Interesting stuff

Wow thats crazy, decent beachies there now when swell?
I lived about a kilometre from there about twenty years ago for a bit, use to surf the bar whenever it broke, heaps of potential and occasionally you would get a good one but was a kunt of a wave so hard to be in the right spot.

Had a few pretty alright surfs out there this yr. Surfed somewhere else in the last cyclone but some mates said the bar wasn’t really holding the swell on the Sunday morning, which was the big morning with a nice light northerly, not sure if they were bullshitting..!
Hmm I was living at moffs 20yrs ago.

I walked over to Nth Bribie yesterday evening at 6pm low tide. Through the channel it was knee deep on yesterday evening’s low. It’s ankle deep around the outer eastern bank.
Walked down to the new entrance. Looks set up for a left but it’d have to have a north swell maybe more so than the old bar. Wonder if anyone checked on that first pulse of Gabrielle.

When do we get the interview with Torren ?

He’s back on top

After many years of keeping the media at bay - but not social media of course - Kelly Slater has lately been doing the rounds of the non-endemics.
You may have seen him appear on a video for Wired magazine answering questions from Twitter such as "why do surfers use wax?"
Today, he's appeared in another video, this time for Conde Nast Traveller, wearing exactly the same duds (obviously not a reversible Outerknown shirt) telling non-surfers about Hawaii.
Curiously, about a month ago Slater's people contacted Swellnet for an interview. I registered interest and, as requested, sent them a list of questions we'd be asking, also telling them who'd be asking them. They were all softball questions; interesting but miles away from anything controversial.
Then, despite them contacting us for an interview, we got turned down for the interview.
Like a driver who pulls up and asks for directions, then disputes the answer.
Anyway, it was all very confusing....actually, no it wasn't. It was mildly bemusing, especially to see the media that is getting a pass mark from Slater's people.

"Like a driver who pulls up and asks for directions, then disputes the answer."
Haha.
He obviously doesn't want the hard questions from the likes of you Stu. Has nothing to say, more about expanding his market I spose.

Wouldna been me asking them. I put Steve's name down as the interviewer.
Maybe that explains it.

Must be scared of the 'Outsider"

Most likely a deliberate strategy of courting mainstream puff pieces to keep Slater elevated as a marketable sports icon and put pressure on WSL to gift him wildcards if he fails to make the cut.

Reckon if he put on a few more kilos he'd start looking like Jason Stevenson.

Or sell some more boards (or both). Here's another recent post. He's ubiquitous.
&t=2s

He's full of shit. Legendary surfer for sure but I never thought of him as some intelligent person.

Imagine having been in the publics eye for 40 odd years and still being this desperate for publicity

Trying to improve his online content, presence and image after getting splashed across the net as a nut job conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxer etc.
Drowning out the negative publicity and content with new online content that has increased and prioritised visibility and exposure in the search engine and social media algorithms.

Yep.
Definitely a PR offensive.

I'll have my people get in touch with Slaters people and see if we can find out what's up.
I wonder if he peruses the SN articles and comments.?

Ha ha that Kelly and Swellnet thing is weird, im sure you guys would have asked him some very good questions, not this throw away trash stuff above
I like Kelly and his surfing but he aint perfect he clearly has issues as we all do.
Im going with gsco theory of a bit of rebranding but freeride76 might be onto something too.

Saw that and Twitter not dead yet either.

Nope, not dead any time soon. And plenty of cash in the pocket to keep it running for a long time. Especially with the newly established low-cost base (as they got rid of deadwood). Although many people here want it to go bust I'm afraid it will not happen. Musk got the formula right; Twitter brings the worst out of people and it's a massive and easy dopamine hit so they won't give up on it. All he has to do to make it profitable is let it loose and maintain it at a minimum cost. He's on the right track in that regard.

Speaking of algorithms...social media is definitely pushing Kelly my way. Here's another dated about week ago. I actually learned a new term...."mucoid plaque." Eeew. Skip to around 1.17 if you wanna be grossed out by Kelly's fasting info.

Goofyfoot. How’s things? Getting any of the waves of late ? Kids News, now thats my level. Interesting little article. I was looking at the percentages cast by residents, 40% wanted intervention to address the sharks deaths.WTF. Leave the biological world to itself it doesn’t need us.
Speaking of kids, your little 4 year old had a birthday in Feb. Has he or she shown any inclination towards the ocean and possibly surfing on some little device ? All the best.AW.

Hey Alfred, yeah pretty full on article to have on kids news you think? Oh well, they need to learn about that stuff at some stage.
Couple of waves here and there, looking good over your side this week. Might head over Wednesday if the forecast holds up...
Yeah the young one is keen to get in the water. I'm just being mindful though of turning him off. Last time we went he got tumbled by a couple of mini white wash waves on the shore and that was the session over ha ha. Got a second hand 8 foot foamy off gumtree and he's content to just lay down on that while i push him along.
The first father & son G-land trip might be a few years off yet!

Goofyfoot. Good stuff. I made the mistake of over encouraging my son who is now 21. When he was 12 or 13 and showing he could handle the ocean, with good water ability, I stupidly paddled him out to 4ft surf at 13th one day in Spring, he copped two decent set waves on the head, got rag-dolled and paddled in and argued with me the whole way home. No longer surfs, the board I’d purchased for him no longer in use so i offered to buy it back, hows that I actually forked out twice. Lesson to be learnt there ‘dad’.AW

So that was his surfing career over?

I’ve never heard of this happening from a commercial operation. Sunny Coasters get your extra strength fruit? beer while it lasts

Someone ought to do us all a favour and recall every disgusting fruit beer produced in this country. I’d rather drink warm vb

Emu Export.

Had a beer with my son at the pub yesterday arvo while we waited for a towie. He orders a schooey of Matsos mango beer. Oh the shame. To add insult to injury I paid for it.

Did a recall happen at Emu VJ?

Who needs extra strength fruit beer when you can get this now?
https://www.drinkstrade.com.au/victoria-bitter-goes-extra
How's this for extra strength?

Too tough to ever be recalled seeds. It's the essence of the West.

icandig that is funny.
VJ I’ve never had an Emu Export. Are they any good? Here in Queensland it astounds me how popular Great Northern beer has become. It is seriously the pits. I rather drink hot VB, as Durutti said, than that insipid swill.

Emu bitter is on par with VB it’s definitely an acquired taste as is EE .

Mate up here loves his Melbourne Bitter. I stick to Coopers geen red or stout. Don’t mind an Asahi or Singha when at a restaurant.

Knock a few reds back all arvo huh Seeds.
That why you were creeping around stalking me on here yesterday?
Those reds do pack a punch and can make crew pretty obnoxious...and weird.
Maybe time for a break...or stick to the mids.

Nice! I agree with this, I know a lot of Europeans who come here and absolutely love it.

Looks like he is spending a lot of time pulling cones. Not sure how reliable the $15k is.

Yeah adding up the going rate and 50 hours a week = 16k earnt.
So only spent 1k on living expenses in 3 months? That's $333 a week and he said he paid rent with his misses of $300. So maybe split, leaves $150 a week to live off..

Yeah tell the frog he's dreaming.
Said he pays rent and has a car. What does that run on , sunshine and rainbows, and how much did that set him back? And if he's renting he must also be paying for his own food. Doesn't remotely add up.
I think he's just farting in our general direction.

I did a month on $250 + bills probably around 4-5 years ago. My wife and kids left to visit my in-laws so I was solo. I wanted to test myself to see how frugal I can go. I could do it again although I would need more than that as things got more expensive. But not too much though, I reckon I could pull it off with $350-$400-ish.

Minimum wage is $21.38
Casual loading is +25% = 26.72 per hour
x 50hrs = $ 1336.25
12 weeks @ 1336.25 = $16035
And he says he saved $15000
He hasn’t mentioned his tax yet
I would guess he has a hot partner who can get paid well for ending things happily and he gets to keep most of his $16000 -less tax
Or maybe he’s scyting about making only
$1500

When i was younger i worked as a landscape gardener was only getting $17 a hour from memory about 30K a year, for about a year i tried to be as frugral as possible, no drinking, no eating out, not even buying lunch, lived alone in a caravan in a caravan park, i saved about 17K (from memory just over a year) the money was what got me into the real estate market.

Did he say how much he's earning? I didn't actually see it anywhere.

Isn’t fruit picking paid by how much you pick ? Edit ………my mistake I see now he was earning minimum wage.

A great story Indo.
Have it cunts
