Very serious allegations from Spud & JP , why haven’t they approached local police and reported their findings ? The reality is he has as much concern for indigenous children as he did for refugee children, the blokes a dead set c#nt .

Really good move by Dutton to go up there especially with Jacinta seems like he has been up there for a while?

Also really good move to talk to real people on the street, indigenous and non indigenous, instead of organisations that will just put any spin on things they want.

Albo going up for 3 hours then spending three days at the Tennis was a complete joke, that should have had much more media focus.

Does he have evidence of specific cases of child abuse and if yes, has he forwarded those cases to the local police authorities so investigation and appropriate action can be taken? No point bragging about it in the media unless he took those steps. And if he did and the authorities did nothing he’s got every right to call these issues out. Reporters asking him details about it are doing their job. It’s unbelievable that this needs to be debated.

RE the spudernator and his No mission:

"The NT police minister and prominent Aboriginal Territorians have reacted angrily to Peter Dutton’s claims that “young Indigenous kids are being sexually assaulted on a regular basis” in Alice Springs, saying he should report any wrongdoing to police for further investigation.
Kate Worden, the police minister, told reporters on Thursday: “What we’ve seen over the last couple of days from Peter Dutton in central Australia is absolutely opportunistic, political game-playing, and using the most vulnerable people here in the heart of our nation as a pawn in that game. It’s quite frankly, a dog act.”
The opposition leader, who is on the second day of visiting Alice Springs, described the law and order problems in the town as a “travesty” and repeated demands for the government to send in federal police.
“There are stories that we’ve heard today as we’ve walked the streets about the dysfunction, the desperation of young Indigenous kids who are being sexually assaulted, still, on a regular basis – that hasn’t stopped,” Dutton told reporters on Wednesday.
“Nothing has changed from when I was here in October. The same stories about break-ins, about stolen cars, about risk to human life, about the sexual assault of young boys and girls. It’s still exactly as it was then, and this community can’t wait.”
Worden went on to say Dutton “has had no interest in Alice Springs for 10 years”.
“A couple of months ago, we saw him fly in and out of Alice Springs and make completely baseless claims around child sexual abuse in Alice Springs,” she said.
“None of the evidence substantiates his claims – and in fact, here in the Northern Territory, I’ll remind you Mr Dutton, that we have mandatory reporting for child sexual abuse. In fact, child abuse full-stop.
“If Mr Dutton has evidence of these claims that he’s made around child sexual abuse in Alice Springs he needs to come forward and he needs to give evidence around the things that he’s claiming.”
The Labor senator for the Northern Territory, Malarndirri McCarthy, also called for the allegationsto be referred to police.
“I would ask opposition leader Peter Dutton, if you are aware of this, then you need to mandatorily report it to police so that there can be an investigation immediately, and if you have not done that, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy said alcohol-related family violence, assault and attendance at the hospital had dropped dramatically since the NT government reinstated alcohol restrictions in January.
“So I would urge the opposition leader to not use Alice Springs as a political football with irresponsible accusations if they cannot be followed up.”
Lhere Artepe, which represents Arrernte traditional owners of Alice Springs and manages several businesses in town, said it had not been invited to speak to Dutton on any of his visits to the town.
The Lhere Artepe chief executive, Arrernte man Graeme Smith, said Dutton’s comments were “insulting”.
“Where’s the proof?” Smith said. “We’ve heard all this before. Reading between the lines, if kids are being abused, then what’s he calling us? This is what we heard during the intervention, and we all know that the intervention was cooked up overnight. This is the same narrative I’m hearing from Dutton. Where’s the facts? It’s really insulting.”
Smith said he could not see “any reason” for Dutton’s visit to Alice “other than to campaign against the voice”.
“So if he’s coming here to consult on the voice, who is he consulting with? His mind is already made up,” Smith said.
Dutton was asked by reporters on Wednesday why he had not met with Smith or anyone else from Lhere Artepe. Dutton said he had been “speaking to people on the ground; shoppers in shopping centres, people who are having their businesses boarded up, people who are actually living in the community and aren’t afraid to speak out”.
But Smith said Lhere Artepe owns three IGA supermarkets in town and manages a retail store in the main street.
“We own much, much more business than the people he is speaking to, and so if he’s speaking to the business sector, he is forgetting that Lhere Artepe contributes over $20m annually to the economy of Alice Springs, and employs over 200 staff across our enterprises,” Smith said.
“Not only are we native title holders, we’re a major contributor to this economy.”
Smith said as an Arrernte man he wants a voice to stop the “chronology of failed policies” in improving the lives of Indigenous people.
“The politicians have screwed us and made the wrong decisions. If they’d made right decisions, we wouldn’t be in this position today. That’s why we do not want politicians to represent us no more. We want a voice so that we can advise politicians so they don’t keep getting wrong.
“I think Australia has woken up. We’re a little bit older now. And who would not want 60,000 years of recognition on their nation’s birth certificate?
“I think this party and Dutton are gonna be on the wrong side of history,” Smith said."

There is a mandatory legal obligation on Dutton and Price to report any knowledge of child sexual assault, whether direct or indirect, to Police under NT law. They didn't do that, because they don't have any. That scare campaign failed, dismally. So today the memo appears to be to to sow fear that the Voice will cancel Anzac and Australia Days, expect to see a lot of "discussion" about that through the LNP propaganda pipelines during this news cycle. Tomorrow there will be another heap of bullshit disseminated . This shit is going to continue right up until the referendum. All designed to create a political defeat for Albanese and the ALP. It won't work. The Voice referendum will succeed. Then the rats inside the LNP will start eating each other and replace Dutton with another corrupt idiot like Angus Taylor. Sussssan Ley will put her hat in the ring but won't win because she is too stupid, and a woman, they can't have that. The ALP will get another term, maybe more. The LNP will have to "go woke" and move back to the center to remain viable or it is all over for them. Suck it up Indo.

Editorial
Dutton’s grift This is the grift. Peter Dutton flies to Alice Springs and says they should send in the federal police. He meets with a white bakery owner who is concerned about crime in the town. He says there are no consequences for “kids and adults”.

He says that child abuse is “accepted as normal practice” – a sly phrase that means exactly what it seems to mean. Asked for evidence, he says he’s not interested in what academics and bureaucrats say. He has spoken to local police.

“How can those little children continue to be abused, how in our country can we allow that to be commonplace?” he says. “It’s unacceptable.”

Dutton made the same trip in October. That time he called for a royal commission. He held a stricken press conference. He made gross generalisations about culture and abuse. “In modern Australia we respect cultural sensitivities and Indigenous connection to Country, but the rights of the child are above culture and sensitivities,” he said afterwards. “We all sit in this place knowing that child sexual abuse is widespread in Indigenous communities and, in some cases, it has become normalised. For too long we have been silent and supine.”

The grift works in two ways. First, it allows him to campaign against the Voice on his own terms. He sets out a problem and decides the Voice would not address it, ignoring every other problem the Voice might help fix. It is a rhetorical trick: take something broad and undermine it with something specific, distract with anecdote, mention children.

The second part of the grift is more insidious. It rests on the racist trope of “normalised” abuse, the lie at the heart of the Intervention and the Stolen Generations. It says: these people are not like you, these people hurt children. In the context of the Voice, it says: these people can’t be trusted with their own babies, why should they have a say in policy?

Listen to 7am
The Northern Territory minister for Police says Dutton’s claims are baseless. Crime rates are down since January. Traditional Owners say Dutton has not met with them. They say his claims are insulting.

Of course, Dutton has not met with Traditional Owners, because he is not interested in what they have to say. His trips to Alice are for show. They place him far enough away from Canberra to pretend that he is talking from the “real” Australia. His evidence is nameless: people in shops, people on the ground, people boarding up businesses.

This is how Dutton has fitted up debate his entire career. He never named the families who were too scared of African gangs to dine out in Melbourne. He never named the paedophiles he claimed would use medevac laws to reach Australia. The cornerstone of his politics is a vague, criminal other. The point is not the details. The point is fear, especially the clinging, vine-like fear of prejudice, the fear that is waiting for any encouragement to overgrow decency.

The Voice is one answer to this kind of politics. It is a chance for people who actually know what is happening, and actually care about it, to say something. That, at the end, is what Dutton fears most.

It’s any one’s guess who’s going to take over from spud. I don’t think birmingham wants anything to do with becoming leader until he can see a possibility of LNP winning an election which could be at least a decade or more away . That’s if they don’t completely fold as a party …… Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has seen his support fall to its lowest level since he took on the role, as his net satisfaction rating dropped six points to minus 19.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s satisfaction rating also took a dive, going from 21 to 16.

Mr Albanese still leads as preferred prime minister 54 per cent to 28 per cent.

The latest Newspoll was conducted between Wednesday and Saturday, as debate continued on the upcoming Indigenous Voice referendum, and as the government prepares for the federal budget. https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/politics/australian-politics/2023/04/24/...

Those polls are kinda irrelevant in the current environment. Dutton has zero chance of achieving any success and if the election was held today he would probably lose more seats. His strategy is shocking, out of 1,000 different battles he could pick he decided to polarize indigenous issues. He’s completely unsuitable for leadership and the sooner he’s gone the better.

AndyM's picture

Nah let him stay there and bury the LNP.

Here's an article with some interesting points in it.

"Newspolls over the last few months show Labor and the Greens with a combined support of 67%.

The Greens alone (24%) outpoll the Coalition.

By contrast, among voters aged over 65, the L-NP has 46% support (to which may be added 7% for One Nation), compared to 34% for Labor and the Greens.

As more Gen Z voters become eligible and older voters pass on, every percentage point shift in the population translates to a 0.4% swing to the left. That implies a gain of around 2% every electoral cycle.

The problem is primarily one for the Liberals. The political Right remains strong in country Australia. But the Liberals have lost badly among young urban voters, with the result that they now hold hardly any metropolitan seats.

Yet far from changing policies to attract younger voters, the Liberals have shifted to the Right. On a string of culture war issues (climate change, trans rights, religious schools) the Liberals have entrenched themselves on the losing side.

What would the Australian political system look like without the Liberals? The most likely outcome in the short run is something like what has happened in France since the rise of President Emmanuel Macron — a centrist government (Albanese Labor) balancing a combination of Left-wing Greens and Independents on one side and a Right-wing rump on the other."

Still not sure about calling Labor centrist but it's a thought provoking article nonetheless.

@andyM , I hope he ( spud ) stays there but sooner rather than later he’s going to get shoved by his unelectable team . I do see Labor being right of centre these days and there is plenty I’m not happy with . It’s a big list that needs fixing and won’t happen all at once that’s for sure . Next budget is going to be interesting.
