Watch: XL Jaws

It's only the third swell of the season that's been large enough to fire up the Maui big wave spot, and like the others this was more mid-range by Peahi standards. Videographer Marcus Rodrigues called it "around 10-12 ft with bigger sets."

The usual crew got the bests sets, flirting with the barrel on their 10ft+guns.

That must have been mostly the “bigger sets”

The disparity is hilarious. The Woz would breathlessly claim that as being 25ft.

10-12 feet....sheesh. I get the hardcore Hawaiian thing - but a wave face that is 5-6 times overhead on a 6 foot person....just getting silly?
I missed an opportunity - after a Cloudbreak trip and the Hawaiian surf guide called the clean up set 8-10......I should have come home, stood at the local and told everyone it was 6 times over head.....

Full props to KK for constantly sending it but she must have a make rate of about 1 in 20.

10-12 foot? That must mean my biggest wave ever must struggle to have been 2 foot.

It seems as if the term "feet" just represents a term of measurement that doesn't relate to the imperial measurement. So if it's 10 foot Hawaiian, it's really 10 Hawaiian, the foot part no longer means or represents anything. It may be easier to say Hawaiian size 10, or Hawaiian 10 rather than 10 foot Hawaiian. I still judge waves in terms of Hawaiian, can't help it. I remember going over a HUGE set at shark island and asking the local legend next to me how big it was. Hi response... "I dunno, 6 foot?!?!". That is still my understanding of 6 foot, it was probably a 15 foot face.

'The Woz would breathlessly claim that as being 25ft'. And so would everyone else. But heh, worth a cheap shot at the Woz regardless.

Nah, don’t agree. Qld surfers maybe but could almost guarantee WA Vic and SA surfers would say that’s a long way from 25 ft

When are they going to fly one of those drones through one of those barrels to give us an inside perspective ! First one to do it gets the XL drone award !

I always think this and if I had one, my aim would be to get one barrelled and spat out. Thing is, any wrong line/loss of communication in the barrel? would spell the end of the drone..

Yes it could be an expensive mistake - but if some one like red bull could offer a good prize for first person to pull it off it might make it worth while.

If this discussion about men making dubious measurements doesn’t wake Gary G from his slumber, I don’t know what will

Do 10ft waves even break at Peahi?
