Today's fun increase in S'ly groundswell was generated by a strong frontal system pushing across us on Sunday and this system has since raced off towards New Zealand, with a rapid drop in size expected to have taken place this afternoon, leaving nothing tomorrow.

Steadily easing swells and freshening NW tending W’ly winds are expected on Wednesday, which should be primo for most of the open beaches in Northern NSW

Since late last week, model guidance has been rather honed in on a major Tasman Low developing off the South Coast early this weekend. It’s still holding true but right now it’s hard to have total confidence in the likely size and timing of the resulting swell.

Today's large pulse of SW groundswell is expected to peak this afternoon and ease gradually through tomorrow and further Wednesday. 

Wednesday is looking poor down South with a strong new SW swell but onshore S'ly wind in the wake of an early morning change, but the Mid is looking great with a new W/SW swell to 2-3ft from a front pushing through the Bight and favourable S/SE winds.

Tomorrow morning will be tiny across the coast and only worth a look around the western end of the Mornington Peninsula with a strengthening N/NW wind ahead of a late W'ly change.

On a day like this the surfers know that there will be consequences, but the flip side is they could also score the wave of a lifetime
