Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 25th November)

Best Days: Friday morning

Recap

Nothing to start off the weekend but a new swell filled in yesterday, offering fun waves across Clifton. Today there were still fun sets on offer with all day offshores.

This week and weekend (Nov 26 – Dec 1)

I hope you made the most of yesterday's and this morning's surf as there's only one significant swell on the cards for the period, and that's late week.

A slow moving and not overly strong but favourably tracking low will form south of WA tomorrow and project a fetch of W/SW winds through our western swell window, weakening while broadening and pushing across us Thursday.

A moderate sized W/SW swell should be seen from this source, building Thursday and reaching 2ft+ later in the day, easing from a similar 2ft+ on Friday morning.

Winds on Thursday will be an issue with a morning W'ly breeze giving into S/SE sea breezes, and then N/NW tending S winds on Friday. EC actually has a small trough and onshore winds all day Friday, but we'll keep a close eye on this.

Longer term the outlook becomes much more active as a strong node of the Long Wave Trough stalling just east of Tasmania sees a flurry of strong polar fronts projecting up and just west of us from early next week. This should produce plenty of swell that may have a a bit of west in it, along with wind through early-mid week.

We'll have a closer look at this in the coming updates though.
