It’s going to be a demanding weekend for three North Narrabeen surf stars hoping to write both their boardriding club and themselves into the history books at two separate events.

Cooper Chapman, Jordy Lawler and Jackson Carey will line up for their North Narrabeen Boardriders Club at the Jim Beam Surftag on Saturday morning as they push for a sixth national title.

Then merely 13 kilometres south they’ll surf for their careers in the opening rounds of the Australian Open of Surfing in front of thousands of onlookers.

“A contest as big as the Australian Open can make or break for your career,” said 18-year-old Jordy Lawler. “Having a comp this big at Manly is an amazing thing for surfing…but there’s nothing like the pressure of surfing for your club.”

“Your best mates are all watching and they’re expecting results and a win can bring the club together like nothing else.”

The 2013 Australian Champions will have their stars on show in the Jim Beam Surftag with Davey Cathels, Chris Enever, Chris Davidson, Nathan Webster and Nathan Hedge also competing in the two-day event to be held at their local break.

And Cooper Chapman, 18, believes it’s the ideal way to start the weekend that could change his life forever.

“Surfing in the Jim Beam in the morning is the best way to warm up and get rid of the nerves,” he said. “Surfing at home with all the team is the most comfortable I ever feel.”

Chapman’s been in career-best form of late after solid results in Hawaii and he’ll be leading the local contingent surfing for a victory at Manly.

“I’m feeling really good for the Aus Open but they are two very different comps. Because the club won last year we’ll have a bit of pressure to back it up at Narrabeen but I’ll be surfing for myself at Manly and my boards have been feeling great.”
