Rippable waves on Day One at the Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys

Keramas, Bali/Indonesia (Saturday, May 2, 2015) -  A clean new swell appeared at Keramas river mouth on Bali's east coast this morning which was ideal for the opening rounds of the Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys.

All 16 Round 1 heats along with four Round 2 heats were completed in the high performance 2 to 3 feet surf which occasionally delivered good barrel rides.

Local Bali surfer Marlon Gerber was clearly the standout scoring two eight-point plus rides for the days highest two-wave heat tally of 16.50 defeating defending event champion Dede Suryana (IND) who also surfed well to advance to Round 2 in 2nd place behind Gerber.

"I have a good board for these types of conditions" said Gerber. " It's fantastic for all Indonesian surfers to compete in a World Surf League event here and gives us confidence knowing we belong in the high end competitive fields."

Ethan Ewing (AUS/Qld) was the best of the international surfers today, posting an excellent 8.5 for a comprehensive Round 1 victory.

The 17-year-old is highly ranked on the Australasian Pro Junior Circuit this year and is competing here for the experience.

"It's a great performance wave and I'm learning by facing up against the older surfers and getting a feel for surfing at QS level - so far so good and I'm looking forward to the high seeded rounds tomorrow" said Ewing.

Jay Davies (AUS) recently stormed to a high placed result  at the Margaret River Championship Tour (CT) event and in a later heat in wind affected and smaller surf Davies showed his class by over powering the waves with some big impressive moves to easily win through to Round 3.

The event will begin early tomorrow, right on day-break around 6:15am to try and capitalise on the excellent forecast early waves.

Taj Burrow is the number one seed here and he'll surf in the fourth heat of the morning which is highly anticipated by everyone poolside at the event.

This year marks the second annual Komune Bali Pro which is dual sanctioned by the World Surf League as a  Qualifying Series 1000 (QS1000) and the Asian Surfing Championship Tour event.
