Sensationalism...

From the journalist who HRC was talking to: "While it perhaps sounded like @HillaryClinton refused to rule it out, my take is she was basically implying she wishes she were president but doesn’t relish running again.”

Very different from "the Democrats fielding Hillary".

There was some religious docco on TV last night I'm not sure why but my wife asked my four year old daughter last night if she believed in Jesus like her cousin (who is from a crazy born again christian family)

I was quite happy and surprised when she said without a second thought No.

Mum then said, i believe in Jesus but daddy doesn't.

I then asked her if she believes in Santa Claus, to which she answer yes.

My wife then asked why she believed in Santa Claus but not Jesus.

My daughter then said i saw Santa Claus at the shops and he brought me presents at Christmas.

OK Blob , so Christ ,"does not fit a Globalist/Nationalist box ?"......So Jesus / God did not want to spread the word of God Globally?
God allows free agency , but we are all sinners?
New Testament era Christian Communalism and the Kibutz are exceptions to your idea that "responsibilities and rights of individuals and family are better than the leftist emphasis on the collective?"......a family is a collective , to be a Christian is a collective , and anyone who believes in and worships Jesus is in a collective !

Capitalism is fine when it works , bur greed usually brings it undone as per the Great Depression , the GFC etc.....then the socialists have to give money to the capitalists and bail them out...Just like Trump has been bailed out with 4 x chapter 11 !

I don't pretend to know all the answers to your very confusing answers/Questions , but I do know that when people try to use intellect to prop up shaky beliefs , that the argument is lost , and confusion reigns , which is what the enemy desires.

Trump does not show any Christian moral values , his actions speak louder than his empty words, he worked out very early in the piece , that all he had to do was say he would put in anti abortion Supreme Court Judge and the Christians would follow blindly anything else he said or did....thats why there's no wall , no locked up Hilary , America was already great , and now lets watch what his policies do to the financial markets , and the divisiveness of his Presidency does the the American people ....looks like a slo motion train wreck.....for the USA and the rest of the World....

I thought I did show how I see man as separate from nature.

We alone are children of God
Our bodies are natural but unlike animals we have moral agency
Creation (nature) is for our experience and education
Man acts. Nature is acted upon.
We are to care for the planet.

Are you getting a distinction?

You still didn't answer my question.
How does socialism encompass Christ's primary teaching - obedience to Gods laws?.
Socialism is mostly Godless, or even anti religion these days.
Jesus is not a socialist because Jesus is anything but Godless

You say when capitalism failed in the GFC the socialists had to bail it out.
Where did the socialists get the money for that?

OK Blob , you made your points but from a very Godless point of view , as it's very obvious that we are all humans , lambs of God , sinners , and by all I mean ,from a Global perspective , not a nationalist view.
Can you imagine God sending Jesus into the Middle East , so his word and law was to be kept there??
I know lots of socialist's that are Born again Christians , who believe that we are all equal in Gods eyes , and to thy neighbor as you would yourself.....I think that's your political bias towards the left , who try to philosophically share , and not hoard!
So you take the philosophy from the nationalists / capitalists and try to justify , thru God , that a wall between US/Mexico is great , America First is greater , mysoginist behaviour is really really great , but greatest of all is your concept that individuals rights and responsibilities ( and Families ) are more better than the collective , which I think is just your way of sying..can't logically answer!

As for the finances , ever heard of the Federal reserve lending $700-800 Billion to the USA Govt , you do know about the USA Budget deficit , and the term credit?

Don't get upset lads and don't panic, the world is a crazy place at present and to see who are the leaders in some countries makes you drop your head in disbelief. In all of the well over 200 million people in the mighty USA, all they could come up with is Donald. I often wonder how many incredible and intelligent men and women , who love and serve their community, who are brilliant in business, great at diplomacy but have no money like Donald or no Saudi backing like the Clintons are not able to run for the high office. Perhaps not just the U.S., but all of us should stop looking toward the people who yell the loudest and choose as leaders those quiet achievers whose tree is loaded with good fruit. Maybe we should be asking some of those Australians of the year, or Americans of the year to consider running as leaders, no money required...just wisdom and sound judgement ...pick conservatives who are squeaky clean, environmentalists who have actually planted a lot of trees and are still busy doing so. Its all about the balance. I think you need conservative types who get on well with non communist social types who get on with environmental type people and all respecting each others opinion. Everyone can get on if they stop trying to enforce their opinion on others. I have been a Christian for around 40 years, love to talk about God whom I love very much and the big picture as well, but I will never criticize another person for what they believe, or enforce my opinion upon anyone. Its fun to see where people are at in conversation, people say don't talk about religion and politics, but talking about surfing and footy is kinda only interesting for a while. I like to talk about earth spinning around the sun at 100,000 KPH . Keplers law of harmonies amazes me but so does a tiny blubber as it cruises past me in the sea. Everywhere I look I see design and maths so who is the designer?...does he have a visible Son who has visited us?...great stuff!...So lets all choose leaders carefully and wisely, whether they have money or not, lets look after our home planet starting in our own backyard and spreading out from there. Plant some trees, grow some vegies, turn off some lights, generate some of your own power. Lets keep our criticism of others to ourselves and if not happy, do something about it peacefully. If you hate someone and fight with them you are the same as the war mongers who have the big guns. Don't let people tell you how you should live, how you should run your school etc, how you should think. Freedom I think, is Gods greatest gift, if your a believer that is... but even if you don't...embrace it and never give it up.

Christian Socialists?
Good for them.
Some strands of socialism grew from within Methodism and Catholocism.
I did say I think God is happy with any form of government to the degree that it conforms to His truth......but I don't buy your simplistic 'Socialism is for the poor, Capitalism is for the rich' cliche.
The way I read history Capitalism has helped the poor more than Socialism.
The way I read data, conservatives are more charitable than socialists.
The way I understand fairness, the socialist goal of flattening out wealth means taking from the one who earned and giving it to the one who earned less....by compulsory or criminal means.....isn't fair.
I think you are misinformed on the facts.
I'm not defending every rort in the free market system..... I think rorts should be stopped.
You seem to me to be arguing that socialists are better Christians than Christians.....but from my perspective you are wrong on Christianity and economics.

Great post optimist! As an atheist I have a different view on the wonders of the universe but it is great to see such a balanced religious view so well expressed. In terms of politics there are huge barriers to people of goodwill getting elected here, and they are much much greater in the US. To be elected sanitary commissioner of Bunkum County costs more than most people can afford. To stand for any elected office with significant power requires significant wealth, think billions. The US is effectively a plutocracy. The Relublicans are the party of short term self interest. The Democrats of longer term self-interest. In so far as the Democrats support policies that improve social conditions it is only to ensure the stability of their investments. So Republicans ME ME ME, Democrats ME and my kids and grandkids.
Another barrier to reasonable people entering politics is that most people with any sort of ethical standards cannot cope with the lies and hypocrisy. To be pre-selected you must appease the appropriate faction which will almost certainly involve saying, and voting, for things you find abhorrent. But all that aside, have a great day!

My only concern is that they don’t sound radical enough, as that is what is required to fix this problem, based on their 4 core principles. I don’t believe in slowing down the problem, I believe in reversing it. I have already conceded though it’s all but impossible. Australia 250 years ago, or peril, is pretty much how I see it. -Well said optimist.
A poem springs to mind
God's Grandeur
By Gerard Manley Hopkins

"The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings."

This poem was written well before "man's smudge" became so big as to cause today's assault on nature. Let's sincerely hope that nature is" never spent" although its not looking great at the moment.

More of an Eliot man myself ... if you want to go all religious

“The Eagle soars in the summit of Heaven,
The Hunter with his dogs pursues his circuit.

O perpetual revolution of configured stars,

O perpetual recurrence of determined seasons,

O world of spring and autumn, birth and dying

The endless cycle of idea and action,
Endless invention, endless experiment,
Brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness;
Knowledge of speech, but not of silence;
Knowledge of words, and ignorance of the Word.
All our knowledge brings us nearer to our ignorance,
All our ignorance brings us nearer to death,
But nearness to death no nearer to GOD.
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries
Bring us farther from GOD and nearer to the Dust.”

The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight; somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Simplicity
When I was a young man, my only wish
was to teach my children to catch a fish
for them to see beauty and hear all the sounds
of Gods creation all around
for them to ride upon the waves of the sea
to consider others and not "Just Me"
and while I'd watch them out at play
I'd feel all complex and led astray
Like somewhere back there I'd taken a turn
that deep in my soul created a yearn
a yearning for the simple life
away from the crush of tech and strife
"Become as a child" my Jesus said
and that same saying still rings in my head
and becomes my truth on a daily basis
as I paddle out into my oasis....

The Little Boy and the Old Man

Said the little boy, ‘Sometimes I drop my spoon.’
Said the little old man, ‘I do that too.’
The little boy whispered, ‘I wet my pants.’
‘I do that too,’ laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, ‘I often cry.’
The old man nodded, ‘So do I.’
‘But worse of all,’ said the boy, ‘it seems
Grown-ups don’t pay attention to me.’
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
‘I know what you mean,’ said the old man.

Take this to heart Blowin before you criticise major poets

'Tis hard to say, if greater want of skill
Appear in writing or in judging ill;
But, of the two, less dang'rous is th' offence
To tire our patience, than mislead our sense.
Some few in that, but numbers err in this,
Ten censure wrong for one who writes amiss;
A fool might once himself alone expose,
Now one in verse makes many more in prose.

       'Tis with our judgments as our watches, none
Go just alike, yet each believes his own.
In poets as true genius is but rare,
True taste as seldom is the critic's share;
Both must alike from Heav'n derive their light,
These born to judge, as well as those to write.
Let such teach others who themselves excel,
And censure freely who have written well.
Authors are partial to their wit, 'tis true,
But are not critics to their judgment too?

You miss the point Blowin. There is a huge difference between saying " I don't like it." and "It's shit". The first is acceptable on the basis that we all have different tastes, I like Tool, you like the Bee Gees, that kind of thing. The second is an artistic judgement which, unless you have had a secret life as a significant poet, you are not entitled to make. I hope it is not too much of a shock to you that your opinion of poetry is only that, an opinion.
"Let such teach others who themselves excel."

Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!

Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Remember us—if at all—not as lost

Blow king to beggar and queen to seem

what if a keen of a lean wind flays

Blow hope to terror; blow seeing to blind
