Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 27th December)

Best Days: Sunday morning, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Recap

Wednesday's swell backed off into yesterday with calm winds at dawn ahead of a shallow change.

Today a new W/SW swell has filled in offering inconsistent 1-2ft waves with a light offshore wind. A fresh S/SE change has since moved through creating poor conditions.

This weekend onwards (Dec 28 onwards)

Today's swell will fade into tomorrow leaving tiny waves across the coast, but come Sunday a strong new W/SW groundswell should fill in.

This is related to a cold front drifting in from the west deepening and forming a low pressure centre right off our door step, generating a fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds in our swell window (pictured right).

This should kick up a solid 3ft+ of W/SW swell Sunday, peaking later in the day and then easing from 3-4ft Monday morning out of the SW.

Winds on Sunday will be fresh from the W tending W/SW, with Monday seeing great W/NW winds all day.

The swell should ease slowly Tuesday as the low starts to weaken and heads off to the east.

The rest of the week will consistent of smaller levels of W/SW swell, probably not topping 1-2ft.
