Best Days: Tomorrow onwards

This week and next week (Oct 16 - 23)

The surf is really slowing down into today, but we've got plenty of fun waves on the cards for the coming period.

Firstly tomorrow, a new long-range and very inconsistent SW groundswell is due to arrive later in the day, peaking overnight and easing Saturday. Before this though, a lift in pre-cursor SW groundswell is due tomorrow morning, with infrequent 4-6ft sets across exposed breaks. The long-range groundswell should kick late in the day, with exposed breaks kicking to 6ft with the chance of the odd 8ft bomb, easing from a similar size Saturday.

The swell should slowly taper off through Sunday and Monday morning, but a slight kick in new long-range S/SW groundswell through the day should halt this trend.

This S/SW swell is being generated by a a strong but late forming low (in our swell window) to the south-west of WA. A fetch of SW gales will be generated in our southern swell window, producing a good S/SW groundswell for Monday afternoon in the 4-5ft+ range across exposed breaks (smaller to the east), easing from 4-5ft Tuesday morning.

The secondary pulse of S/SW groundswell due into Wednesday is still on track, with a secondary low forming earlier in our swell window, aiming a fetch of gale to severe-gale S/SW winds towards us.

A strong S/SW groundswell will result, arriving very late Tuesday and peaking Wednesday morning to a good 6-8ft across exposed breaks, easing through the afternoon and further into the end of the week.

The trades are due to weaken over the coming days, with variable breezes lasting longer through the mornings ahead of moderate trades into the afternoons.

Longer term a moderate sized and fun S/SW groundswell is expected later Friday, ahead of a peak Saturday. This will be generated by an expansive but relatively weak polar frontal progression, with only 6ft+ or so waves due across exposed breaks. Beyond this another similar pulse is likely Tuesday, but we'll review this in the next update.
