But a few things here.

First, there is no evidence of widespread fraud, malpractice or shifty stuff happening at this election. There just isn't. Like I've been telling you folks, even the conservative Fox News is saying they are investigating the allegations from the Trump campaign and can't find the evidence to back it up. Sure that could change, but the Trump campaign is yet to releasing anything convincing.

Second, the Supreme Court wouldn't just take a case about "the election". It would be ruling on a specific instance of something happening during the election — for example like ballots being counted that arrived late in one state or observers not being given access in another. A ruling on one of those things wouldn't affect a ruling on the other.

Which bring me to my third and final thing — it's just not close enough in enough states for any of that to matter. In 2000 the Supreme Court ruling decided the election because Florida was THE state that decided the election. It ALL came down to that one state...and the ruling affected the tiny number of ballots that eventually decided the state. Trump is losing in LOTS of places by LOTS of votes. He might win a victory on some provisional ballots in Pennsylvania. But even if ALL of those ballots are thrown out, Joe Biden is leading by more than 37,000 votes in the state and it's growing. Joe Biden is also leading in Nevada, Arizona, Georgia yada yada yada.

Trump would need massive legal victories in multiple states at this stage to overturn this. Some were concerned that the election would be close enough that a Supreme Court decision like Florida in 2000 would decided this election.

But it's just not close, and it's American voters who've decided instead."

I hate to go all pedantic on you there westof...

but who are you quoting?

yourself? (please don't go all facto on us...)

...regardless, its all very true, but there is a process, and it needs to be followed. if trump's got something, and it makes it to the supreme court, then good for him...

if he hasn't got shit, it won't get anywhere, so be it... that's the process...

he has had some small wins in court though, we'll see what he's actually got regarding 'fraud'

fucked if I would concede atm, especially with the 'glitch' that's just been reported, even at politico, doesn't look good. it's probably nothing, but if you were trump, wouldn't you want to know?

there's quite a bit of stuff that doesn't look good tbh, in such a tight toxic election, the people have a right to know that it was conducted in a manner as fair as it could be, which is almost impossible with the american system, where state rules are adjusted in the eleventh hour...

but it's a process that needs ti be followed. the bigger issue is trust rather than the partisan toxicity, there's no trust in either side for non partisan people

Hell yes goofyfoot. I'm always happy to admit when I get my facts wrong or when my predictions don't come about.
The absolute best way to reduce the chances of post election violence is for the cult leader to tell his followers it was a free and fair election and he lost.
When Trump is telling his nutter followers that they were robbed, the chances of violence go way up. I have zero confidence that Trump will admit he is a loser.
Do I think there will be mass scale organised violence? No. Do I think there will be a lot of lone wolf right wing extremist mass shootings over the next few months? Yes.
The way I see it, there's been a big uptick in right wing political violence in the USA. And that's when they've had their man in the White House. I simply can't see things improving when the hated Dumbocrats own the tent.

ha ha obviously a little tongue in cheek little bit of fishing.

But it is still kind of true to an extent, a percentage of the modern left these days especially that left wing uni student type, have made social justice and protest come virtue signalling be it online or on the streets almost a hobby/activity/sport, we even see groups paying people at the higher levels via donations to basically motivate and ensure things happen on the streets and there is many that have become serial protestors, we even see it in Australia, same core group of people at every protest.

They are very organised and very motivated, if Trump had won these groups would be leading protest that turn into riots right now.

Conservatives dont really have this organised type of culture, even the groups they have that people want to label this or that are really more just boys clubs excuses to drink beer with the boys.

It's harder to get them all motivated as one, i still would have expected they would have got motivated to hit the streets and riot though, they normally do for big occasions.

But seems not, go figure.

Anyway going to get wet, last surf before Melb crowds hit.

I don't feel like a different dem candidate would have been able to beat trump. Any further left policies - the type that could actually go some way to helping the working class - would have been mercilessly attacked, even more so than Biden was.

Even Biden was greeted with swivel-eyed 'socialism' nut jobbery. The guy is so far from socialist it's not funny.

You've got to understand that the 'third way' crap was largely a response to the environment that politics was and is existing in. Yes the democrats, and other left wing parties, abandoned some of their principles and constituents, but this was the cost of actually being elected. No use having wonderful effective policies if you never get to implement them (see The Greens for more information).

Sickaz's picture

I think that the DNC had at least one candidate who could have inspired enough voters to beat trump, Tulsi. It’s sad, defeatist, reactionary, negative and a lesser of two evils scenario to think that a decrepit ex Obama VP is the ONLY way to get enough voters inspired to get the DNC a victory over Trump.

Try harder DNC, if you hadn’t wasted the last 4 years you might have been able to beat a president, who many of the people who voted for him can’t stand him, with candidates who actually care about making meaningful change. Easy pickings, as long as you don’t put up a couple of candidates as off putting as Biden/Harris.

I get it Trump has a loyal fan base, many of whom are nut jobs, I get, and maybe I’m am an optimist but I like to think that most people are smart enough to see a good option and a bad one. This election forced people to pick between two terrible options and that was largely in part to the DNC primary shenanigans and their holier than thou righteousness that they know better than their constituents. My opinion anyway.

In my opinion Joe Biden/Kamala Harris and Trump/Pence are both so uninspiring and horrible that many voters chose the option they hated less instead of the option that they liked the most.

There are many valid reasons to think that a Biden presidency is a worse prospect than Trump and vice versa, when you consider policies, past results, powerful forces involved in the parties, etc, you are splitting hairs IMO. To assume all Trump supporters are dumb, ignorant, racist, deplorable is well, dumb, ignorant, prejudiced and deplorable.

Satirical but crazy that as slim a chance as it is, ALMOST impossible indeed, but there is a possibility out the that Joe Biden could have Trump as his VP! Sounds crazy right, because it is crazy, but it is theoretically possible apparently.
