South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 6th March)

Best Days: Tuesday for keen surfers at magnets on the Mid Coast, Wednesday morning South Coast

Recap

A little bit of swell around Saturday morning across the South Coast but with onshore winds, smaller and choppy Sunday. The Mid didn't offer any relief with tiny waves Saturday, flat Sunday.

This morning the South Coast offered a bit more size with a junky onshore S/SE windswell to 2-3ft, while the Mid was a tiny 0.5ft. A new swell due later today is showing on the Cape du Couedic buoy (0.5-1ft on the Mid), so hopefully we see some inconsistent 1-1.5ft sets for the late session.

This week and weekend (Mar 6 – 12)

Later today's pulse of groundswell is the first of two swells generated in our far swell window, and then south-east of West Oz late last week and over the weekend, with the surf sized due to hold tomorrow before fading Wednesday.

Middleton should see inconsistent 2-3ft waves with 1-1.5ft sets on the favourable parts of the tide across the Mid, easing back Wednesday from 2ft+ and 1ft respectively.

Conditions will slowly improve for the South Coast with a lighter but still average E/SE breeze tomorrow, better Wednesday morning with a light E/NE-NE breeze.

Thursday is looking a little dicey with smaller surf and a light S'ly wind, possibly variable early, but we'll check this Wednesday.

Later in the day Thursday and Friday morning a new pulse of S/SW groundswell is expected, from a small intense low tracking east-southeast along the polar shelf.

The swell will only be small with 2ft+ sets due across Middleton later Thursday and Friday morning, while the swell will be too south for the Mid Coast.

Unfortunately it looks like we'll see S'ly winds lingering in the wake of a shallow change Thursday, strengthening Saturday as the trough deepens over us.

With this a solid junky S'ly windswell will develop, although with no quality.

Longer term there is some better groundswell on the cards for next week but with poor winds continuing down South. More on this Wednesday.
