So, as this trough/low slides southwards, conditions will rapidly improve. First on the Sunshine Coast (early Saturday), then the Gold Coast, and so on as we traverse along the Northern NSW Coast.
The whole synoptic pattern surrounding this developing trough and possible East Coast Low has been stalled by a day or so. This means we’re looking at building swells and mainly dodgy winds on Saturday, with a peak in size on Sunday and a better chance for improving conditions.
South swell magnets the go tomorrow for a S'ly groundswell. Inconsistent but persistent NE swell for next week, biggest Monday and Tuesday.

New swell for tomorrow with onshore winds in the South West, better swell Friday with S/SE winds. Cleaner Saturday ahead of a large new building SW swell Sunday with onshores. Peak in swell Monday with improving winds, best Tuesday.
Peaky fun waves tomorrow down South with a cleaner swell Friday. Good swell for Sunday morning with offshore winds across both coasts. More size next week with winds from the western quadrant.
Smaller surf with winds from the northern quadrant over the coming days. Better swell from Tuesday next week with improving winds for the Surf Coast.

At this stage, Friday looks like starting off very wet, wild and wooly in most regions with gale force E/NE winds and a large storm swell in the 6-8ft range. However, there is every chance that we could see a rapid about-face throughout the day - particularly in SE Qld and Far Northern NSW - with winds veering southerly then south-westerly. If this happens there could be some excellent and sizeable (although roguey) waves about the coast.
