Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 5th September)

Best Days: Thursday afternoon northern corners, Friday

Recap

Small to tiny and easing levels of S'ly swell yesterday, while today we've got the start of our N/NE swell event with early light winds which are now onshore from the N/NE.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Sep 6 – 9)

Today's small increase in N/NE windswell is linked to a strong mid-latitude front moving in from the west, squeezing a stubborn high in the Tasman Sea, resulting in the generation of a strengthening N/NE fetch down our coast.

As the front moves closer tomorrow, winds will continue to strengthen and extend north off the southern NSW coast, with an elongated fetch of strong to near-gale-force N/NE winds developing through tomorrow, reaching a peak overnight.

With this we'll see building levels of N/NE windswell through tomorrow, reaching 4-5ft+ or so into the late afternoon along with fresh and gusty N/NE winds.

The W'ly change is delayed a little and this will result in more size being seen Friday morning, with clean though rapidly easing surf from the 4ft range under a moderate to fresh W'ly tending variable wind.

Come Saturday there isn't expected to be much left in the way of swell with clean 1-1.5ft leftovers.

There's then nothing significant on the cards for the rest of the period unfortunately so make the most of Friday.
