{R.I.P} Sixto Rodriguez...swellnet continues...
Sharing that 70's surfers / surf chix loved COLD FACT.
Always vegged out...us Gromz had to flip the disc for them.
Kinda fits in like one long continuous session...
Jose Feliciano > Santana > Cat Stevens > Rodriguez > Cheech'n'Chong > Marley
Back Catalogue cont...
1967 Track released under Rod Riguez. (Not bad for first single)
Pretty sure that start is similar to a cool Psych band as it sounds really familiar!
Anyone else pick up on this hook...possibly from another alt act from the same era.
Doin' tbb's mind in ....coz the other band & tune is equally groovy...this is a way cool track! Wow!
Sugar Man ~ Top shelf dedicated atmospheric psych beat tribute will space you out.
Comes on slow but then enslaves the audience...this is too good...Wot the hell are they playing at.

The most well known unknown musician by far - by a few.
Mid-90s, Eyre Peninsula, I shared sessions and a camp with a South African named Conrad who would spark up every time I put Cold Fact on the tape player. None of his cogitations made much sense to me - this was the era of Mandela and de Klerk and Rodriguez sang nothing about race - though I understood it when I saw the doco Sugar Man.
Growing up in that era we had absolutely no idea how "unfamous" Rodriguez was. He was just part of the surf culture in the 70's and 80's and was huge. No one ever gave much thought about his career or history until the doco came out. The fact he was compared to Bob Dylan's genius makes you wonder how and why their careers took such different paths.

Seb was an unreal guy from Sydney I stayed next to at G-land 6 years ago. Both there solo and had an epic week and a half in the jungle together.
The last couple of years him and a couple of mates bought a boat and have been sailing around Indo surfing their brains out.
He passed away a couple of days ago from shallow water blackout spear fishing in Indo. Gone way too soon. RIP Sebby

What a song and film!. Geez imprinted memories on me at a very early age. The footage and song went so well together.
RIP.

Gary Wright ~ swellnet tribute continued...
Agree ...Dreamweaver won over a large youthful audience...real game changer!
Still got the single from the day...
Gary was writer / Composer / part vocals + Keyboard on Spooky Tooth & this classic.
Judas Priest cover apparently has subliminal messages resulting in a 1985 suicide Pact.
JP cover does have some minor Layered Quad Echoes (see : Blue Oyster Cult ~ Godzilla)
Does Gary's Spooky track evoke Satan...better turn down the sound...this forum is filling up too fast!
Gary has a long recording history...
http://www.gilmarkle.com/gary-wright
Gary was a child Actor & learnt keyboard & led school bands.
1960...Aged 16 recorded this single & a few other tracks.
Not much info on his late teens > Early 20's Psych Study era > His NY Bands to 1965 (Be worth a look!)
Just reckon he might have recorded a decent track or two with some bands.
Mostly coz Gary was a leader in all his bands...so they're must be some early 60's background...
Says he toured Europe (Germany?) with a band (1965) just prior to Spooky Tooth.
Possibly appeared on beat club...also session work for Island Records...{r.i.p} Dreamweaver!

2003 self-titled album? Had no idea.
Great band name, but two self-titled albums?
Anyway, from their first self-titled, a track that even messrs Hetfield and Ulrich couldn't top. Simple and brilliant cover art too.

Josh Homme is all over that riff from The Wait

Goldie Punkz Salute the crew's Geordie Walker send off...
tbb bought Killing Joke LP in 1980 + a few others
Debut 'Ruts' gig...both bands broke thru with buckets of Punk cred...not easy!
Still wear that Killing Joke Tee to Gigs...punters go mad they do...just as crew are onto it.
Swear tbb gets pulled up & Shirt Fronted every Gig...in yer face...M.A.T.E...Point > The Holy Grail Tee.
Was offered $180 for Damned T shirt & sold a few to same bloke for $400.
Great Killing Joke tracks the crew cued up...
Back to the *Damned crossover...tbb is still workin' thru the Back catalogue of Ultra Addictive [80's] riff
(Track) Banjo Song (Roots)
Infectious belter > Baby Come Back > (Hook) Venus
Classical Gas > Pinball Wizard > Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress > Don't Fear The Reaper
(New Wave) Message in a Bottle > Echo Beach > Love will tear us apart again
{Blatant Goth riff rips}
Hollow Hills ( Bauhaus) Life Goes on (Damned) > Eighties (Killing Joke)
22 Faces (Garden Of Delight) re: Hear the Echo Beach / 80's cross version!
Come as You Are (Nirvana)
MPHO (Echo Beach Hook)

That's some shit hot infectious line-up of Cool Bands / Tunes with Cred sharing that Gold hook!
Love to hear more of that Hook...every decade gets reworked > Money for Jam! Lock it in..
That Goth era signature Hook...Like Zombie Juice!
Nirvana got sick of rippin' off Oz Pub Rock riffs...like no one will notice if Seppos flog that Goth riff...Huh!
Come as you are... still sounds so cool...All say Aye! Just plain infectious groove...give it to me...more!
tbb is hooked enough to share the secret recipe...got something to put in you!

Anti Nowhere League (I hate People) Godfathers (Birth School Work Death) revived Snuff Rock
Here's an example of Oz release UK LP tbb scored 2nd hand in the day "Worthless Trash"
tbb's band Midnite Choir Boys (Shock Punk) Live gig fav... 'KILL' off (Bass player's - Snuff Rock ep).
Kinda like a rare alt punk brew we'd pass around with the bong!

We never saw a record of 'The Nips' only rarely heard on Brizzo mixed tape / ZZZ.
Shane MacGowan The Nipple Erectors (Cop a dose of Shane's Snuff Rock!)
Think these songs are 1978 (Check Live Gig) + Paul Weller Jam Sound - Happy Song)
Shane left to form Pogue Mahone also shortened to The Pogues
Listen to how Shane formulates that (Urgent Sound) for 'The Jam' with Happy Song.
Nope! Not a Joke...Paul Weller was a huge fan...Produced them + Joint Gig!
Just saying that Shane was a well respected live Front Man before the The Pogues
This ultra modern ~ Broody sharp smart Mod / Ska song will amaze...also a Nip of Reggae about...
Happy to share Shane's rather lively Happy Song

Have been a huge fan of Shane MacGowan for years, since The Nips, to the Pogues and Pope's as well as his duets with Sinead, Marie Brennan and The Priests.
What an amazing talent and human, punk attitude with Irish soul and a heart of gold.
Bought the box set 5 cds that Phil Chevron put together 'Just look em Straight in the eye and say Pogue Mahone with all kinds of demos and outtakes. So raw and brilliant.
Anyway raving on so glad I got to see em in Sydney in 2012, flew back to Oz especially.
Shane, Sinead and Joe are no doubt jamming in heaven tonight with Ronnie Drew looking on with a pint of Guinness...
