Elouera Boardriders win Triple Bull Cronulla Gromtag Qualifier

Elouera Boardriders have won the Triple Bull Cronulla Gromtag Qualifier at North Cronulla Beach and will go into the 2018 Gromtag Australian Championships as No.1 seeds.

In very small and wind-swept conditions Elouera (63.13) finished ahead of Wollongong’s Scarborough Boardriders (50.17) with host’s Cronulla Sharks Boardriders (41.97) finishing third and the South Coasts Southbridge Boardriders (25.13) fourth.

The junior Elouera team of Reiss Young (10.80), Nathan Rohr (14.90), Jarvis Earle (16.30), Blake Sawtell (12.00) and Maxime Rayer (5.13) went into the final undefeated winning both their Quarter and Semi Finals earlier in the day. In the Final Elouera had to come from behind after Scarborough’s Josh Pepper (18.67) and Darcy DeClouett (12.07) put the Wollongong based Club in the lead after two surfers by six points.

Mid-way through the Final Elouera’s third surfer Jarvis Earle stepped up when needed posting an 8.50 on his first wave and a 3.90 on his Powerwave to put Elouera on top and the Dunny Hangers never looked back going on to win by over 12 points.

Fourteen-year-old Earle was Elouera’s highest scorer in the Final (16.30) and was one of the standout surfers on the day, “We are stoked to get the win, all the team surfed really well”, Earle said. The lightning fast goofy footers 8.5 in the Final was one of the longest waves of the event, “I just saw this little wave pop up and I grabbed it and it just kept going all the way through to the inside and ended up being a really good wave. Our team manager Glen Pringle just told us to enjoy the final and catch two good waves”.

Scarborough’s Joshua Pepper handled the small surf with ease posting big scores in each round and locking in the highest score of the Final – 18.67 to win a pair of BOSE Wireless Headphones.

Sandon Point Boardriders will be at the top of the reserves list for a spot at the Gromtag Australian Championships after finishing in third position behind Elouera and Southbridge by 0.24 in Semi Final No.1. Ulladulla Boardriders will also be hoping for a late call up along with Cronulla’s B team and Jones Beach.

Elouera, Scarborough, Cronulla and Southbridge will now join Curl Curl, North Shelly, North Avalon, Long Reef, Snapper Rocks, Burleigh Heads, North Shore and D’Bah at the Gromtag Australian Championships scheduled to be held at Curl Curl Beach, Saturday 24th November.

A bit of travel involved for some of the teams. Hopefully I will get my banner made in time for the championships. Jarvis looks like a little me, goofy too.
