South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 12th February)

Best Days: Protected spots down South tomorrow morning, Mid Coast Monday and Tuesday, South Coast keen surfers Monday morning

Recap

Poor and sloppy small waves across the South Coast yesterday with clean workable 1-1.5ft waves on the Mid.

Today lighter winds provided cleaner conditions across the South Coast, best suited to Waits and Parsons while the Mid puttered along in the 1ft range. A new SW swell is due this afternoon and the Cape du Couedic readings are building slowly, but not to any significant size as of yet.

This weekend and next week (Feb 13 - 19)

South Coast: This afternoon's increase in SW swell should reach 3ft at Middleton and 4ft+ at Waits and Parsons late in the day as a shallow S/SW change moves through, with a drop due through tomorrow from 2-3ft and 4ft respectively with clean conditions again under a morning W/NW breeze ahead of an afternoon SW change.

Unfortunately Sunday will remain average after Saturday's change with fresh SW winds and a low point in swell through the morning ahead of a new S/SW groundswell through the afternoon.

This swell from a strengthening low to our south-west has been downgraded a touch further with Middleton expected to only reach 3ft+ into the afternoon.

Of greater importance is a better SW groundswell pulse due into Monday morning as a better aligned front moves in on the back of the low and works on top of an active sea state.

A moderate sized SW groundswell should be seen to 3-4ft+ across Middleton and 5-6ft at Waits and Parsons. Unfortunately winds are due to remain onshore but only moderate from the S'th Monday, creating OK conditions for keen surfers.

A secondary pulse of S/SW swell is due into Tuesday from a similar but slightly more southern cold front pushing towards Tassie early next week.

This should keep 3-4ft sets hitting the Surf Coast with 5ft+ sets at Waits and Parsons but with a stalling low in the Tasman Sea we'll see persistent onshore S/SE winds creating poor conditions.

Mid Coast: This afternoon's SW groundswell should kick to 1-1.5ft on the Mid and ease from a similar size tomorrow, with 1ft waves through Sunday, kicking to 1-1.5ft into the afternoon.

Monday's better SW groundswell should offer better 2ft sets on the favourable parts of the tide, persisting Tuesday with favourable morning S/SE winds and afternoon sea breezes.

A drop in size is due through the end of the week, so make the most of Monday and Tuesday.

Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards but we'll have another look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
