Drop in for a few drama-filled days at Nazare, featuring whistle clean paddle sessions, a hell of a swell jump, and then a brutal beatdown that fractures Jamie Mitchell's back.

Not doubting his ability or athleticism,
I’m aware of his ocean paddling background. However it appears to me Jamie copes more beatings/wipeouts than a lot of the other big wave surfers? Watched him at Jaws, Puerto and now Nazare. Is he doing something different?

there are a few crash test dummies..
Francis Porcella (remeber his one arm paddle int he lip at chopes?)
Andrew Cotton. (broken back/neck via whitewater bounce at Naz)...

I think though they charge hard, and often go the unmakeable which is recorded. sure they make heaps..

Impressive they got Day 2 pretty much to themselves. Where were all the tow ins rocking up on Day 2?

I reckon the ski caddying the surfer for safety and positioning to paddle in works well. Getting waves, The wave of injury, could a bigger board get him to the bottom? (he's no doubt on a big board). That wave was heavier than the others. He easily rode the others. Two crew paddling a line up of that size is keen. I wonder if they are ridding the same boards at other spots. Caught a fair few under paddling strength. Allot of broken bodies from Nazare. Is it consistent at such a high period? Crew are getting some big waves. Do you ride a more manoeuvrable board on the smaller waves ? Or a big board for survival of rouges? And the possibility of ? crew are looking more relaxed. How's the footage of paddling away from the ski into position. 3 guys out.

“19 second period so that means the waves have come from a long way away”.

Soz, but the Atlantic is the baby of the great oceans. Distance not really the prime factor.

What’s the longest ocean travel? Don’t know, but I’d be saying those big southern ocean storms that send swell from under South Africa to Indo.

Any takers to set me straight on either conjecture?

If I could turn up to Nazare, get towed out by my mate with his jet ski to the good, the big, the peak, chuck a long, long, long... carve like Jamie at the 12min mark and get back on land without the ugly... I would be good.

As always, really enjoy your work Mr Bonython. Especially in this clip the camera angle towards the action through the power poles and poeple atop there watching. Felt, nicely tour de France like. As in, all round human touch within moments of time. Partakers, spectators, nature. You have an amazing ability to capture such really stunning imagery. (Lucky bugger).
