Recap

Tiny surf continues with 1ft or less of swell, tending to weak NE windswell today and NW winds.

This weekend and next week (Jun 17 - 23)

OK, the continent is covered in high pressure, now drifting out over NSW into the Tasman and right across the swell window we’ve got very placid sea states leading to a continuation of small, weak surf. Approaching fronts and a trough lead to freshening NW winds over the weekend.

Looks like the strength of the N-NW flow across Bass Strait will generate some small NE windswell wrap for Sat - up into the 2-3ft range during the day at open beaches under fresh NW winds.

Size then eases back Sun as winds tend more W’ly through Bass Strait. Expect a few 1-2ft leftovers Sun morning quickly easing back to tiny/flat.

Into next week and we may see anther brief flush of N-NE windswell Mon morning as off axis NW-N gales extending from Flinders Island to Gippsland whip up some surf. Expect surf in the 2-3ft range Mon morning under stiff W/NW winds before size eases to tiny/flat during the day.

Flukey, off-axis fetch should generate a small flush of N-NE swell Mon AM

W’ly to SW’ly winds are on offer Tues as a front pushes through, tied to a low approaching SW of Tas. This low tracks NE into the Tasman, weakening as it does so.

We should see a small increase in S swell Tues, in the 1-2ft range at S facing beaches, extending into Wednesday with winds tending NW again Wed.

We may see some NE swell develop Thurs into Fri as N’ly winds freshen across Bass Strait in response to an approaching front/trough system which may form a low in the Tasman. We’ll pencil in 2ft of swell Thurs, extending into Fri morning and see how it looks on Mon.

Further ahead and we’ll see continuing offshore conditions as the W’ly belt rides high and strafes the temperate region with winds we normally see in later winter (August typically).

In short, looks like our very quiet start to winter continues.

Check back Mon for the latest and have a great weekend!
