Northern NSW and South East Queensland Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 30th December)

Best Days: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday mornings at south swell magnets, Monday morning

Recap

A small S/SE swell came in at 1-2ft across the North Coast Saturday with tiny waves on the Goldy. The swell faded into Sunday leaving tiny waves across both regions under strengthening N/NE winds head of a late S'ly change.

The weekend started off poor with a tiny 1-1.5ft of swell and light N/NE sea breezes that strengthened from the NE as the day progressed.

Christmas Day offered great waves across the state with a new SW groundswell and offshore winds. Yesterday winds were more S'ly with the swell dropping slightly while today we've got a smaller swell and onshore winds.

Tiny waves continued across the coast yesterday, and the same can be said for today.

This weekend onwards (Dec 28 onwards)

Tomorrow will be average with only a small and weak increase in NE windswell expected later in the day.

Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 27th December)

Best Days: Sunday morning, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Recap

Wednesday's swell backed off into yesterday with calm winds at dawn ahead of a shallow change.

Today a new W/SW swell has filled in offering inconsistent 1-2ft waves with a light offshore wind. A fresh S/SE change has since moved through creating poor conditions.

South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 27th December)

Best Days: Early Saturday morning down South, Sunday on the Mid, Tuesday and Wednesday down South

Recap

Wednesday's increase in S/SW groundswell backed off through yesterday and conditions were poor down South with an onshore change moving in overnight. The Mid Coast saw more favourable S/SE winds as a new SW groundswell arrived into the afternoon, offering 1ft waves across the coast.

Best Days: Saturday morning, Monday and Tuesday mornings west of Melbourne, Wednesday in both regions

Wednesday's pulse of SW groundswell held into Thursday morning under early light N'ly winds before a fresh to strong S/SW change moved through during the day.

This change has lingered into today creating poor conditions but a new W/SW swell has also filled in offering plenty of waves across the state.

Recap

The E'ly swell continued at an inconsistent 1ft to occasionally 2ft across SE Qld, while the North Coast saw small levels of S/SE swell to 2ft at south swell magnets.

Today both swells have backed away with a small SE swell failing to really top 1-2ft across the North Coast.

A weak surface trough deepened directly east of us yesterday, kicking up a moderate increase in E/SE swell that reached 2-3ft during the afternoon across open beaches. Conditions improved as well as fresh morning S'ly winds eased during the day.

Merry Christmas from the Swellnet team! Small to tiny levels of NE windswell persisted yesterday, while today the swell is back to a tiny 0.5-1ft.

This week (Dec 26 - 27)

The end of the week will see more of the same tiny NE windswell building across the coast tomorrow and easing through Friday.
