Yes I agree, the real estate in the US has shown some serious weakness lately. But the supply there is on another level. There are many new houses/estates in Florida that have no buyers. It will only get worse with restrictive immigration policy.

Jeez, someone needs to tell all the business writers and editors, including those at the ABC, that high levels of population growth contribute nothing to house prices.
He's right of course, we all know that negative gearing and the CGT discount are the heavy hitters but to deny the effect of demand in the form of high levels of population growth is retarded.
In any case, how can you call yourself an environmental party and not say a word about our infinite population policy?
They need to grow some balls and find out a way to have a mature conversation about population and at the same time distance themselves from the racists.

How Long Would It Take For Housing To Become Affordable?
Let's imagine for a moment housing price growth was reduced to 2% & household incomes grew at 3%.
Let's stack the deck in favour of a positive outcome, rates are cut by a further 1.35% & repayments at 35% of gross income is considered affordable.
Under these conditions the median Sydney house becomes affordable for the median earning Sydney household in 2111.
It's not a typo, it would take 86 years.

Justin Hemmes has apparently bought a block of Byron land on Jonson Street for $50 million, and is said to be spending $20 million building a new venue along the lines of the Coogee Pavilion.
Hemmes also bought the (vacant) Cheeky Monkeys backpackers bar for $13 million. And in Vicco, picked up the Lorne Hotel for $38 million.
Sydney developer Podia paid $18 million for the Byron Bay Backpackers on Jonson Street. The old Woolworths (opposite Cheeky Monkeys) also sold for $120 million to the Mustaca family and they're building a new four-star hotel.
Stu Laundy recently bought the Lennox Hotel for $40 million and The Farm for $16 million.
Last year, the Byron Bay Beach Hotel sold to investment bank Moelis Australia for $104 million.
And, media reports a few months ago said that both Hemmes and Laundy were in a bidding war for the Pacific Hotel at Yamba, with an asking price of around $50 million. Dunno if it sold though.

Buyers were apparently Scott Didier, founder of ASX-listed building company Johns Lyng Group, and Scott Emery, founder of ASX-listed online lender MoneyMe.
From the above list, the Byron Beach Hotel sold in 2020 for $104m.
It sold again a few days ago for $140m.
That's a nice $36m profit in five years.
Oh, and it was bought by Scott Didier, who was part of the group that bought the Great Northern a few years back for $80m.
