'Cos SA is scrambling round for anything - even a nuclear dump - before it turns into Flint, Michigan. Oh, and because to go nuclear is expensive and shit.

Regardless how one views nuclear, if you are really concerned about climate change then you would have to review nuclear (supplying about 12% of the worlds electricty). If you are prepared to listen to Dr Finkel and / or Dr Hansen then nuclear has to be on the agenda.
Well maybe let SA have a nuclear plant and Vic can use it as the backup - as opposed to the current design.

incorrect, nuclear is cheaper than renewables. perhaps less so for australia that is inundated with sun and wind for such a tiny population, bit even still true for us

why do you think china is push ahead with nuclear so strong. because its cheap, and reliable. a bit like coal.

do we need it. i dont think so. at least not on a mass scale. but we may be forced into it somewhat when china conveniently raises the prices of PV products when they realise we are screwed by future climate change targets that we have no hope of ever meeting

Ahhh good old Finkel is brought into the conversation...... Let's go back to September, shall we.....

http://www.swellnet.com/comment/524165

The next step will be "we have no other option but to go nuclear".

So congratulations all you anti coal people.... Well done.... Bitching and farting as 1/2 of Papua is torn down, as the amazon is shrinking.... Carry on..... Nothing to see there.....
I'm sure nuclear will fix everything..... Our streets will be lined with gold, everyone will have too much work, and in fact we'll be able to take in more boat people coz employers will be screaming for more workers... It'll be a golden age, full of happy people and placid climate.... Summer will be warm and winter will be cool..... Gentle snow will fall on Mt Hotham..... Cyclones will only be cat 1.... Every month will have just the right amount of rain and sunshine... Oompa loompas will sing as they carry radio active drums of sludge deep into the dreamtime caves......

happyasS Saturday, 10 Dec 2016 at 12:23am

ok, sing with me now.....

no caves....get it...right.
we're storing it....above ground.
hold your breath, you'll be able to see
SA light up from the......moon.
count to three,
its gonna be
a sight to behold.

come with me
And you'll be
In a world of
Pure imagination

The climate change mania has come exactly at the same time as the foretold Beginning of Sorrows prophecy (for now) from Matthew 24. Same with the anxiety and depression we see in youth now. The truth will set you free JC once said.

From the ignore what they sayand instead watch what they do department, here’s those Climate Warriors at Atlassian building a 40 story concrete, steel and glass SUSTAINABLE building in Sydney.

Despite bragging that their employees can work remotely from anywhere.

File this one next to Barack Obama lecturing on rising sea levels as he snaps up beach front property, Al Gore encircling the globe in private jets for three decades after shitting his nappy about fossil fuel use and Leonardo DiCaprio cruising the seas on a 150 metre Super yacht between whining about the state of the planet.

Best also put it alongside the ALP virtue signalling their incorruptible dedication to reduced emissions and environmental protection as they increase the Australian population by millions every few years.

Climate Change Danger!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Dude
Perhaps U are being a bit harsh ?
By building it out of concrete ( not wood ) , steel ( not straw ) and glass ( not see through plastic ) the building will last 20+ years .
That meets my definition of sustainable .
Kerry ( US Climate Supremo ) needs his jet ( and boat and beach house and lots of nice cars ) as he flys around so much doing his work .

I have flown in a Private plane from Melbourne to Barnbougle . A Jet would have cut the travel time dramatically .
It is also handy having your own plane . No waiting in lines and it leaves whenever U want .
We should not consider Private Jets to be a luxury , imo .
For the rich and busy , they are a necessity , everyone aspires to own one , naturally .

Ah, DSDS. I missed this, another fine misconception.

Atlassian are building a new type of construction, it is a CLT construction (cross-laminated timber).

Not only will it be the most sustainable high rise building, it is a proof of concept for future construction. It will be a model for future construction methods.

But DSDS never let the facts get in the way of his delusions.

Go well DSDS, wherever you are. You pretty much made this site a no-go zone for me.

It’s mostly a toxic bilge pump in the forums these days, and you were right there, the protagonist’s protagonist.

Ol’Batfink- The original surfer with hips wider than his shoulders. .I was just thinking of you today whilst watching an Indo fella burying seaweed on the beach under the hot sun and believing it was the worst job in the world….that’s before I remembered that title is taken by Batfink’s gynaecologist. Glad to see you still have time to represent the viewpoint of the pasty and pudgy corporate pen pusher stooges out there. How’s those sessions where you can’t generate enough paddie power to catch any waves working out for you?

Anyway.

The oldest structures ever built are made from mud brick or stone construction. They last a 1000years when built correctly.
There is zero reason Atlassian needs a high concept high rise construction. They are in IT. They could build multitudes of single storey mud brick buildings anywhere that there is cheap land.

Instead , Atlassian is building a massive inner city phallic symbol to represent the ultra nerd’s virtue signalling so that Fan Boi urban kooks like yourself can get moist panties and overlook the basic fact that this building is first and foremost a PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT investment by someone already richer than god. It’s got absolutely fuck all to do with sustainability or saving the environment. It’s all just a public relations myth for witless urban clowns like yourself to think about when you’re pegging each other.

The most sustainable thing Atlassian could do for the planet is to immediately shut its operations. Atlassian is a profit making venture for a pair of billionaires that the world does not need. It’s superfluous to the continuation of humanity or the planet.

Batfink- You’ve got a home in the Eastern suburbs and a holiday home indulgence on the Central coast. Your carbon footprint is second only to Taylor Swift. You displaced young locals seeking a home in the central coast community they grew up in so you could bog rails at a different beach a few times a year. You have nothing to add to any conversation on society and sustainability.

Uggh. Nothing worse than a weak stupid person who thinks that passive aggression is sophisticated repartee instead of just plain bitchy insults. Unfunny bitchy insults at that.

Now is the part where you bleat about toxic people getting personal in the forums. Mince on missy.

Ha ha. Slack jawed yokel is a defender of Blowin. Based on his writing I’d say it isn’t him though. So how sad would you have to be to come on here and defend the indefensible?

But he knows all about me. Carbon footprint of Taylor Swift! Wow. Got me there.

The, ummhhh, holiday house on the central coast was built by my father-in-law 70 years ago in an area that had 2 other houses at the time. It was built by chopping in half an existing house in Sydney somewhere and transporting the two halves up here. Nobody got pushed out. I laugh at calling it a holiday house because all I ever do is come up here and work, but that’s another story.

But you go. Do your worst. Someone comes on here and tries to destroy your myths with some facts, then you really should respond with personal abuse and numpty attacks.

As an aside, I’d imagine my carbon footprint is pretty low on the western developed nation index, but who really cares.

There are flame wars and culture wars to promulgate, and why not pollute a surfing website with my confected culture wars, that I got from Facebook, which were seeded by Dark Money from people who are immensely wealthy and genuinely believe that it is their god given right to do whatever they want, to make money, even if it will cost the earth.

So slackjawed, are you Blowin or some pathetic ring-in? I’m saying no, unless Blowin has been on some meds/therapy. But as I don’t post much on here anymore you must be an old timer. How many aliases have you got on here? Why multiple aliases? What is the deeply hidden secret that requires multiple aliases? Have you been banned from here under other aliases?

How pathetic would you have to be to have been banned from a surf website because your forum postings are so full of bile and discontent?

Baty

I was banned from posting on a site 2 , for posting 2 much bile and discontent , 2 .

It was a bit of a wake up call 2 but I did not feel pathetic , just a bit ashamed of myself , after reflection and then moved on , as I always do .

I was off that site for a long time but , 4 a number of reasons , I joined under a different alias .

I didn't try and hide my old identity but also never advertised my reenlistment .

Probably not the first to make a mistake and try for a comeback .

I always applaud anyone , having a go !

DudeSweetDudeSweet

As you are full of it regarding climate change.

Please feel free to provide us with all your evidence that there’s no such thing as climate change.

I’ll give a starting point, go find the current global graph of CO2 emissions going back to the start of the Industrial Age , then we can talk turkey.

Timber buildings will be a major part of future super structures for society especially ones involving the use of cross- laminated timber.

An excellent example just finished in Geelong, Victoria, Australia is a multi storey government building and a true testament to a better future for the environment.

Alas, concrete will always be with us, what an invention, you purchase it in a plastic state and then it becomes rigid .

Sadly, 5% of all energy used on earth goes into producing concrete, but, the better use of extractive industries raw materials is rapidly improving and new products such as hemp and other fibres combine to eliminate some of load in the environment.

I think you need to do some real research before you flap at the mouth, just because you know fuck all about a subject doesn’t mean that what you purport is true and correct.

I love educated people but I love uneducated people better, especially when they want to become the former. AW

Hey AW

Interesting subject , how Earth and our climate has changed , over the millennia .

Interesting that U are zeroing IN , from just the Industrial Revolution and the increase of man made CO2 , 2 .

Such a small moment in time and piece of our Climate puzzle .

563 ? AD was an interesting time/piece in our Climate puzzle , 2 .

Another small part of the Epic Story that has another few billion years to play out :)

Say I was living up in North Queensland , and just had a nice little boat and surfed and fished the Great Barrier Reef and never talked to anyone ( lol ) until today .

Was told we have a Climate Emergency due to CO2 and that the Earths Climate has changed .

We are all spending Trillions to slow down the emission of the gas .

Ok , I hang up and go surfing ( a cyclone swell ) .

The reefs are perfect , water is crystal clear and I score and catch a lobster for dinner .

( The MOST recent Report of our Great Barrier Reefs ( 3 areas combined ) shows it's the BEST in recorded history ) .

I think the Cyclones haven't been 2 bad the last 50 years , water levels look similar ( always changing ) , it's always hot , I have a huge tank of diesel , veggie patch is fn thriving !!! , mangroves and crabs are still there and my mooring is still nice and safe .

I would probably go 2 sleep thinking that the city folk worry 2 much .

That no wonder I don't chat 2 them .

Then think about the surf and catching a coral trout for tomorrows night's dinner and fall off into a blissful sleep .

I hate humidity so that story is a full of shit , alert !!!
