Speaking of prisoners, this video is quite old but it's complete gold.

Escaped from prison and convinces the cop he isn't the guy with some sweet talking.

From his Wiki page "Richard Lee McNair (born December 19, 1958) is a convicted murderer known for his ability to escape and elude capture.[1] In 1987, McNair murdered one man and shot a second man four times during a botched robbery. He is currently serving two terms of life imprisonment for these crimes including escaping from prison.

After McNair's arrest, he escaped three times from three different institutions using various creative methods. On his first attempt, he used lip balm to squeeze out of a pair of handcuffs. He escaped a second time by crawling through a ventilation duct. In his last escape from a federal prison in April 2006, he mailed himself out of prison in a crate and successfully convinced a police officer he was not the prison escapee but actually a jogger.[2][3] This resulted in his mugshot being featured a dozen times on the TV show America's Most Wanted, and made him one of the top fifteen fugitives wanted by US Marshals. McNair traveled to Canada twice in order to evade capture, traveling across the country for over a year before being apprehended in a random police check. Much of what the public knows about McNair's escape and his time as a fugitive is through McNair's prison correspondence with a Canadian journalist, Byron Christopher.[2]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lee_McNair

Taibbi - clear eyed and a gift for articulation. Legend.

“Commercial news outlets, not Facebook, have been the chief architects of the panic era. They’ve spent six years now coaching Trump-era audiences to act like roulette addicts endlessly trying to win back a loss, begging them to stay at the table and just move their chips from one “existential threat” or “apocalypse” to the next. From Russiagate to Treason in Helsinki to kids in cages to Bountygate to the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020 to the “pandemic of the unvaccinated” and the “biggest threat against democracy since the Civil War,” audiences have fallen into a freakout and stayed there. They wake up knowing nothing, but by noon demand the biggest available policy weapon be fired in the shortest possible time frame, at problems they only just heard about, with the zero-to-defund trajectory of the George Floyd story typifying the pattern. Just as quickly, the same people forget and move on, trying on new terrors like shoes.”

Big shout out to BB!

might be worth pointing out that Blackrock, Vanguard and State Street are by far the biggest ETF (and managed/mutual fund) providers so this accounts for why they keep showing up with the largest ownership concentrations in the big corporate conglomerates.

I have had a little look into ETF's and still wish to do a bit more research. Is there a recommended broker/ platform where these can be bought for what would be a pretty small scale investor?
Cheers.

hey Andy, ETFs are traded on the share market like ordinary shares, so you just trade them through your usual broker.

I use commsec but only because I used to work for CBA and as an employee they force you to use only their products...

See for instance: https://www.commsec.com.au/products/exchange-traded-funds.html in which they say:

You'll be able to trade ETFs listed on various other international stock markets too via the online trading from our big-4 banks.

A few funds have combined controlling influence in almost every industry and large scale economic activity throughout most of the Western Hemisphere. Horizontal and vertical integration across basically any and every industry you can think of …..agriculture, mining, transport, media, tech, travel .

These funds are at the behest of a few unfeasibly wealthy old money families. These families -through non profits, these funds and the overarching control of the economy, media and politics basically control the direction of the western world.

The vid isn’t perfect but I dare say it’s way more worthy than the scoff poised on your lips after reading my summary would merit. Give it a go.

Unless you can suggest a more likely reason that every western nation has arrived at the exact same political outcome . simultaneous and synchronised coincidence perhaps?

"A few funds have combined controlling influence in almost every industry"

On the first example of Pepsico and Coca Cola, on his own data, that claim does not stand up. The investment groups who have large shareholdings in both DO NOT have a controlling interest in either. To suggest that minority holdings of several companies in the same industry enables control of the industry is simply not true.
The fact that large investment funds have diverse holdings in many industries is hardly news and is a direct result of financial deregulation starting with the Reagan Thatcher era and pursued most enthusiastically by governments like our own bunch of neolib pirates. So if people are genuinely concerned about the concentration of economic power, the first (small) step would be to vote the current lot out.

The wealthy usually do well out of market crashes for a couple of reasons. One they don't need to sell at the bottom as they have plenty of wealth to see them through the short term crisis. Two, they have the cash reserves that enable them to buy at bargain basement prices at the bottom. End result? They have an even bigger slice of the pie.

In the example you mention they control 30% of voting shares in the company. More than the rest of the top ten institutional share holders combined. Who do you think has voting control? Who do you think appoints and directs the executive and board of the company?

You think the power lies with the punter retail investors who vote with their 0.00000000001% of the share Register and have zero behind closed doors influence on proceedings?

You don’t seem to understand how things work BB. Think corporate lobbyists influencing politicians…..who’ve been groomed, hand picked and placed there by the corporate interests even before the “ lobbying “ -kaching kaching- has begun.

You think Australia isn’t economically depressed? Holy shit!
We must live in seperate countries cause all I see is a hollowed out and floundering economy running on the expiring fumes of government and personal debt.

It’s about control Freeride. The top of the global power pyramid has been exploiting external populations ie other countries through colonialism, invasion and reconstruction for decades (centuries!) . One example is invading Iraq under zero pretext in order to destroy it, rebuild it at US taxpayer expense and then bend it to their will. These same powers began turning their focus inwards towards a western populations about 50 years ago. It’s called the neoliberal era. Now we are getting to the pointy end where they want wholesale control. They want the lot. Just like kings and Queens a few centuries ago. Nothing new , it’s a tired old story ,just that the techniques for control have evolved with technology and the grasp for power is truly global in scope.

Watch the vid. Then get back to me with your opinion.

Every single year 100,000 Australians develop the preventable disease called diabetes -2000 every week! -and the government does less than nothing to prevent this. The fast food cause is advertised on prime time TV every single day. Yet you honestly believe the government would genuinely shutter the entire nation and halt the economy for a virus with a a 99% survival rate? Lol.

Smoking kills 25,000 Australians every single year and clogs up every hospital and ICU in the country and you can still buy them. The government doesn’t give a fuck about public health, particularly if combating ill health jeopardises a single cent of profit. Yet now you think the government will do literally anything to stop the spread of a piddly virus? I really think anyone who swallows that line has the gullibility issue.

Blowin's picture

The evidence is as I stated above. Our government, like all Western Governments, aids , abets and encourages the creation of ill health throughout our population. This is undeniable. With the stroke of a pen they could initiate legislation which banned fast food, cigarettes, alcohol. But they won’t because that seems a ban too far doesn’t it?

The government could fine people who are overweight. Just as they do those who dared leave their house arrest during lockdown.

The government could restrict the obese from participating in society as they do the unvaccinated. It’s obviously not too extreme a measure to contemplate is it?

It’s issues such as these - fat, lazy, fast food , smoking- which currently and historically killed far, far, far more people than even the most ridiculously outrageous models dared suggest would die from Covid. They also completely overwhelm every part of the health system every day of the week, every week of the year , for years and years.

Yet nothing gets done.

The “Life be in it” campaign, which had the temerity to merely suggest you try and stay fit was 40 years ago and not a peep from our government since.

This is rock solid evidence that the government does not take public health seriously. That’s before you even start the discussion about how they have completely hollowed out budgets for the health system.

Yet now - hold on to your hats folks- we are to believe that the same neoliberal system is willing to wantonly destroy the entire functionality of society and the viability of the economy for a spicy cough!?!?

Come on mate. Where’s your evidence that what I’m saying isn’t true? Because a few people got sick …..lol.

It’s a piss take from the top down.

Don’t get me wrong, I cringed too. But I know that it’s in the general direction of being correct. Maybe you should consider it the alternative to the “models” which have predicted that 1% of the Indonesian people would go from a standing start to death in 4 weeks last year?

How come you don’t recognise Sunrise and Kochie as hysterical fear porn peddling conspiracy theorists when they so plainly are? Instead you show your gullibility by saying “ Oh , they got that a bit wrong”. No mate….they didn’t get it wrong. They told you what they had to to get you to accept the coming destruction of everything you assumed unassailable, such as your right to leave your house for more than a single hour per day in Melbourne or to think you could sit on your own in a park without police fining or beating you.

Where’s the deserved punishment for those who shouted fire in the crowded theatre on morning TV? For some reason it’s just forgotten and forgiven and the same people responsible for the modelling are then trotted out to give opinions and influence policy a short time later. ……piss take. From go to whoa.

Where’s the evidence supporting the panic inducing claim that hundreds of thousands of Indonesians would die within 30 days? For some reason you don’t think the mob who told us about the weapons of mass destruction hidden in Iraq need to provide any evidence for a panic inducing statement that is broadcast to millions of Australians on network prime time , whilst you attack some minor league opinion on a youtube.

I don’t know who David Ickie is or anything about the crew who made it, but I believe intuitively that the world is heading towards a coercive and controlling global government and that individual rights and freedoms are headed for a steep decline within our lifetimes. You can argue about this all you like but the evidence is everywhere around you of global institutions which are instigated and influenced, if not directly controlled, by an unanswerable extremely wealthy elite.

Covid has been instructional if you recognise the virus for what it is in contrast to what the media and government would have you believe.

For Sydney and Melbourne, possibly. Possibly not. I think time will tell.

For the rest of the country, those lockdowns have meant most of the rest of the country has barely experienced Covid.
it has effectively quarantined the disease to urban areas, in a way that few other countries have achieved.

Outrageous and unforgivable fear campaign?

If you believe the available evidence that 700000 people died in the USA, then it seems most people were prepared to temporarily suspend normal civil liberties like freedom of movement so that could not happen here.

Ok, so the Covid media conspiracy complex has faked the death of hundreds of thousands of people in America.
(And the rest of the world presumably.)
so they can usher in a control society where we are all going to starve unless we bow to govt masters.

Maybe you are right.

Maybe it's a clusterfuck of unknown origin as Syppo contends, where certain forces have leveraged it for all its worth.

That could be true too.

I'll withhold judgement for now, and if in a years time, that is the case, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

For now the official story: a zoonotic virus, lab or animal derived, has become a global pandemic and govts around the world have used a variety of methods to try and control it, successfully or unsuccessfully.
Many people have died, most of them old, or obese.
Many have been put into hospital, most old but some younger and healthier.

We are now coming out of the pandemic as the virus becomes endemic and measures used to control the virus are receding as countries rely on vaccines.

Thats close enough to the story that seems most plausible to me.

I reckon you're a liar blowin. Remember when you said 50% of Australians were born overseas? Remember when you said 90% of international student were Chinese? Remember when you claimed the bashing death of a white man by an indigenous man was racially motivated even though there was zero evidence presented in court that that was the case?
Now you were wrong on each occasion. You could have simply put up your hand and admitted getting your facts wrong, but you never did. You failed to correct false statements, which pretty much makes you a liar.

'pretty much' doesn't equate to 'you're a liar'...

if overstating your case makes one an outright liar... then you vicvocal, are one of the biggest liars on here...

perhaps the biggest!

outright

really sypkan?
Blowin repeatedly makes false statements and refuses to correct them. Making false statements by mistake is OK, but when you refuse to correct them, it's deliberate misleading. On the few occasions I've made mistakes, I've put up my hand, admitted it, and corrected the record.
Like I said, blowin is a liar. Oh and you're an idiot. And no, I won't be retracting that statement.

how many times did you write 6 people were killed at jan 6 so called 'insurrection'?

how many times did you suggest the people were killed by trump rioters? ....and then avoid admitting that no one ...not a single one! ...was killed by a trump rioter?

how many times?

how many times did you suggest ivermectin was only for horses? ...just like a cnn gimp...

and spread the ER ivermectin story ...just like a cnn gimp... ....only to be proven to be just as as ridiculous as a cnn gimp...

your list of cnn lies reiterated is endless...

you do not correct them... you just go quiet... you avoid the questions...

just like a cnn gimp
