The round ball game

Indeed @flollo.

btw when i said 'nup i'm out',...im glad i stuck it out.
I'm the worst kind of supporter! hehe

Socceroos are easy to beat, you just press them hard and high. They’re terrible on the ball and lack a real press resistant playmaker. The last good player on the ball I remember is Mark Bresciano. Their game is at least 20 years behind modern day football.

Fark i was just thinking of Marco Bresciano @flollo as the key player that made a difference in the socceroos. He was my favourite. That goal was world cup standard and world cup standard players stood up in that key moment.

A lot of it is a result of slow domestic football. A league game usually has 300-400 passes per team. Japan had 640 today. Their only mistake was being wasteful in the final third. And then they got punished for it.

Bresciano was the Andrew Mcleod of soccer.

Why do you reckon that is @flollo? Overinflated egos on the domestic stage as the game's jumped in popularity in recent years? Can understand as a nation that's so far away from the world stage that they'd start to feel like legends in their own lunchboxes.

There is a bit of that, for sure. And classic Aussie nepotism, not employing many overseas coaches. We need more good coaches on youth level, and we need to give them consistency. You can't change the coach every year, and you can't have random parents doing coaching if you want to be serious about it.
Another big problem is the lack of training. Most clubs will do 1 or if you're lucky 2 training sessions per week. And that is a 1h session. And it's only done during the season, which is around 5 months long. Compare that to Europe where kids train 5 times a week, sometimes twice per day, and they do it for more or less 10 months a year, and you can easily see why you can't catch up.
I'm coaching U11s this year, and I had to beg to get a 2nd time slot for training. I didn't get the pitch assigned in the end, but I'm doing it anyway, kinda unofficially. I find a bit of grass on a side somewhere, it's good enough. Then you have bad weather to manage. Infrastructure is not there, everything gets cancelled (games, training sessions..) with wet weather. I try to do indoor theory with the boys, and I even book indoor courts with my own money, but this is all my initiative, no one else is doing this.
The results are clear, we won every single game this season, and we score 5-6 goals per game on average. But none of this is a result of some good system, it's just me being enthusiastic about kids and their development. It's remarkable how kids develop when someone shows faith in them. And there is no money in any of this, this is just me doing it as a volunteer. I also had to buy goals, cones, bibs, and all sorts of other gear from my own pocket.
So yeah, you can't go to the next level with this system. We need more proper coaches, we need more games (30+ per season at least), we need more training and better grassroot infrastructure. And your own philosphy that everyone follows. How do we want to play? Spain has its style they nourished for generations. Everyone trains towards it. As one player retires a young one is good to go and understands the system. Australia still has to define that. We are still booting long balls and trying to score on muscles which is a legacy of old school english system. This needs to change.

Thanks for the intel @flollo.
I'd be keen to put you up for socceroos coach!
Funny that the comparison with the Tillys is even starker based on your analysis.
The beauty of being a burgeoning new kid on the block i guess.
Or is it something deeper than that....cultural....gender.
Keep up your legendary work mate. That's so rad to hear.

FAIRY TALES do happen!
Comprehensively outplayed in first half, second half outplayed again but not as bad.
THEN, the chance that can occur was TAKEN!
i'm not a fan of Behich, Ive seen him make mistakes that(imo) have caused us to lose,HOWEVER,tonight he delivered from his weaker foot!Ofcourse, Riley McGree made the goal. What a great turn and cutback!!!!
SO, 6 points clear with q huge GD advantage...IF, Saudi drop a point or 3 in a couple of hours we are qualified.
Next game, paramount Plus 3/45 Wednesday morning in Jeddah....I'll expect ten defenders in the Socceroos!

great work flollo ,

The Saudis had a 2-0 win, so for them to qualify directly and tip Australia out of 2nd place in the group, it will require a NINE GOAL margin on Wednesday morning.

That was a sick goal!

Ange IMPOSTER NO CLUE has been SACKED!
Winner of a string of Mickey Mouse trophies can fall back to his experience as a bank teller.
Part of his departure package is the cab fare to Tamworth(UK), they have a job for him in the local bank.

Socceroos have OFFICIALLY qualified for the WorldCup
A 2-1 away win in Jeddah kicked off 9pm local time at 33degrees celsius ...It isnt called SAUNA Arabia for nothing btw!
MattRyans 100th cap(he saved a penalty late in game) takes him to third highest for NT appearances.

Bit harsh. You don't reckon the last trophy he won was a bit more than an imposter trophy?

AW, his trophies come from WEAK competitions when he has the BEST players....ANY decent coach can win under those circumstances...
NOW, lets look at his results in HIGH LEVEL competitions.
7 years as national youth coach u/17s and U/20s...So was involved in 4 campaigns to qualify for those respective WCs...DIDNT qualify for ONE!...none out of 4!...When quizzed about why he said"we are up against good players",virtually saying that the Aussies were not good enough.I'm sure if you went through those squads back then you would find some players who have had reasonably good careers.
WORST coach of Socceroos to this date at a WC(Brazil)...NO POINTS from 3 games..MINUS SIX goal difference...This record could stand forever!
DIDNT win a game for brisBane in Asia CL...
DIDNT win a game for Celtic in European CL
AND NOW, the worst Spurs manager of all time(over 120 year history) averaging 1 point per game in the just concluded EPL.Its a lower average points than the year TH were relegated and would have been a relegation score IF not for the fact that the 3 teams who were promoted were AWFUL.Forty points is generally regarded as safe in EPL, TH didnt reach that.ANGE holds the TH record for most defeats in an EPL season...22, the most home defeats in EPL season 10.
Bit harsh, wasn't I !

AW, nothing personal against Ange except for the fact after qualifying for Russian WC, he just took the Japan (Yokohama) job offer and left us with a WC looming...What a great patriotic Aussie MATE!
I look at the game from a technical viewpoint, his is an idealogical coaching system that in theory is wonderful,BUT only if the best players are at your disposal. He didnt have them at TH.Managed to get 5th in his first season after being first early on, Thats where they were b4 Conte was sacked(classic rant on YT)
This season past proved that his recruitment fell short and his tactics too.He couldnt manage Europa(4th tier) and EPL(first tier) campaigns at the same time.He chose(he said it after the cup win) to concentrate on the weaker competition...my old mate Sid Tanner(Scotsman official in StGeorge Assn in Sydney RIP) always said, its better to come last in A grade than first in B grade because you are playing at the highest level!
SPURSYS supporters were over the moon at winning a 4th tier comp,I dont see any glory there due to the fact EPL(1),,FA cup(2) EFL cup(3) are all higher standard comps. However, T Hots fans hadn't won anything for 17 years and that was "only" a EFL cup(2008)....In 1990/91 season they won FA cup which is a very credible trophy....it's THE domestic cup to win, EFL is a ? mark comp for many of the bigger teams who are trying to win in Champions league and PremierLeague.
Craig Forster is a good football man, he was justified in calling Ange out back in the youth team phase of Anges coaching journey.Ange FAILED, and after the last failure didnt have his contract renewed.Thats history, they are on good terms after meeting when Ange bought either Celtic or Spurs to Australia for preSeason games.
Tottenham haven't yet announced their new manager but ThomasFrank of Brentford seems a hot favourite.Word is he wants to bring ALL his coaching staff(Spurs have sacked Anges staff) and the fact of gutting Brentford has to be compen$ated for.
The BIG picture....TH are reputed to be 7th or 8th richest club in the WORLD, 17th isnt their correct place when they have a reasonably talented squad....When Ange got the job, I said that I didnt think he had the ability at that level, say no more.
Read my book....Fifth to 17th incorporating a MickeyMouse trophy!..lol

You’re heavily invested in something that you are very passionate about, very worthy.Wasn’t Ange’s plans derailed because of all those primary injuries?
I’d be interested in your viewpoint. Thanks AW.
AW, the injuries stem from the training methods and playing style.
There was a graph showing the running and movement of all the EPL teams,Spurs were out on there own by a country mile for movement in their games...Consequently the more running the more strain on a human body. In a publication "the Scotsman"it details the injuries at Celtic https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/no-compromises-celtic-bos...
From The scotsman 12/12/2021
At one stage in the season just concluded, in the whole 20 team comp,Spurs had 40% of the hamstring injuries.
ANGE caused the injuries and Yes of course they had an effect on team results.
Another important factor(and its only my opinion) was in recruitment. On finishing 5th after season 1 and qualifying for the Europa,it was my opinion(and lots of others in the TH fanbase) that 5 seasoned pros with EPL experience come in for 24/25 EPL season.Only Dominic Solanke fitted that criteria, the rest of the new players bought in were inexperienced youngsters.Injuries AND inexperience are 2 of the problems.
ALSO, Anges stubborness about playing HIS style was worked out by many opposition coaches.By midway through the first season Everyone playing TH knew their weaknesses and plenty used that knowledge to win.
Ange signed a 4 year contract at 5 million quid a season to leave Celtic(2miliion a season)So he got 10 million plus he got 2 million for winning Europa and his severance package was around half pay for the final 2 years that he doesnt have to do the job..Thats not bad for a guy who holds some WORST records in his career(I believe I pointed those out)
I hope this answer provides a bit more info for you to consider.
Thanks for being interested AW.
Probably not big with the SN crew, but this guy is the real deal. With UK 1.5 Billion pounds on the pitch (Liverpool v City, great game also) he totally shone
