RIP Davo. Too young to go. Especially in that manner.
RIP, very sad indeed....

Very sad. And please stop this behaviour all those who do it. Little bro survived similar, it messed him up for months.

And for Kalani, RIP, it look like he lived large for the time he was given.

That’s really sad news. No doubt he had his issues (quite big ones at that) but he didn’t have the worlds easiest upbringing and was freakishly talented in the surf.
The only time I was in the water with him was 96 at Warriewood and he was popping some massive airs in the shorey on an okayish day.
Incredible to see in the flesh

Vale Jerry Lee Lewis
Interesting that Several early 60's Brits > 80/90's US Punk shared a passion for Jerry Lee Lewis
Being a swellnet hodad...better step up here...no pressure!
Yes! tbb did actually grow up in a house with Jerry Lee Lewis records & played them.
Yep! tbb still has 1957 Great Balls of Fire / Whole Lotta Shakin' (SUN-Single)
Gonna spin some under the radar instrumentals that span a few years & both are equally excellent.
Jerry sure can play the piano in an unusually lively way!
1959/60 "Lewis Workout" > tight sharp rock solid build ups & fade + all get a workout...sweet!
Gets better with each listen...there's a lot of changes goin' on here & the urgent structure keeps it modern.
1973 "Early Morning Rain" London Outtake...keep with this one...killer scales on the keys & bass.
tbb can share this tune exhibits the real loose Mississippi Bass Sound of the Day that adds wild cred!
Note: If you think it sounds like a ride on a Freight Train in the Rain...(Correct) That's what it is!
1958 Breathless (1983 Punks X > This their 2013 Live R&R Dedication with Blondie's Debbie Harry)

A good read on the Killer here, TBB
Fascinating life. Wouldn't swap it for a million bucks.

That was a great read Stu. Wild life, lived to the fullest.

Vale DH Peligro. An integral part of my early drumming years included a lot of DK.

Sounds like a real stand up guy

D.H. PELIGRO: 1959-2022
"Wow. I sure wasn’t expecting this.
I feel like I’ve been hit by a train.
Despite all he’d done to his mind and body, I never thought we would lose him first. He was not just our powerful unforgettable drummer. He was a gifted singer, songwriter, guitarist and so much more.
Even behind the drum kit, he had presence. All animal instinct, he never played anything quite the same way twice. He was a born showman.
Clear back in ‘79, I got a hot tip on a new Clash-inspired Punk band called SSI playing at the Deaf Club. As great as those guys played, it was the drummer that stole the show. A free spirited African American force of nature (The Punk scene is always too white), with this shit eating grin, a bandana on his head, and two kick drums (!) singing his ass off to “Keep a Knockin”, even sounding like Little Richard, as they closed the show.
Then they disappeared.
In 1981 we needed a new drummer. Somehow Ray found that guy from SSI. Or maybe Darren found him, I was never sure. From the first song, he was solid. Good kick and snare instinct, to make the songs go.
At the second audition, he was the one who’d done his homework, so hands down he was in. Ray said he’d learned “In-Sight” from hearing it once in his car on the radio.
Now we had more fire and feel than ever before, and the rest is history. He made the whole band 10 years younger, including all the damn carousing and pranks. Throwing food at passengers all over the plane on the way to Australia, until the pilot came back and threatened to arrest him.
In Rome, he and I pulled on all these cables outside the window of a music label office, not realizing we were yanking all these peoples’ TVs off their balconies, and out of their living rooms. We laughed about a lot of stuff the other guys didn’t. We had our own unique bond.
Friends who saw DH with the Chili Peppers at the Hollywood Bowl said he looked so happy up there. He looked so proud. But it was not to be.
When he finally hit bottom, he went clear back to St. Louis to clean up. I was the one who flew out to see him when he got out of rehab. Another friend came down from Chicago, and blew our minds with our first 90 minute baptism of Wesley Willis!
A year or two later, I was in Chicago working on Lard, and Wesley came over. I called DH, and put Wes on the phone, not telling Darren who he was. When talk shifted to the dangers of high fructose corn syrup, I knew he knew. When I got the phone back, he was laughing his ass off.
When he came north to visit, he’d stay with me; and we grew closer and deeper than ever before. The other guys begged off, and didn’t want to see him. I thought we would truly be brothers for life.
He put together his own band, called Peligro of course, with him on guitar and vocals, using a lot of the songs from his 80’s Punk power trio, the Hellations. Their Alternative Tentacles debut is by far the best solo album by any of the ex-DKs. Like “Fresh Fruit..” gone Bad Brains, in the best possible way. He had now spread his wings as a full fledged leader and songwriter. But more was not to be.
I still think they could have become so much more when they regrouped, than a 20+ year tribute band. They could have gotten a new drummer, Jon Lieb, maybe; and made DH the new frontman, on vocals, second guitar, spice up his songs, and more. Aim high and do it right, with a new name, new sound, and a whole new identity. Like the class way Bauhaus morphed into Love and Rockets, post Peter Murphy.
That could have been such a good band.
Damn. I get goose bumps just thinking about it...
So I hope Peligro is up there somewhere, getting his headbutts from Wesley at last. Forever free from any hellrides from high fructose corn syrup.
With much love and respect,
Jello Biafra"

And the Cobra Factory. Fella went big.

Wow, sad to hear Kym died. My first custom board was one of Kyms. He was so good to me, little grom with a fistful of dollars asking 'how much for one like that one?', really took time to talk to me and make sure I was getting the right board. A real gentleman. Big loss.

Kym Thompson shaping royalty.
His Watercooled factory figures prominently is the Shapers' Tree of past and present great Torquay/Victorian shapers (I can't find the tree on the web but from memory it includes the best) - Stu??
Rode many of Kym's boards always great, when his Torquay business went to custard I moved onto Michael Anthony designs.
A very sad day and an end of an era. Rest In Peace. The best.

Also my first custom (not counting the disaster I tried to shape myself) He was very patient as I clearly had no clue. I was more interested in the number of fins - my first thruster - and the spray job which was a sick checker patterned red railed masterpiece. Strange, when I picture it and still get that excited feeling in my guts. R.I.P. Kim.

Requiescat.

R.I.P. Kym
My very first board in 1978 was a Kym Thompson single fin, I remember it like yesterday, a beautiful translucent green fin in its box with a straight grooved stainless steel screw. Beautiful white board with the WaterCooled logo just north of centre and with continuous green lines along the rails. I paid $65 for it at the time which was mega bucks. Why don’t i have it anymore, can’t believe i sold it, possibly to buy a HT Holden surf wagon. What i do remember is the beautiful craftsmanship. Boards made well back then.

Water Cooled shapers included (I think!). Maurice Cole, Greg Brown ,Michael Anthony as well as Kym Thompson. Maybe others too.

Now rockin in the big sky above- RIP Wilko Johnson

thanks for the update blackers, albeit sad news. The Clean were great, along with so many of the Flying Nun troupe.
interestingly just the other day I received a tape deck, and have since been voraciously listening to random selections of my many tapes, possibly the best music I have, some not listened to for nearly 20 years, still sounding good. Anyway, listened to one on Saturday, a classic mix I made when in grade 7, and was joyed to hear Beatnik again, still remember it getting solid airplay on zzz

So much came via Flying Nun. He was not all about sweetness and light, had hard edges and power too.
Glad you got a chance to revisit the tapes, every now and then I do the same. It surprises me how good some still sound after 30 odd years in the shed.

Goldie Punk / Ska ... Favs
New wave track by The Colourfield (Self Titled) is equally as brilliant as Echo & the Bunnymen.

2014 (Encore) Check this performance...man, is that Gold... Just keeps getting better..Right!

Hodads needed a little extra time to send off Christine McVie {R.I.P}
Open your Eyes and Look at the day.
You'll see things in a different way.
Indeed tbb did exactly that!
Christine quit lead role in Chicken Shack to join her husband's band as they often toured together!
Inevitable that Christine would sooner or later lead Fleetwood Mac!
All the best breakthru songwriting & Tunes revolved around Christine's cue!
Don't Stop > Hold Me > Lies were all super solid bankable tunes that kept the band relevant.
Each one Christine wrote & composed on Piano...
She'd bounce off ex partner then the rest simply look to follow her lead.
No doubt she is driving the bands progressive sound.
Can easily see & hear these songs as Christine's solo Piano Tunes orchestrating her backing band.
The band even agreed to follow Christine's winning breakthru formula as it won over new fans.
Here's the 3 top notch breakthru songs that kept the band together.
Hidden talent goes unrecognised as driver of the Band's success in reinventing itself
That's a pretty special talent to consistently compose relevant quality tunes during new wave era.
Reckon fans will note & reward her solo talents...took tbb a while to see things in a different way!

swellnet Drum Circle farewell Jet Black...drummer for The Stranglers
Goldie punk drummer salutes fellow crew for send off of Punk Pioneer.
Old Punk Rocker past away aged 84.
Jet Black experimented with drum styles but it's often hard to get footage of Drummers.
These vidz were selected to Feature Jet Black doing what he & we love so much...
Drummer tbb & others here may have seen The Stranglers...
Best to bring a fair rendition of that Live sound to his send off.
Plenty of different drum sounds...all brilliant...Vale Jet Black.
First up is a pretty good send off by Irish News Paper as Jet Black's Dad was Irish.
