Coolangatta’s D’Bah upset the experienced North Narrabeen team at last years Surftag Championships after North Narrabeen had won the three previous Titles.

Over the past seven years North Narrabeen have only been defeated twice going down to Norah Head in 2010 and D’Bah last year.

Five surfers will represent each Boardriding Club with North Narrabeen team captain Belinda Hardwick eager to compete against the D’Bah team, “We are super excited to be competing in Surftag again this year and are looking forward to claiming the title back from the D’Bah girls,” said Hardwick. “It’s rad the women will be included in all four events next year surfing alongside the men with our largest prize pool yet.”

D’Bah’s team will include two sets of twins, Audrey and Grace Styman-Lane and Brodie and Amiya Doyle. All four were in the victorious D’Bah team last year with Jade Wheatley joining the team this weekend. “My sister Brodie and I are excited to head down to Sydney this weekend with the all girls team surfing for D’Bah Boardriders,” said Amiya. “Sydney has some fun beach breaks so I’m hanging out for some good waves.”

Ranked 99 on the WSL Qualifying Series North Shelly’s team captain Jess Grimwood is proud to be representing her local Boardriding Club, “I’m so excited to be involved with the Sailor Jerry Surftag, it’s amazing they have put up the prize money and support for the series,” said Grimwood. “It’s all about good vibes, team spirit and fast surfing. I’m so proud to be fighting for the Title with the North Shelly team and I am ready to show up and blow up against some of the World’s best girl teams.”

With Sailor Jerry being announced last month as the Naming Rights sponsor of Surftag in 2016 and 2017, the new sponsorship deal is a massive boost for Women’s Boardriding Clubs with all four Sailor Jerry Surftag events in 2017 including a Women’s Division for the first time. Qualifying events will be held at Cronulla, Newcastle and the Gold Coast with the Australian Championships to be held on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The 2017 Sailor Jerry Surftag will offer an unprecedented prize pool of $20,000 for the Women’s Division including a winner’s purse of $5,000. “With the increased number of Women joining Boardriding Clubs the time is right to expand the Women’s Division and pump up the prize money,” said Global Surftag Managing Director Steve Harrison. “North Narrabeen and D’Bah have developed a healthy rivalry so it will be good to watch the girls battle for the Title this Sunday.”

Sixteen Men’s teams will kick-off the action on Sunday at South Curl Curl Beach with the Women’s Final scheduled for 2.00pm and the Men’s Final at 3.00pm. The 2017 Sailor Jerry Surftag Launch Party will be held straight after the Men’s Final at the Hotel Steyne.
