The major cause of suicide amongst LBGT children is bullying. Being left to themselves is simply not an option in many cases. They are identified as different by their peers and very often targeted because of that. The "huge spike" represents the reality that has been repressed by a culture obsessed by the notion of a purely binary sexuality that biology exposed as fantasy decades ago.
So Blob, what are you? Police? Child psychologist? Paediatrician? Or just another narrow minded no nothing ideologue making life worse for the vulnerable?

You moderate any amount of abuse then go coy at the mention of gender or sexuality.
Why differentiate when any comments may lead to hurt feelings?.
More identity politics claptrap.

Blob's very first post ln this thread reminded me of a saying:

"It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it"

(Apparently the left are wrong about everything and the right is might who will save the world from the dreaded socialists.)

blob said,

"Obama got the Nobel 3 months into his presidency for a reasonable speech in Cairo after which he hyped the Arab Spring and withdrew support for Mubarak. After Mubarak was toppled came the Muslim Brotherhood who made clear statements of a wish to annihilate Israel. The Arab Spring also led to the horrendous Syrian civil war. With the Syrian debacle Obama's Iraq strategy also allowed ISIS to flourish. Obama/Clinton helped rid Libya of a repentant Gaddafi turning it into a lawless haven for terrorists. Obama sealed a deal allowing a nuclear Iran that may have led to a nuclear weapon in the hands of the Mullahs who had sworn to destroy Israel. Obama liked more drone bombs and less troops on the ground. Civilian casualties from drone attacks fuelled anger that fuelled the recruitment of more terrorists. Obama was a reasonable, peace loving leader who shrank his military and empowered his enemies. You never heard a negative word about Obama in the mainstream media."

The topic is about Trump and blob names Obama 7 times in the first paragraph.

In reply blindboy astutely points out,

",,,blaming Clinton and Obama because their attempts to clear up the mess created by Bush pere et fils were ineffective is either pure ignorance or a wilful distortion of history. Oh and are you going to argue this one through Blob or just jump to some other part of the right wing misinformation strategy?"

The next reply belongs to blob in all his hypocritical blob-ness,

"Blindboy. What has Bush's war got to do with Trump in office?. They hate each other.
Try staying on topic.."

Try staying on topic,
yea that'd be great.

As Ive said before, @blob, whatever they're paying you, it's too much.

Hi kids. What are u doing here?

This is an adult website, well adultish anyway. Shut it down now! and go and do your homework, or go find an age appropriate website.

Oh, you're still here. Good for you, I like a rebellious kid, but I warned you, so be strong!

Ok, so your confused about gender/sexuality. Possibly yours, possibly the tripe they're telling you at school. Don't worry we all are. Adults are actually confused about a lot of things, but we usually just put on a brave face, act like we know everything, and cling to our ideology in difficult times. Whats ideology you say? Google it slack arse, you're not in your molly codling school room now. Besides it's a complex thingymajiggy, that even adults don't understand...yes another one!

Anyway back to gender/sexuality. We just voted in gay marriage, generally seen as a good thing. However it has opened some rifts in society, and exposed some obvious inconsistencies -despite the fact we were promised pretty much nothing would change. Yes, that would kind of defeat the purpose...adults are weird like that,... they'll say anything to get their way.

So the rifts. Generally conservatives wanted to preserve marriage between men and women, and progressives wanted to open the door to gay marriage.

This debate has gone on forever, with generally, the argument being....are gay people born or made?

nature versus nurture basically.

Born; would mean it's God's work, or the will of the universe, the will of the gods, or random acts of nature etc. depending on your ideology (google it again, its subtle).

Made; would mean societal influences make people gay. Influences from family, friends, media, environment. Made is very complicated, with implications such as should we be doing this? How does this fit in with thousands of years of male/female coupling and procreating? Is it natural? - a bit of irony there. It would also open up cans and cans of worms about some very uncomfortable subjects that certain folk just don't want to talk about. I won't go into it, because to do so would initiate instant social isolation, which is not pleasant, as you may well know...

If you are feeling isolated, or seriously troubled by this stuff, please seek help, there's an abundance of it out there in australia, because - despite how you may feel right now - you are actually one of the luckiest people in the world. To live in such a wealthy country, with so much help available. Google it.

So back to it, how can this be so complicated when everyone is so confident of their opposing positions? And, how come these people above are fighting so nastily, so vehemently, towards each other, claiming they are the only ones who care about the kids?

Whilst they do both claim the other one is being dangerous or abusive towards kids, they actually do both care about you,...the kids. So don't feel weirded out or isolated by you predicament, people care, you are a wanted and valued individual. Because, both sides are actually wrong. About the other side being wrong that is.

Both sides do care about you. How can that be you may ask? Ideology my little pumpkin, ideology. Google it, again. it really is quite subtle, and perplexing. How people can be so self assured of their rightfulness whilst arguing such differing positions. Really odd stuff. That's adults for ya.

Anyway, back to the born versus made thing. The pro gay marriage crew went with the 'born this way' tactic. A smart choice, as it's much easier for the general public folk to accept this, because it's God's will, or natures way, or the universe etc. etc. all viable and reasonable positions.

It's also a smart move because you really don't want to open the door to the possibility that people can be influenced into becoming gay. Because this would undermine decades and decades of progressive dogma that has built up to counteract the eons and eons of conservative dogma that has built up. What is dogma? And how can both sides be so dogmatic about the other side being so dogmatic?
Ideology my friend, ideology. You know what to do...

Anyway, whilst the pro gay brigade tried to pass gay marriage by not talking about the possibilities and implications of nurture, a weird thing was happening. Part of the pro gay marriage bridgade (and their transgender associates) started talking about 'gender fluidity' and 'sexual fluidity'. No not that fluid. Concentrate. It's more the idea that these things are fluid, and therefore changeable. Kind of contradictory to what we'd all been lead to believe, but that doesn't matter - this is post modernism baby - anything is possible! Anyway they managed to keep this on the down low enough to get the vote through and everybody is happy.

Well not really, because now there's huge rifts about all sorts of details and implications. The original rifts, progressive detail rifts, conservative detail rifts, feminist/transgender rifts. Gender fluid/born this way rifts, sexual fuidity rifts. Rifts all over the place. Not to worry, society is messy like that.

But most people are happy...sort of...

But definitely don't you worry, none of this is your fault. It's just dumb adults being dumb adults. Fighting, arguing. Making mountains out of molehills, because people like to win, above anything else, they love to win, sadly...

But they do all care about you. They really do...well most of them...but please be wary of weirdos, there's still plenty of weirdos, of all descriptions...weirdos all around.

Just be good to yourself and be safe. The rest is bullshit.

The problem with media-run "conversations" on gender is not merely the almost total absence of male participants, but the suppression of class. It is tempting to say real politics are missing, too, but bourgeois boundaries and prescriptions are real enough. Thus, gender, like race, can be presented in isolation. Class is a forbidden word; and gender subordinate to class is heresy. The Daily Mail model is built on this.

Anyone talking about a gay "gene" is only demonstrating their ignorance of genetics. Very few characteristics are controlled by a single gene and complex characteristics, such as sexuality, would be controlled by a complex network of interacting genes.
Further, in virtually every characteristic studied the final phenotype is determined by an interaction between the genome and the environment. Just because someone is writing a newspaper article does not mean they know what they are talking about. The end result of this is if you really want to understand human sexuality, and most other aspects of human behaviour, you are better off reading good literature than trying to interpret the science. Literature is based on careful observation of real people so writers worked out long ago that sexuality is an individual characteristic and generalisations can only lead to misunderstandings.

Meanwhile back at the (ranch) White House Trump the criminal (awaiting indictment) sees his very long time personal lawyer (a very weak person) go down for a stretch for carrying out a crime ordered by himself.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-12-13/donald-trump-ex-lawyer-michael-co...

Of course there also this “National Enquirer's parent company admitted that it paid Karen McDougal $150,000 in an attempt to influence the 2016 election”

https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/ Great website WOTL your a legend

What must be a real concern for Trump the criminal is this “Michael Flynn asked to be spared jail time because of his "extensive cooperation" with Mueller.”
If Cohen got 3 years and Flynn gets nothing then Flynn must have provided "substantial assistance" hmmmmm

And then there is this “The incoming New York attorney general plans to launch a wide-ranging investigations into Trump, his family, and "anyone" in his orbit who may have violated the law.” That should keep the criminal awake at night for a while.

For the Trump enthusiast the good work continues “ The Trump administration plans to unveil sweeping changes to federal clean water rules that would weaken protections for millions of acres of wetlands and thousands of miles of streams against pesticide runoff and other pollutants.”

Seems like all roads lead back to identity politics at the moment, to the extent where some say that identity is actually the dominant conceptual force of our time.

And when Pilger (in 2013) says "the bourgeois media club relegates and distracts from the fact that a full-blooded class war is under way", he's not the only one.

In this podcast at around the 10.40 mark, it's argued that identity politics is just an obfuscation of class issues which have never gone away.

It's worth a listen, in my opinion Waleed Aly and especially Scott Stephens are excellent and with their guest Francis Fukuyama they give the notion of identity a thorough going-over.

Interestingly, you've got an Australian Muslim, an Asian American and a white fella all quite critical of identity politics.

"And I think that the failure of the Left over the last generation or more is their reframing of the class issue as an identity issue so that it’s just ethnic minorities or women that are the true victims and that white people as a category are privileged, which is empirically unjustifiable."

If from my post you think I'm searching for a 'gay gene' blindboy, then I'm sorry, but it is you that is the one on here suffering from poor reading comprehension and extreme prejudice more so than anyone else.

I posted that link because it basically admits we know nothing of where human sexuality comes from.

It also admits “...."born this way” — or that our sexuality is genetic — has become increasingly important. The mantra has become a political strategy, in particular for gay and lesbian communities, who see it as a way to protect themselves from discrimination."

Not just a mantra, but the ruse that the whole ssm debate was based on. But I don't particularly care about that. I care that queer theory, gender fluidity, and sexual fluidity have been accepted as solid enough to be taught to school kids across the country. When really, it pretty much only applies to females, and a certain minute cohort of females at that....

".... In 2006 for example, Linda Garnets and Anne Peplau presented research they described as a “paradigm shift” into female sexuality. Their research found that women’s sexual orientation is potentially fluid, shaped by life experiences and can change over the course of a life span. Of particular importance they found that female sexual orientation is “shaped by such social and cultural factors as women’s education, social status and power, economic opportunities, and attitudes about women’s roles.”

Sexual desire is due to a range of different factors — including biology, a person’s upbringing and education and social constructions at the time. Whilst female sexual “fluidity”, for example, can be linked to social acceptance of that idea (based on male desires) that one social construction does not tell the story for everyone. Our sexuality is due to a range of factors we not fully understand."

I don't dispute it. But its a pretty narrow view of sexuality that only applies to a minority of a minority. Yet this doctrine has been imposed on schools as gospel.

A desperate explanation, for incredibly complex matters, that pretty much only applies to a small amount of females at best, has been adopted across the board and is the main influence for policy regarding transgender kids.

I reckon we might be jumping the gun a bit...

John pilger sums it up best...

"...The problem with media-run "conversations" on gender is not merely the almost total absence of male participants, but the suppression of class. It is tempting to say real politics are missing, too, but bourgeois boundaries and prescriptions are real enough."

As I said, it's pretty much all bullshit. From all sides. And these poor kids are caught up in an ideological battle between two groups who don't even try to see the forest from the trees.

Sad times...

Syppo, I'm not surprised that these conversations involve an almost total absence of male participants; as a young lady told me at the Byron Writers Festival a few years ago "all men are potential rapists."

So why would you want men participating in conversations on gender?

Men are horrible, and as I keep hearing around the traps, white men are the worst.

sypkan you posted a link which talked about a gay gene and drew a false dichotomy between nature and nurture. From your statement about sex education in schools I assume that you have some experience in that field and are familiar with the various curricula and the teaching practices used. You might like to highlight the specific areas that cause you concern by reference to the relevant documents. They are all easily found on line. Accusing "schools" generically of unethical behaviour without evidence is unhelpful. In my, quite considerable, experience in this area the quality of teaching is now much higher and the content much more appropriate than in the past. It is based on sound biology, is sensitive to the developmental stage of the students and considers difficult areas with sensitivity.

I'm not "..Accusing "schools" generically of unethical behaviour" at all.

They're just the pawns in the distribution of some pretty loose theory that's coming from above.

Totally unproved material that is presented as facts, when the only fact is, that it's totally unfounded hence the term 'theory'.

Camille Paglia is a transgender academic. To say she isn't comfortable with these ideas influencing policy would be a gross understatement.

sypkan, you accuse schools of teaching students unproven material. I asked for an example. You haven't given one.
The definition of "theory" is "a widely accepted explanation for a large body of observations". So it is a very powerful thing. If schools stopped teaching theories they would have to stop using the atomic theory, the theory of evolution, the theory of plate tectonics etc etc.
I am confident of the material because I worked with it, an experience that also, leads me to have great confidence that the majority of teachers working in that area are highly ethical skilled professionals doing a difficult job often in difficult circumstances.

If you don't approve of actions based on scientific theories, you'd better not get on a plane. Aviation and aeronautics are all theories. Airplanes are theories being enacted upon, as are most modern technological tools.

The word 'theory' in science has a hugely higher burden of absolute proof then we would think remotely useful in normal life.

Blindboy Said: "Presumably you would be offended if people started referring to you with the incorrect pronoun so why should they put up with it?"

Sure, whatever, but there is no law stating you should be punished by calling someone mister when they are a missus, regardless of any proof of intent to demean them. Its Draconian.

And that is very very very different language than "poofter" or "poofter bashing" where there is intent to demean or intent to incite violence. So I see that the underlying factor which is crucial to clarify in freedom of speech is "intent".

Limiting free speech is definitely intertwined with totalitarianism, particularly from a historical perspective. In terms of mainaining a stable society, it is extremely relevant and important how much we are in other peoples business, and when we protect the rights of one person we don't arbitrarily limit the freedoms of another.

I've got no issue with teachers blindboy, most are doing an excellent job under very difficult conditions...with the material they're given...

And yeh, I'm well aware of the merits of theories. The thing is some theories are widely accepted, and some are the product of a bunch of ideologues pontificating from within a bubble.

Interesting you raise 'plate techtonics'. Einstein - possibly the smartest man to ever walk the earth - went to his grave vehemently arguing against plate tectonics. One can only assume the theory it replaced is now widely discredited...

So, with gender theory being somewhat radical to most people, and being radically not inclusive ie. It pretty much ignores any male input whatsoever (see John Pilger). One can assume something better is going to come along to replace it when we stop listening to all this non scientific post modernist theorists' rubbish.

Pity the kids that had their lives and bodies wildly manipulated.

These days most people don't give a shit if a boy is a bit girly, and vice versa. Thats a good thing.

To influence their upbringings with this very narrow view of the world, and to allow gung ho profit driven pharmaceutical companies and doctors the rights to inplement their experiments is reckless to say the least.

At the least, please please make it an over 18 year old thing!

Aaah I get it now, you are lining up with Tony Abbott, Miranda Devine and various other ignorant, narrow minded, homophobic ideologues, to oppose the SafeSchools program. The program was designed to create a safe environment for LGBT students when research showed that they were bullied at rates much higher than other students and had an even higher suicide rate than our shameful and appalling average for people of their age.
It is worth remembering also that gay hate murders were, only a couple of decades ago, very common and that they still occur. So we wait until they are all 18 to tell them that LGBT individuals are not in anyway abnormal, that they have occurred at similar rates in all known cultures over the entire period of recorded history and that, regardless of what those weird men in funny clothes say, it is not immoral. Fuck that and fuck you too if you want to maintain that level of ignorance. We are talking people's lives here, if you and the rest of the homophobes are so uncomfortable with your own sexuality that you are offended by the sexual practices of others, that is your problem, your inadequacy. So stick to your ignorant anachronistic attitudes based on nothing but fear and religious dogma if you must but maybe just keep it to yourself and don't spread the idiocy.

Its an unfair burden on the teachers and disappointing that its delegated from a familial setting where the parent or guardian has the responsibility to guide their children until they're 18.

And no wonder people are questioning whether the teachings are aligned with their own set of beliefs which they have a right to impart and educate their children with, even if they are conservative, even if they are homophobic.

Depends what you're hoping to achieve via impeachment AndyM. For me, the contempt for Democracy (freedom of the press, separation of powers between departments and legislators etc.) and his totalitarian orientation is all I care about, the rest is just left vs right and less of a risk to the status of individual freedoms globally.

BB, I really don't see "some of my best friends are gay, but they really shouldn't tell children about the reality of gender fluidity" being worthy of your response "ignorant, narrow minded, homophobic ideologues."

Well it certainly demonstrates complete ignorance not only of the biology but also the consequences of our failure to address it not only in schools but to the broader community also. This is not just about making life safer for the LBGT community, though that is important. It has direct consequences for all of us. By acknowledging that gender fluidity is real and has existed for all recorded history and probably well before, we also weaken the existing stereotypes around masculinity and femininity. This has the potential to make a huge improvement in some of our worst and most difficult areas.
The incidence of youth suicide is obscenely and shamefully high. LGBT young people are at much higher risk, but feelings of failure to live up to gender stereotypes is also a factor for binary youth. The same factors cause eating disorders and a variety of other mental health problems. Gender stereotypes also play a major role in domestic violence. So when people oppose programs that will save many lives and improve the quality of life for many more out of wilful ideological ignorance and their own sexual insecurities then homophobe is near enough for me. Cultures which deny reality do not thrive. Same sex marriage was a small step forward. Get used to it. There are much bigger changes coming.

Near enough is good enough eh BB? Once again you've got someone who is already essentially on-side with your general beliefs and you want to rip strips off them?

As for "get used to it" - what, you think I was opposed to same sex marriage?

No-one who opposes efforts to educate people about the reality of these issues is "generally onside with my beliefs". This is fundamental, like climate change, its opponents are denying the clear evidence that they are wrong. It is hard to come up with a greater problem for an individual or a culture than direct denial of the truth.
Oh, and you want some further objectivity. The podcast you put up was an appalling example of the commentariat getting together to reinforce their self-importance in high flown language while contributing nothing to the debate. Fukuyama might have had something to say if that plum in his mouth prat hadn't rambled on about his own views for way too long.

Never one of them fancy guitar things in the school band/Nuns could have them.

High School...
High School Books were whitewashed of Aboriginal Photos/Text.
I never heard an Aboriginal story of our town or yours in 12 years of Schooling
History today omits convict ship as 1st landing in Moreton Bay.(Just the Heroes)

Biology books where x-rayed by censors for any genitalia/fetus diagrams.
Geography Books had removed text on Qld Soil Erosion/Land degradation
Goes without saying Political education was banned under our Dictator .
Kidz tried to smuggle in own real life books/Record Swaps all were confiscated.

I signed up for Business class & Home economics. Next I was manhandled out.
You see Typing & Budgeting was little woman's work. I was made the fool.

1970's Get your hair cut ,get your hair cut... Each time I point to our saviour.
Lecherous Teachers had many pet schoolgirls back in the day...no issue there.

However tough it was Gays had it worse still. Banned from own bedroom romp.
Think about it! Only a peeping tom cop could make an arrest.

Read the News: Church is immune from State Law so gays lose either way.
Gay dismissal then 50 years on you win case & Pastor still walks.(Royal inquiry?)
Only fair way for all is to ban Religious Schools from any town that has a child.

By commentariat, do you mean three highly intelligent, highly educated people with a significant amount of life experience?

I suspect that you think they've contributed nothing to the debate because they don't believe the post-modern Left is beyond reproach.

Funny that.

And let me get this straight - you don't like what someone's got to say because of the way they speak?

And you don't like a discussion because it uses "big words"?

You sound prejudiced and you sound like a bigot.

Grab a dictionary, you might learn something.

I'll say it again, you seem like a regressive ideologue.

And almost certainly a hypocrite.

Sounds like you've had a bad run truey. There is no doubt that many so called religious institutions would not know Jesus if they ran into him and He would certainly give them a mouthful if He did. He ripped into many religious leaders when He walked the earth, the same type as now run the Vatican and other very profitable organisations. Remember it was the jealous priests who had Jesus crucified. It is also true that many conservative politicians like Trumpy say one thing and live another life altogether which is a shame. I hope he's trying to straighten up and sort his head out, but it may be too late for him. If you talk the talk and walk the walk, you are worth listening to and we should all remember that in our own lives. We are all guilty of failing our own standards sometimes I'm sure we will all admit. I have been involved in the Christian church and charities for 35 years and have had a really good run spending time with all kinds of amazing people who do great things for society as Jesus said to do. I've come across a few imposters out for their own ends but fortunately not too many and they usually get caught out. I also admire God inspired people who have advanced surfing so much, especially the Christian Shapers like Al Merrick, Eric Arakawa, and Johnny Carper. Tom Curren and Bethany Hamilton are also good surfing examples of a true Christian life, who like to be kind and gentle souls to others. Its such a shame that many in the past whether by ignorance of Gods true character ,or just plain corrupt imposters have given God a bad name to many people. Don't be manipulated by peoples noisy voices, call right right and wrong wrong, you know in your gut what's natural and pure and what's bent and corrupted, so follow your gut and call it as it is.
