Vaccinate or not

I was a little shocked at Alan Joyce (CEO Qantas) announcement that international travelers will be required to have a covid 19 vaccination in order to travel on Qantas flights . The government wanted to have mandatory vaccination but after the bumbling of its release ( it was painful to watch the delivery of that announcement ) they withdrew the mandatory part but it seems Qantas and other business may demand a vaccination in order to use their services. I’m not anti vaccine by any means I just don’t trust this government or a vaccine that has been rushed through. A jab followed by another jab followed by yearly jabs doesn’t sit well with me as I have never had a flu shot or the flu for more than 20 years. Plus I don’t want to give this shot to my healthy 4 year old daughter. She is up to date with all her vaccinations but this covid vaccine is new and not being around for decades like the others. Tuberculosis remains the number one as far diseases go and you don’t need proof of vaccination to travel so what is going on ?

Are the richer suburbs more educated?

There is a science show on Radio National called Science Friction. They have been speaking to 3 British doctors who have long covid. They first spoke to them when they were about 6 months in. Now, after 16 months of long covid, the 3 doctors provided updates.

Natalie (paediatric diseases lecturer). Since the previous week, she has started self-catheterising to assist with passing urine. She walks with crutches, has leg spasms, nerve pain, loss of feeing in her feet. There is a loss of neurological function and she is resigning herself to maybe not getting it all back. That is, having a permanent disability. She can work from home. Only treatment she is getting are drugs to reduce nerve pain. It appears the source of her problems are lesions on her spinal cord. Getting more tests.

Amy (GP) has been very ill. Feverish, brain fog, trouble walking, heart racing (tachycardia), breathlessness. Expelled from her partnership in a GP clinic because she couldn’t work. Still crying over this. High financial stress as her husband also has long covid. The problem seems to be with her hyperthalmos. She is still quite crook. Experimentally taking beta blockers which seem to be helping with her ongoing hyperthalmos symptoms. The beta blockers wouldn’t be at all useful for most covid sufferers. She is now getting some locum GP work.

Ian (amongst other things, president of the association of clinical pathologists) has disabling fatigue, pain, racing heart, muscle twitching, thick brain fog, left foot drop. Out of the blue, a doctor contacted him and said she wanted to run some CT scans on him because she is getting some long covid sufferers with similar symptoms. This doctor looked at the CT scan results and told him to come in urgently because he shouldn’t be alive. The scans revealed he had blood clots in the big vein in the brain extending down into the jugular. He is taking warfarin and he is starting to get some improvement in mental function.

All feel they can define the covid related medical processes that resulted in their conditions.

Why don’t you just grab the family and drive to the regions? Just got informed on the local grapevine that a bloke and his family did exactly that and relocated to this town. The lockdown doesn’t apply if you’ve got a holiday house somewhere more convenient.

Not sure what his plan is when someone like himself spreads it here too.

In the end everyone will make their own decisions about risk/reward.

I now know 5 people who have had Covid.

One old lady in a nursing home: dead within 48hrs.

Two people in their 30's (bro and sister in law in UK): she, bad flu for a week. He, really sick, almost hospitalised for a month. Still not a hundred percent.

Bloke and his missus in their 40's (USA based). Both moderate flu-like symptoms for a week. No lasting effects.

Simple really if the NSW premier stopped sydneysiders not in lockdown from travelling throughout the state at ease the Vic Govt wouldn’t have to do her job for her.

That’s been referred to the coroner, Don. Long gone are the days where it was believed healthy, young people were keeling over from Covid. Just cause the media would have you believe that a strong young man was cut down in his prime by Covid doesn’t mean there’s any truth to it.

But then again, maybe he was the healthy young person who died from Covid? Someone has to be that one in ten million chance I guess.

172 people have died on NSW roads since the year started. Those deaths aren’t as serious as Covid deaths I suppose. A fella I know died a few days ago as well…..didn’t make the papers. Australia averages 379 deaths each and every day, but…….COVID deaths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Craig Wednesday, 4 Aug 2021 at 12:37pm

Well Blowin, again simple stats, lets say half the pop who have a license are driving ever day, 10 million people are travelling around on the roads.

Now, cases are 1/10,000th of that, so you see you can't really compare those stats unless 10mil of the pop was getting infected.

If a person is in a car accident and breaks their leg and twelve days later they develop a lung infection and die, would it be counted as a death resulting from car crash? No.

If a person tested Covid positive and maybe had a slight cough and twelve days later had a heart attack would it be counted as a Covid death? Yes.

That’s where your statistics are coming from Craig.

“Definition of COVID-19 death
A COVID-19 death is defined for surveillance purposes as a death in a confirmed COVID-19 case, unless there is a clear alternative cause of death that cannot be related to COVID-19 (e.g. trauma). There should be no period of complete recovery from COVID-19 between illness and death. Where a Coroner’s report is available, these findings are to be observed“

For all we know the 20 year old fella in Western Sydney could have been a severely sick person in palliative care at home who died with Covid positive at the time of death.

here Blowin, an unvaccinated person makes a choice about his/hers personal health .....it's a choice. If you don't believe the virus is that bad and your immune system is more than capable of stopping Covid.....well that's a personal choice against the scientific evidence we have at the moment.
So if you choose not to vaccinate and get sick , call Pete Evans he'll fix ya up and then you are not liability on the health system....
An accident is an accident, the person was hurt accidently.....opposite to anti-vaxxers...who have made their choice and accepted vaccines are not needed.....

Brutus- An accident isn’t an accident. You’d know this if you’d ever had the misfortune of encountering an occupational health and safety worker on their turf. There is a hierarchy of controls for preventing accidents. The primary control is eliminating the hazard. Surfing is a hazardous activity as is drug usage. If you were to end up in hospital as a result of surfing or drug usage you are just as culpable as an unvaccinated person becoming ill.

PPE is the final and least effective control.

A nose guard ( PPE) may lessen the extent of injuries in a surfing accident, not surfing ( elimination) will entirely exclude the potential for a surfing accident.

The federal government has abrogated their responsibilities and cast them upon the population of Australia when they failed to implement suitable quarantine facilities. This would have eliminated the threat of the virus into Australia until the vulnerable were able to be either vaccinated or placed in a suitable place of care. The Federal Government has chosen to ignore their responsibility and instead forced exposure of healthy and invulnerable Australians to a vaccine with such serious side effects* that it’s killed more people in 18 months than every other vaccine combined has killed in the last 18 years.

Scomo is your killer. People are being trained to infight amongst themselves when the government is the enemy.

Jeez, with this kind of thinking I'm not gonna waste any more energy.

As Brutus said, if the hospitals get clogged with unvaccinated (by choice) and it impacts the rest of us tax payers who cough up for such first world facilities there are going to be serious issues.

Maybe by declining a COVID vax, they can tick a box saying they won't use the hospital systems if they get sick from COVID. That's a bit fairer eh..

Better not get hurt outside playing splash splash , Craig. You’ll be pushing a sick granny out of a hospital bed. Maybe you can tick a box saying that if you get hurt landing on your fins you won’t get medical attention?

The problem I have with that bloke dying at home in self quarantine is that with protocols used elsewhere around the world , his death could have been avoided . It seems Australian medical experts still has the self isolate and see how sick you get policy . Early treatment doesn’t seem to be an option and why is that ?
