Over 2023 one outbreak of covid in an aged care facility I visited regularly. Some staff caught it. Two residents tested positive. The facility took precautions but it would have been around the facility for a while. After two weeks or so it was back to normal.
If it did not have a name or a test it would have been business as usual the whole time.
Only two years ago there would have reporters outside the facility speaking in hushed tones of an outbreak, epidemiologists would have been recommending a city wide lockdown and "heroic" Premiers with big salaries would have complied.
Was it just a bad dream? Seems that way sometimes.

If you read that Vic pdf I posted, the very last chart is cases/hospitalisations/deaths
You can see that July 2022 was the last time they bothered with accurate cases, as the cases are miniscule for a similar amount of hospitalisations and deaths in Jan 2023.
Hindcasting (sources of error might be lethality of different variants, better treatment, but...) if Jul22 had about 80,000 cases per week for about 1500 hospitalisations per week, then now with about 300 per week that's 16,000 per week on a rough approximation?
Are the cases per week, or per day? I remember 50,000 a day or more reported.
Also, what constitutes a hospital visit: is it admission to a ward, or ED visit and discharge soon after?

Hey TBB, that article and headline was about reducing immigration down to pre-Covid levels.
It was not about an influx of Covid in Asia, it was about the number of people coming into Oz, which reduced to nothing during Covid years and has been ballooning since the gates were opened again. Immigration back pressure.
Yes, Covid, the disease, is around in numbers in Oz at the moment, but all of us have had exposure now, from getting Covid or getting vaccines or for most people, both.
Until a particularly nasty variant comes along it’s just a disease which gets passed around now, trying to find its preferred season.
But for those who are immuno-compromised, or have other health issues, it’s probably a good idea to keep wearing a quality mask in crowded situations.
