It’s a bit of a thing in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. I’d never heard it until my wife pointed it out one night, and then I heard it regularly, but not always. Conditions have to be right.
Years after first hearing it I found there had been an article about it in ‘The Beast’, a local free mini-mag that gets around these parts, I think monthly. Can’t be all bad, it includes a page of tide times for the month.
It is so low you can’t hear it with other noise about, so usually it’s noticed at night when you wake in the weird early hours, but it’s definitely there, it definitely ain’t in our heads, as both of us hear it at the same time. It does sound like an underground boring machine some far distance away, if you had to put a name to it.

If these people who've just noticed the plane contrails the last few years (have always been there, just depends on the state of the atmosphere if you'll see them or not), had one look at the global sea surface temperature drivers at play, they'd realise slithers of ice crystals can't make much of an impact at all.
There is some dimming from contrails but there's no chemtrail conspiracy crap.
Cloud seeding is done in certain locations to enhance rainfall but it's very inefficent.

VJ, I saw a documentary on global dimming a number of years ago (sorry have forgotten it's name) that postulated this to be the case in US when all flights were grounded (except for the odd Saudi) post 911. The veracity of the the doco's information I never confirmed, but an interesting proposition nonetheless

Hey goofy yes we did, about 5pm a small amount came over, cooled things down, heavy rain falling straight down. Then it got hot and muggy again into the night, and then the main bit of rain came through about 5am with wakeup for work time. Rain gauge is pretty full, you guys should get this main bit I would think?

Objective
Fake news represents a particularly egregious and direct avenue by which inaccurate beliefs have been propagated via social media. We investigate the psychological profile of individuals who fall prey to fake news.
Method
We recruited 1,606 participants from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk for three online surveys.
Results
The tendency to ascribe profundity to randomly generated sentences—pseudo‐profound bullshit receptivity—correlates positively with perceptions of fake news accuracy, and negatively with the ability to differentiate between fake and real news (media truth discernment). Relatedly, individuals who overclaim their level of knowledge also judge fake news to be more accurate. We also extend previous research indicating that analytic thinking correlates negatively with perceived accuracy by showing that this relationship is not moderated by the presence/absence of the headline’s source (which has no effect on accuracy), or by familiarity with the headlines (which correlates positively with perceived accuracy of fake and real news).
Conclusion
Our results suggest that belief in fake news may be driven, to some extent, by a general tendency to be overly accepting of weak claims. This tendency, which we refer to as reflexive open‐mindedness, may be partly responsible for the prevalence of epistemically suspect beliefs writ large.

- risk of being ostracised from the group (silence or disagreement on group determined injustices is violence) so you are controlled by the group
-roadblocks to free discussion and thought everywhere (can't discuss that, can't say that - toxic, lateral violence - walk on eggs shells unless the theme is approved group think)
- have to do mental gymnastics to argue and defend viewpoints that are not logical or are just weird
- wake up in the morning depressed cause so much is wrong in the world
- must fight everyday - no pauses in battle, can never win
- jokes and humour are dangerous as someone light be offended - no release valve
- too much emotional triggering and manipulation to keep mental balance and sense of happiness.

It’s well known, everywhere except Chicago it seems, that every type of battery performs worse in the cold. You’d be a nut to own and drive one in a Chicago winter.
