Recently back from Japan. Seems like the majority of people still wear masks in crowded areas and on public transport. We did the same, seemed to be the respectful thing to do.

As Frog states, prolonged dust exposure of all types is potentially dangerous to your health.
Asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis etc, cause scarring to the lung parenchyma (the thin layer of cells than line the lung alveoli). The alveoli are the tiny air sacs within the lungs which enable gas exchange. That is, O2 in to the pulmonary vasculature which is then transported via blood to your tissues and CO2 out (which is then exhaled) all facilitated via a concentration gradient.
The scarring caused by dust exposure significantly impedes gas exchange with associated increased work of breathing, decreased exercise tolerance and high susceptiblity to chest infections.
This cohort of patients generally present to hospital in the winter months (but not exclusively) with superimposed respiratory infections exhibiting severe shortness of breath, acute desaturation and anxiety +++++. Their lung conditions are progressive and irreversible.

Interestingly, as with smokers, these patients have a different mechanism to mediate respiratory drive (ie the urge/need to breath). It is no longer facilitated by increasing CO2 levels (as with healthy lungs)in the CSF(cerebral spinal fluid), but by decreasing O2 levels and via different chemoreceptors.
Without going into too much detail the low oxygen causes the patient to breathe not rising CO2.

So protect yourself from dust exposure and wear appropriate PPE.

Also for all you anti-maskers zealots:
1. Masks in the community were ALWAYS about protecting other people from you, not vice versa.
2. Still have 30 COVID patients taking up acute beds in the hospital where I work
3. If you're so sure that masks don't work, go to your local hospital, into a COVID ward take your mask off and take a couple of big deep breaths...

The masks we were told to use (N95 etc) are designed and worn to maintain an aseptic environment during surgery. To keep germs out of open wounds. They do not protect the wearer against dust, smoke, any virus.

And ease up on the ad hominem crap.

You've got a pretty screwed up version of normal there Burla.

A selfish, dumb ego driven one as a matter of fact.

Still so obsessed with rock solid beliefs about things you know nothing about (taught to you by all round idiots such as Malcolm Roberts, or instagram f'wits like The Primod) and clearly full of a baseless sense of superiority.

All the while maintaining a blind spot to san Guine's no.1 item on his list - mask are not about you and how tough/weak you are, they're about limiting spread of disease.

We've got hospitals full of highly intelligent, caring, hardworking individuals who've seen things most of us normal crew couldn't even fathom - all continuing to wearing masks. Yet - in walk's tone deaf Burleigh, the local gym owner/superfood smoothie slinger - full of confidence and ignorance. Thinking he knows best about masks and covid.

p.s. IB not sure if that was directed at me - either way - did you actually see what burleigh wrote? Nearly 30 pages in to this thread and what was it, like 400 in the last dead thread - and we've still good Burls flying the flag (red ensign maybe?) for the 'pretty much gone by now' freedumb brigade. Both your views and Burleighs views have been extreme opposites through Covid and both kind of extreme,

Most of us probably sided more with your views during Covid, but i think post Covid with the beauty of what we now know, i think most of our views have now swung to somewhere halfway between yours and Burleigh's views.

Holding onto the views you had during Covid to me is as silly as having the views Burleigh had during Covid, your just being completely idealistic and not udapting your views based on current information.

Personally a Covid ward is probably about the only place id now think, what the hell this mask probably doesn't do much, but its a Covid ward, i will throw it on anyway.

I remember seeing a documentary about masks where they coughed and sneezed into petri dishes with and without masks. The dishes without masks were bursting with bacteria cultures whereas the others were almost clean. If someone sneezed or coughed in my face, I know what I would prefer.

Nah - my views have changed, but instead of using 20/20 hindsight and poking holes in everything we did wrong, I'm more of the opinion that overall we acted reasonable given the evolving information and the potential threat.

In this case it's always better to do too much, and seem to be overreacting, than to do too little.

You should do a bit of 'research' into the chances of dying/needing hospitalisation from all sorts of things Burleigh.

They're all very, very low.

But, it still happens....you know, there's heaps of people in the world, and even with very low percentages, can still means lots of deaths/illness/injuries. Amazing right?

The intro was a bit rich then only lasted 5 minutes, to be fair a lot of people Joe has had on that have said controversial things have been extremely experienced in their fields but yeah some of the things they have said have also been kinda out there, some aspects still BS but other aspects have been proven true or become more accepted, some aspects are still up for debate.

I don't swallow everything Bret Weinstein says, actually i question a lot of what he says, but he still has a background as a professor of evolutionary biology and he was one of if not the first to really stand behind the idea of the lab leak theory that has now become widely accepted to be the most likely source of covid.

Now imagine if these people pushing the lab leak theory and investigating it further were totally silenced and we were just told we must believe it came from a wet market and not question things, and we still all believed that, I dont think that would be good at all (im sure the Chinese communist party would though)

Also many aspects that both media and even governments and the WHO & Fauci were saying during Covid have now been proven to be untrue like Covid vaccines prevent transmission, places like ABC and government were even still pushing this idea long after it was clearly not true.

And for the most part these miss truths were just totally forgotten.

Anyway Joe is just just a host and another guy i dig him but I dont always believe or share his views or his guest views, but IMHO the most important thing is ideas from these people can be freely expressed and debated rather than just written off or censored.

DR. FAUCI: And you know, JOHN, you said it very well. I could have said it better. It's absolutely the case. And that's the reason why we say when you get vaccinated, you not only protect your own health, that of the family, but also you contribute to the community health by preventing the spread of the virus throughout the community. And in other words, you become a dead end to the virus. And when there are a lot of dead ends around, the virus is not going to go anywhere. And that's when you get a point that you have a markedly diminished rate of infection in the community. And that's exactly the reason, and you said it very well, of why we encourage people and want people to get vaccinated. The more people you get vaccinated, the safer the entire community is. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/transcript-dr-anthony-fauci-face-the-nation.... So it would be great to see the hair bear or the dog licker do a video on fauci the cdc and all the media that promoted lies that had no scientific evidence but somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen .

Science is slowly turning into some mystical demigod that no one is allowed to question. If you question it, or seek further explanations, you are running a risk of being placed into anti society bucket. Good luck with that approach, all it does is split people into 2 very opposing groups. Nothing good comes out of it.

Feds mandate 100% ship shape Vax compliant Crew & all round Vax recommendation for Passengers

How to explain this...Most tiny Islands have no Ports so require Tenders (Piloted Small local Crew)
Notably at Far Flung outcrops these Local seafarers pretty near gotta surf seas from cruise to shore.
On shore Shack / Supplies often run by same seaside family engaging all Passengers.
Natural increase of Covid amongst isolated seafaring families tendering Cruises to 100's of tiny islands.

But this may represent lower % of population...Stats show those engaging with Cruise VIPs test [+]
Islanders & Passengers are mostly Fully Vaxed but still infect most Port entries.
Make no mistake that Cruises are still spreading Disease to Pacific Islands as Capt Cook & all as always.

However, emerging evidence suggests that the reported increase in IgG4 levels detected after repeated vaccination with the mRNA vaccines may not be a protective mechanism; rather, it constitutes an immune tolerance mechanism to the spike protein that could promote unopposed SARS-CoV2 infection and replication by suppressing natural antiviral responses. Increased IgG4 synthesis due to repeated mRNA vaccination with high antigen concentrations may also cause autoimmune diseases, and promote cancer growth and autoimmune myocarditis in susceptible individuals. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37243095/ …. Professor Petrovsky raised concerns about this in the video I posted a month ago . Worth a watch, long but very informative.
